Admittedly, nemona's probably the first "buddy" rival I've been fine with since May. Probably because she's not trying to compete against you, she's already done with her journey, and is just encouraging you to get there yourself. That's kinda what I prefer with the friendly rivals. They dont work well as direct gym competition, but better as alternate rivals (like May or Bianca going for pokedex completion, or Nemona already being a high rank and encouraging others to get to that point)
Agree completely, she's not just super friendly for friendliness sake, she wants to battle at her peak and she wants you to get on her level so you can do that with her, it makes her enthusiasm seem genuine
Honestly I just hope they let the devs take more time to really finish the game, instead of forcing them to crunch & having the games release feeling kinda empty/ unpolished
It’s Pokémon - the biggest brand in the world. They could release a demo priced for the full game and it would still move 5 million units. The games drive the series so they are gonna be pushed with the bear minimum. I sound pessimistic but I just really disappointed in SV.
But if they release a finished, complete game, they can't staple together a more satisfying package post-launch through paid DLC. Which means it's probably never going to happen.
This whole BS about the "devs" wanting to make it polished and the big bad company forcing them to release it shows how little awareness people have of how this company works.
I always felt that instead of a stupid hat, the ground around the Pokémon should change instead to signify the type, like grass getting flowers or rock having spikes shoot out of the ground.
@@sinteleon actually, water battles would allow for much more creativity. for example: grass could put lily pads everywhere, fire could make fireballs that float around the tera pokemon, etc.

@@GhostEmblem A reminder that Sw/Sh was objectively a step backwards in terms of the games. Not only were the games lacking some expected content, the content we were given was lackluster, at best. Everything "new" in Sw/Sh was something already done in a previous game, with less effort, but more "impressive visuals", arguably... Sun and moon were also significantly shorter/smaller than the previous gen, with more flare. Not saying that you can't have fun with any of the recent games, but the games have steadily been losing content, as well as polish. Heck, the fact that there are always "multiple versions" that are almost identical, BOTH with 60$ price tags, has always been scummy.

Sun and Moon started the concept of trying something diferent from gyms and ppl liked it.(There is no defending Ultra games in my opinion although I enjoyed the Necrozma fight and Ultra Wormholes the game should have just been a small dlc) Sw Sh introduced a open world concept, raid/multiplayer concept and a more competitively geared game they were poorly executed but it opened a big door. (Also introduced Dlc content which in my opinion the first one wasnt really worth it) Legends was the semi exploration of open world and a change in story/ same paths. Finally Scarlet n Violet even tho it could be better it explores and puts into practice all the previous points I mentioned can you say its a perfect game? No but atleast there is progress in my opinion. It is true that we need something to make that great push where they put more effort into the games but I think it's atleast fair to remain in that neutral stance of the game has serious issues but its a step forward.

Apparently I also recently found out that the lagginess only gets worse if you play for too long. You have to save, close the game, and then reopen it and the lag goes away for a couple hours. I think they said it's something to do with the big city center

@@adaphion Restrictive release schedules to keep that money flow going. Pokemon didn't become the highest grossing media franchise without sacrifices. Sacrifices that really shouldn't be made anymore, yet here we are. I just hope that they have a big enough library of reanimated models and all to focus on optimization in the next one. If the signs from Legends hold true, they are actually using a dedicated engine for BOTH! and more experience and a greater asset pool can only help straightening out the problems. Prior Pokemon games were always made from the ground up, without much of a consistent architecture beneath them. Hopefully not anymore though. Even if they leaned too heavily on the Pokemon in this title. Which is fair, that's what the entire Franchise is built upon. But longer in the oven would have helped greatly.

This is literally the first Pokemon game where I ever actually ran into the "Gym badges let you use higher level wild pokemon," so I kinda have to give it points for that. Also the open-world design without content scaling hurts your choice, I got all the way up the right side of the map (to the Ice gym) and then had to slog through the other side to get past the level locking
Yeah, I had difficulty with that too. I wanted to get a Baxcalibur but wanted all my Team Members early on, and spent nearly 2 HOURS looking around the mountainous area looking for a Frigibax... that wouldn't listen to me.
That's because the gym badges never let you use higher level wild pokemon before PLA, they only let you use higher level **traded** pokemon. Hence the "even Pokemon you obtain from trades!" portion of the explanation. Any mons you caught yourself would listen to you regardless of your gym badges or their level.
I think they were going to adjust levels but just didn't given how well recieved legends arceus was for being able to encounter stupidly powerful Pokémon.

