Yep.The end of The Searchers always brings a lump to my throat.
So does the end of Saving Private Ryan.
And I can't watch "Ghost" because at the end when Patrick Swayze comes back from the dead and tells Demi Moore "I Love You Molly."and Whoopi says "Sam,It's Time." makes me bawl like a spanked Irish Catholic Schoolgirl!!!

There were quite a few family ties in "The Searchers":
#1-Natalie Woods sister Lana played the young Debbie Edward's.
#2-John Wayne's son Patrick played the young cavalry lieutenant.
#3-Harry Carey Jr.'s mother Olive Carey also played his mother in "The Searchers".
#4-Ken Curtis was John Ford's son in law.
Finally,The Duke's youngest son Ethan was named after his character Ethan Edwards.

The scene with the Indians on one side and then the other at about 1:50 in the video comes straight from Roman history and Emperor Julian the Apostate. He was in exactly the same situation when he withdrew from Persia with Persian soldiers on the heights looking down on him from both sides before being killed in battle.
If you want a great book about Julian read Gods and Legions by Michael Curtis Ford or go straight to Ammianus Marcellinus in Loeb's Classics. He was an actual roman soldier, probably a Centurian, who fought with Julian in Persia.

A couple of really good books about the life of John Ford are "Company of Heroes-Myi Life As An Actor in The John Ford Stock Company" by Harry Carey?Jr.
Harry "Dobe"Carey Jr.-1921-2009- was the last living member of the John Ford Stock Company.
In his book he talks about his lifelong friendships with John Ford and John Wayne as well as his WW2 service in the Navy among other things.
"Pappy-The Life and Career of John Ford" by Dan Ford.
Dan Ford talks about his famous grandfather and his life and career making such great films as The Searchers and Two Rode Together and his WW2 Navy service.
If you can't find the. In a book store try getting it through internet library loan at your local library.

Shane is the best western ever made, not this. Nearly every John Wayne movie is saturated with corniness and an unrealistic ideal of what the old west was like. One scene from Shane that stuck with me was when Joe Starrett and the cattle baron Rufus Ryker were talking. Ryker argued his generation made the land hospitable for the white settlers giving him the right to dictate who owned it. Joe accurately pointed out the Indians and trappers were there long before and tamed the land more than Rykers generation. You could say Ryker symbolized John Wayne and his false ideals of the west, Starrett destroyed the myth.

quite good but cant compete with "unforgiven", where humans act like humans and not stiff 1950ies hollywood characters.

In my opinion there still hasn’t been a movie that has shown the full brutality and evil of what the Native Americans did to The women and children of the white race. This movie is the closest one.

Actors in the 1950s were so clearly “acting.” Nothing authentic about the people they portray. The only people pointing to this as a great movie are the people who let nostalgia cloud their judgement.

It objectively is actors in movies today are a joke they don’t even try to portray a character accurately the only thing that is remotely appealing is the special effects and GCI

    • @jonazo7188
      @jonazo7188 5 วันที่ผ่านมา

There’s more to acting than being completely naturalistic. In older movies actors often convey emotion in a larger-than-life way. It’s not all about tricking you into thinking it’s someone you could actually run into on the street. These are legendary, archetypal characters. They convey something about the human condition that goes beyond what you can find in the everyday.

@@jonazo7188 Yes and that’s the problem with movies today, they don’t convey a larger than life message and the main draw is having cool special effects whereas older movies didn’t have the advantage of technology and had to be appealing with having a story and characters that made you personally invested in it.

John Wayne never that great of an actor everybody says how great this movie is Jimmy Stewart westerns were just as good or even better the man from lemarie Winchester 73 Broken Arrow just as good as this movie and Jimmy Stewart shows better range and acting ability then John Wayne way more convincing Robert Mitchum definitely would have done the Searchers better than John Wayne they even say Elvis Presley couldn't Act so not true the Western flaming star one of the few dramatic Parts Elvis got Elvis shows true dramatic depth and range more so than John Wayne in any of his movies so John Wayne was not as great as people think or he was made out to be the scripts he received was Way Beyond his talents things need to be broken down to a t sometime and things go deeper than the how people see and receive specially in the movie industry

@@hl6087 'Once upon a time in the west' is by far the best western ever made. And Henry Fonda in 'my darling clementine' gives one of the best performances of all time. The film is not my favourite, but Fonda is mesmerising, a complete enigma, you never know what's going on. Is he afraid or not at all, is he feeling pity, is he angry or is he laughing inside? Could be anything. Unbelievably good. There's a kind of democratic spirit in such suggestive acting, like he believes in his audience and hands it over for them to make up their own minds, instead of force-feeding us like ducks.