You know, it’s weird. My opinions on recent Pokémon games have literally been: “This is… not that great, but it’s a good stepping stone, and I’m glad to see how they improve in the future!” Again. And again. And again. I’m hoping this doesn’t continue.
Incremental improvement is better than none. The release cycle for Pokémon does hurt them in my opinion. That said the fact they improve at the rate they do despite it is impressive on it’s own. You can actually see how they’re pulling it off and most don’t even realize it. The “it’s a step in the right direction” bit is on purpose because they’re improving future mechanics 2 gens in advance. Sword and Shield had the Wild area, Legends was the advancement of the Wild area while trying a pseudo-open world, this game is an Open World with some tweaks to mechanics from Legends. I’m willing to bet the next game is going to work on the frame rate and pop in at worst by next gen (although that’s probably going to be fixed this one) and rework some of the Legends mechanics back in since they hit gold with that. TLDR: every game is a closet beta test for something they didn’t have time to fully make.
@@Broomer52 I mean, the frame rate is probably gonna get patched if that’s your main sticking point. It was the same thing for BOTW. It had bad frame rate on launch but it was improved later in patches

The glowing stakes are related to the 4 Legendary "Beasts of Ruin" (respectively), and you need to location and remove 8 coordinating glowing stakes for each one before you can battle/capture them. Each one has a secondary type of Dark, and their respective descriptions are equally dark and depressing. Passing the Academy Classes nets you with background on each Teacher and either good items, a Pokemon, or a side-quest to complete later.
5:44 for those wondering what these are , theres 4 sets of different colors with 8 stakes in each set. If you find a complete set it unlocks the corresponding colors vault, if you interact with that colored vault after getting all 8 stakes you get an encounter with 1 of 4 of the new legendaries that aren't on the box.
Honestly I like the terastallizing idea. It doesn’t make the Pokémon overpowered or too strong. It could give an advantage but it could also backfire. But yeah the hats are kinda goofy
I look on with horror after hearing Namona say that she has been waiting for me after spending a unholy amount of time(days in game but a couple hours irl) pulling stakes out of the ground in that gym lobby. I just want to sit down and clutch my wooper tightly.

@@bwacky4096 okay but you still lose the secondary typing's weakness. There were times that I would forget a Pokémon is going to terastalize and try to use a move super effective on the second type and it wouldn't work, and vice versa.
Exactly. People say "She's easy, she got the starter weak to yours" until they have to deal with a Quaquaval that Air Slashes your Meowscarada into oblivion but nothing else on the team can hit it cause it's sitting at +4 Speed from spamming Aqua Step.
Open world doesn’t automatically make things good no, but it’s been quite nice for pokemon, since discovering all of the new pokemon and the secrets of the world is a big draw for many

I feel like the character model style for sword and shield looked better Cell shaded visuals just work better for pokemon imo To add it to this open world style something like botw/genshin would work well where the world looks more painted with smoother lighting and the characters being cell shaded but matching the world’s colors and lighting to not stick out
Yeah, I only just started playing Shield a few weeks ago, and I really love the lighting on the models, the color palettes, and the character designs. The flat, washed out colors and uninspired designs of the two newer games really bewilder me... How did SwSh have such vibrant, well lit models and Arceus and SV end up so bland???
The characters models is Sw/Sh I think look good but I couldn’t stand the Pokémon in the games style. They all looked like models made from plastic and rubber.
I always laugh at how people have no idea what the swords are. If you actually go and do all of the classes and take the exams you'll have notifications to meet up with the teachers and get to know them a little bit more when you get to know the teacher for history Raifort, she explains what the swords are for and what they do. She even puts locations on your map for the end goal of each sword color. SPOILERS . . . . If you take the History Classes in the Academy, you can then start befriending your teacher, Raifort. She will tell you the story of the Treasures of Ruin and how they were brought over from other regions in the past but then locked away in four shrines across Paldea. She will add the shrines to your map and explain that the stakes are there to keep the treasures sealed away. She states that the stakes that unlock the shrine can all be found near the shrine. With that done, go out and catch Wo-Chien, Chien-Pao, Ting-Lu and Chi-Yu! Once you’ve caught all four, return to Raifort to learn some more about the Pokémon and receive your final reward.
In fairness even if you do the classes you can find the stairs really early (like before you even get to the school early) and on top of that history isn’t unlocked immediately
You can use Miraidon and Koraidon for the olive roll test if you like. It'd make things much easier by flinging it across. I love how past legendaries like Dialga's like "I am the God of Time" and Palkia "And I, of Space" while Koraidon and Miraidon are like *"Sandwich, take it or leave it."* Don't be dissing my boy Larry. He may not say much, but to me, his words mean so much more that way. I enjoy the Gym Leaders in this game, from a Ghost-type rapper to a chef who encourages gambling. They're all special in their own ways. Especially Larry because he's just a mood. For Team Star, I wouldn't call them troublemakers once you understand why they are the way they are. They aren't the bullies, THEY were bullied.
They did give Pikachu a little extra love in the Language classes. And personally, the classes are not necessary but they are so charming and actually have a couple of decent rewards hidden in them.

Sun and moon had the best character customization hands down, being able to change even your throw style was cool, cause it let my character act like the smug jerk he was. Clothing being gone is sad but oh well, maybe in dlc.
"maybe in dlc", ya see, back in the day, when a company released a game, it was complete. You didn't need to purchase miscellaneous extra content for 0.99$, 5$, 15$, the game was just satisfying. If you made a sequel, you'd include basically everything you already had, and include new things; namely mechanics and plot. You'd take everything you already had (that was good) and innovate it, make it more enjoyable, show off your talents. ---- The new strategy, with games, shows, any kind of art; is drip feed content, do minimal effort, and gain maximum benefit. Cut 1/3 of the game out right before release, and then sell it back to the consumer as day one or month one DLC, that has "exactly what we wanted"... --- Point is, dlc is fine, and I'm willing to purchase something new and impressive; paying extra just for a complete experience, isn't right. A good example of scummy DLC is 'Asura's Wrath' years ago (excellent, but flawed). They split the game in half, with a "full story" to sell the game, but the actual other half was in a 30$ DLC that dropped immediately after release. To get the full experience (literally the other half of the plot), you're basically paying 90$ for the finished game. Back then, it was cause for outrage; now, it's expected. Just unfortunate really. Version differences being completely negated by a third version also didn't make much sense, yellow and crystal were unique games in their own right and had enough different content to justify their existence while emerald and on were just both games put together, with some very meh content added. Swsh may not be overwhelmingly liked but I do feel the dlc was a better call than another game.
@@ralcogaming7674 What I'm getting at, is there should only ever be one, singular version, with everything in it. No "better" or "alternate" versions. As it stands, fans regularly pay 120$ for the minor extra content of the different versions... Even if they just made one singular game, and changed for dlc, it would still be less scummy than it's always been with Pokémon. The fact that it's assumed there are always "two versions" highlights the problem. Just take the time to make one, singular, solid game. Obviously, that won't happen, as it takes 5% more work to make 2 versions, which in theory doubles the profits.

I know this might seem small but my biggest pet peeve with this game in the uniforms. Those orange pants clash with EVERYTHING. I really hope they release more clothing outside of that uniform
It's not a small issue given that it was an option in the previous games. The whole school uniform aspect never made sense once you were kicked out into the world.
I'm gonna wait for to hear more about this before picking it up. Pokemon has an issue where it seems to be improving, but does it so slowly that it always seems behind what people want from it. It also has a problem where it seems to be trying to both break and keep formulas at the same time, which kind of puts them in a middle ground that can't seem to fully satisfy either side.

I disagree about the humans. I LOVE the family dynamic of the Paldean Elite Four and how they root each other on. I also liked Arven's story and what getting the Herba Mystica meant to him. As well as learning about each of the Gym Leaders, and during the rematches, learning more about them and how they feel about Geeta. The glowing swords in the ground are stakes connected to four legendaries stuck in four shrines. Remove the stakes corresponding to the shrine (by color), and you'll be able to open the shrine to catch them. You can actually catch these during the main story (by befriending the history teacher), so they're not exactly post-game stuff I will say for the Team Star bosses, after the first 2 the other 3 (especially Eri) are actually pretty tough. They jump from 4 to 5 Pokémon, and it's around that point that the Starmobile becomes a pretty hefty boss.

I actually found my first ever shiny in this game! First day playing and found a shiny mudbray I named "El Piss". Years of playing Pokemon, and I only just found a shiny lol.

Something I noticed in my playthrough which should be important to note. In the second battle against Nemona where she uses pawmi's Tera type (terastylize is hard to spell) I sent out wooper and despite the immunity she only used thundershock. I'm not sure if she really only had electric moves or they programmed her specifically to only use that to show "the power Tera types add!" Especially since this issue is very much not there at Iono (but she had water gun to be fair) but it's something I feel is worth mentioning.
You fight her pawmi at lvl nine at which point it should have 2 non electric attacking moves so either her ai is borked for that fight or it is just a glorified terastilize tutorial

I am convinced Nemona feels sexual pleasure from battling with how insistent she is on it and how weirdly obsessed she is with battling the MC specifically. Like take her dialogue and replace every mention of battle with bang and watch how much it fits.
Honestly, i was bored and i replaced each time she said something along the lines of "battling" with "sex" or something similar and it fitted WAY too well
I really like the game! The only part I want that into was the Operation Starfall, but even that was fun! Nemona is funny, Arven has heart, and Penny is just the sensible one of the group. I really hope they make more like this in the future!
This does feel like a step in the right direction, but I *really* hope the next 3 games aren’t also just steps towards being a very good game. They’re improving, but I wish they would do it a bit faster
@Firenze 64 choices are too hard for Pokémon fans. Hopefully they will remove confusing “menus” and “move selection” and “movement” next to really streamline the experience.
Listen, as a Madden fan, I have felt this. Madden has been nothing but steps in the right direction for a decade now because the devs got lazy and know the game will sell. Pokémon will suffer the same fate if you justify one step forward, two steps back type thinking.
We’ve seen countless times that if you give Pokémon to other studios, the games are just better, maybe the time has come for gamefreak to step down. Just don’t give it to ILCA again, they clearly don’t know how to program
Since the move to switch, that has been my thoughts for effectively every pokemon product. Even arceus, which i like, still feels like a "maybe next time", like a concept project. The reason pokemon gets away with this is just because people keep buying the game. They have the fans hooked just enough that, while the games suck, people will always buy the next one.
I wish they would give mainline Pokemon to a competent studio and tell them to get creative with it and to actually make it look and run like a AAA game that was made at least in the last 10 years...
I have not had issue with over leveled Pokémon. The new mechanic works like this. If you catch the Pokémon under level 20, they can go over the level without badges and still obey you. However, if you go and catch a Pokémon over level 20, say level 21. That Pokémon will not listen to you til you get the first badge. If you catch Pokémon under the level gate, they still listen to you when they go over it.

Honestly I think the charm of the game is just through the roof. It's honestly why I'm glad they embraced the Open World genre. Cause we get to see Pokémon being Pokémon. Shellder swims backwards, Magikarp flop when beached, Hoppip and company get blown away when there's strong winds present, Koraidon/Miraidon akira slides on a sudden direction shift. It's the small moments in video games that imo seperate a good experience from the best experience. Monster Hunter wouldn't have the same charm without the Palicos and goofy BBQ music, MMORPGs wouldn't feel the same without the ability to emote using chat commands or dress your character in funny outfits. The mechanics and graphics may be solid, but can you pet the dog?
I am surprised about how positive this review was compared to Sonic Frontiers' since they both kinda covered a "positive half-step forawrd for a franchise, but damn we're still a ways off" kinda game

Admittedly, nemona's probably the first "buddy" rival I've been fine with since May. Probably because she's not trying to compete against you, she's already done with her journey, and is just encouraging you to get there yourself.
That's kinda what I prefer with the friendly rivals. They dont work well as direct gym competition, but better as alternate rivals (like May or Bianca going for pokedex completion, or Nemona already being a high rank and encouraging others to get to that point)

It’s Pokémon - the biggest brand in the world. They could release a demo priced for the full game and it would still move 5 million units.
The games drive the series so they are gonna be pushed with the bear minimum.

But if they release a finished, complete game, they can't staple together a more satisfying package post-launch through paid DLC.

Not only were the games lacking some expected content, the content we were given was lackluster, at best. Everything "new" in Sw/Sh was something already done in a previous game, with less effort, but more "impressive visuals", arguably...
Sun and moon were also significantly shorter/smaller than the previous gen, with more flare.
Not saying that you can't have fun with any of the recent games, but the games have steadily been losing content, as well as polish.
Heck, the fact that there are always "multiple versions" that are almost identical, BOTH with 60$ price tags, has always been scummy.

Sun and Moon started the concept of trying something diferent from gyms and ppl liked it.(There is no defending Ultra games in my opinion although I enjoyed the Necrozma fight and Ultra Wormholes the game should have just been a small dlc)
Sw Sh introduced a open world concept, raid/multiplayer concept and a more competitively geared game they were poorly executed but it opened a big door.
(Also introduced Dlc content which in my opinion the first one wasnt really worth it)
Legends was the semi exploration of open world and a change in story/ same paths.
Finally Scarlet n Violet even tho it could be better it explores and puts into practice all the previous points I mentioned can you say its a perfect game? No but atleast there is progress in my opinion.
It is true that we need something to make that great push where they put more effort into the games but I think it's atleast fair to remain in that neutral stance of the game has serious issues but its a step forward.

Apparently I also recently found out that the lagginess only gets worse if you play for too long. You have to save, close the game, and then reopen it and the lag goes away for a couple hours. I think they said it's something to do with the big city center

@@adaphion Restrictive release schedules to keep that money flow going. Pokemon didn't become the highest grossing media franchise without sacrifices. Sacrifices that really shouldn't be made anymore, yet here we are. I just hope that they have a big enough library of reanimated models and all to focus on optimization in the next one. If the signs from Legends hold true, they are actually using a dedicated engine for BOTH! and more experience and a greater asset pool can only help straightening out the problems. Prior Pokemon games were always made from the ground up, without much of a consistent architecture beneath them. Hopefully not anymore though. Even if they leaned too heavily on the Pokemon in this title. Which is fair, that's what the entire Franchise is built upon. But longer in the oven would have helped greatly.

This is literally the first Pokemon game where I ever actually ran into the "Gym badges let you use higher level wild pokemon," so I kinda have to give it points for that. Also the open-world design without content scaling hurts your choice, I got all the way up the right side of the map (to the Ice gym) and then had to slog through the other side to get past the level locking

Yeah, I had difficulty with that too. I wanted to get a Baxcalibur but wanted all my Team Members early on, and spent nearly 2 HOURS looking around the mountainous area looking for a Frigibax... that wouldn't listen to me.

That's because the gym badges never let you use higher level wild pokemon before PLA, they only let you use higher level **traded** pokemon. Hence the "even Pokemon you obtain from trades!" portion of the explanation. Any mons you caught yourself would listen to you regardless of your gym badges or their level.
I think they were going to adjust levels but just didn't given how well recieved legends arceus was for being able to encounter stupidly powerful Pokémon.
But consider: Pikachu doesn't say its name anymore. It has its old electric sounding cry. This is a huge improvement.
It’s only one step and they traded the other interesting stuff for better graphics so it really does not mean much.

You know, it’s weird. My opinions on recent Pokémon games have literally been: “This is… not that great, but it’s a good stepping stone, and I’m glad to see how they improve in the future!”
Again. And again. And again. I’m hoping this doesn’t continue.
Incremental improvement is better than none. The release cycle for Pokémon does hurt them in my opinion. That said the fact they improve at the rate they do despite it is impressive on it’s own. You can actually see how they’re pulling it off and most don’t even realize it. The “it’s a step in the right direction” bit is on purpose because they’re improving future mechanics 2 gens in advance. Sword and Shield had the Wild area, Legends was the advancement of the Wild area while trying a pseudo-open world, this game is an Open World with some tweaks to mechanics from Legends. I’m willing to bet the next game is going to work on the frame rate and pop in at worst by next gen (although that’s probably going to be fixed this one) and rework some of the Legends mechanics back in since they hit gold with that.
TLDR: every game is a closet beta test for something they didn’t have time to fully make.

Regardless my point is that they’re working within the constraints of their development time rather admirably all things considered and if you pay attention you can see the direction they’re taking the games, especially since they experiment with mechanics they want to implement a game early. Since they’re usually working on at least two games side by side.

The glowing stakes are related to the 4 Legendary "Beasts of Ruin" (respectively), and you need to location and remove 8 coordinating glowing stakes for each one before you can battle/capture them. Each one has a secondary type of Dark, and their respective descriptions are equally dark and depressing. Passing the Academy Classes nets you with background on each Teacher and either good items, a Pokemon, or a side-quest to complete later.
Though first time I saw one it was a purple stake so I thought it was an evolution item for ceruledge
5:44 for those wondering what these are , theres 4 sets of different colors with 8 stakes in each set. If you find a complete set it unlocks the corresponding colors vault, if you interact with that colored vault after getting all 8 stakes you get an encounter with 1 of 4 of the new legendaries that aren't on the box.

Notably, your Rivals pokemons final evolution will always have a secondary type that's advantageous against yours, so that can be a bit scary
Actually they always terastalize to get rid of the second type and you can do the same, so that's not really an issue

Yeah, I only just started playing Shield a few weeks ago, and I really love the lighting on the models, the color palettes, and the character designs. The flat, washed out colors and uninspired designs of the two newer games really bewilder me... How did SwSh have such vibrant, well lit models and Arceus and SV end up so bland???
The characters models is Sw/Sh I think look good but I couldn’t stand the Pokémon in the games style. They all looked like models made from plastic and rubber.

If you actually go and do all of the classes and take the exams you'll have notifications to meet up with the teachers and get to know them a little bit more when you get to know the teacher for history Raifort, she explains what the swords are for and what they do. She even puts locations on your map for the end goal of each sword color.

If you take the History Classes in the Academy, you can then start befriending your teacher, Raifort.
She will tell you the story of the Treasures of Ruin and how they were brought over from other regions in the past but then locked away in four shrines across Paldea.
She will add the shrines to your map and explain that the stakes are there to keep the treasures sealed away.
She states that the stakes that unlock the shrine can all be found near the shrine.
With that done, go out and catch Wo-Chien, Chien-Pao, Ting-Lu and Chi-Yu!
Once you’ve caught all four, return to Raifort to learn some more about the Pokémon and receive your final reward.

Something a lot of people miss is that youre able to summon Miraidon during the olive trial which lets you Fling it over the entire "Puzzle"
I used this during the harder version of the puzzle to get a time less than 30 seconds, lol

You can use Miraidon and Koraidon for the olive roll test if you like. It'd make things much easier by flinging it across. I love how past legendaries like Dialga's like "I am the God of Time" and Palkia "And I, of Space" while Koraidon and Miraidon are like *"Sandwich, take it or leave it."* Don't be dissing my boy Larry. He may not say much, but to me, his words mean so much more that way. I enjoy the Gym Leaders in this game, from a Ghost-type rapper to a chef who encourages gambling. They're all special in their own ways. Especially Larry because he's just a mood. For Team Star, I wouldn't call them troublemakers once you understand why they are the way they are. They aren't the bullies, THEY were bullied.
The picnic is a nice reference to the original Pokémon series when Brock would feed their mons and they'd all relax for a break in the episode

They did give Pikachu a little extra love in the Language classes. And personally, the classes are not necessary but they are so charming and actually have a couple of decent rewards hidden in them.

Point is, dlc is fine, and I'm willing to purchase something new and impressive; paying extra just for a complete experience, isn't right.
A good example of scummy DLC is 'Asura's Wrath' years ago (excellent, but flawed).
They split the game in half, with a "full story" to sell the game, but the actual other half was in a 30$ DLC that dropped immediately after release.
To get the full experience (literally the other half of the plot), you're basically paying 90$ for the finished game.
Back then, it was cause for outrage; now, it's expected.
Just unfortunate really.

Version differences being completely negated by a third version also didn't make much sense, yellow and crystal were unique games in their own right and had enough different content to justify their existence while emerald and on were just both games put together, with some very meh content added. Swsh may not be overwhelmingly liked but I do feel the dlc was a better call than another game.

The fact that it's assumed there are always "two versions" highlights the problem.
Just take the time to make one, singular, solid game. Obviously, that won't happen, as it takes 5% more work to make 2 versions, which in theory doubles the profits.

I know this might seem small but my biggest pet peeve with this game in the uniforms. Those orange pants clash with EVERYTHING. I really hope they release more clothing outside of that uniform

Violet here, the winter uniform is a blessing, it looks like normal clothes and all.
It's not a small issue given that it was an option in the previous games. The whole school uniform aspect never made sense once you were kicked out into the world.

I'm gonna wait for to hear more about this before picking it up. Pokemon has an issue where it seems to be improving, but does it so slowly that it always seems behind what people want from it. It also has a problem where it seems to be trying to both break and keep formulas at the same time, which kind of puts them in a middle ground that can't seem to fully satisfy either side.
Same, after sword and shield, while also seeing many conflicting reviews, I'm unsure of how to feel about this game and if it's a good buy. Imo

For the shirt and shorts: School regulations require you to wear your school uniform at all times (yeah there is literally a book in the schools library explaining that).
I assume that these two clothing options will never become more open, at least not unitl an expansion.

I disagree about the humans. I LOVE the family dynamic of the Paldean Elite Four and how they root each other on. I also liked Arven's story and what getting the Herba Mystica meant to him. As well as learning about each of the Gym Leaders, and during the rematches, learning more about them and how they feel about Geeta. The glowing swords in the ground are stakes connected to four legendaries stuck in four shrines. Remove the stakes corresponding to the shrine (by color), and you'll be able to open the shrine to catch them. You can actually catch these during the main story (by befriending the history teacher), so they're not exactly post-game stuff
I will say for the Team Star bosses, after the first 2 the other 3 (especially Eri) are actually pretty tough. They jump from 4 to 5 Pokémon, and it's around that point that the Starmobile becomes a pretty hefty boss.
It's only a matter of time when ScottFalco will ever get excited for another Pokemon game ever again...oh well!😁

I found one by accident. Just random wandering. Nice to know there are more, but also ominous.

I actually found my first ever shiny in this game! First day playing and found a shiny mudbray I named "El Piss". Years of playing Pokemon, and I only just found a shiny lol.

Something I noticed in my playthrough which should be important to note.
In the second battle against Nemona where she uses pawmi's Tera type (terastylize is hard to spell) I sent out wooper and despite the immunity she only used thundershock.
I'm not sure if she really only had electric moves or they programmed her specifically to only use that to show "the power Tera types add!" Especially since this issue is very much not there at Iono (but she had water gun to be fair) but it's something I feel is worth mentioning.
Gamefreak just has some of the worst coders under the Nintendo banner, it's honestly no surprise they programmed her this way
Pokemon AI went down the drain starting with ORAS.
You fight her pawmi at lvl nine at which point it should have 2 non electric attacking moves so either her ai is borked for that fight or it is just a glorified terastilize tutorial
That "collectible" is part of a sidequest that the history teacher gives you it's really cool that she fills you in on it

I have not had issue with over leveled Pokémon. The new mechanic works like this. If you catch the Pokémon under level 20, they can go over the level without badges and still obey you. However, if you go and catch a Pokémon over level 20, say level 21. That Pokémon will not listen to you til you get the first badge. If you catch Pokémon under the level gate, they still listen to you when they go over it.

Honestly I think the charm of the game is just through the roof. It's honestly why I'm glad they embraced the Open World genre.
Cause we get to see Pokémon being Pokémon. Shellder swims backwards, Magikarp flop when beached, Hoppip and company get blown away when there's strong winds present, Koraidon/Miraidon akira slides on a sudden direction shift.
It's the small moments in video games that imo seperate a good experience from the best experience. Monster Hunter wouldn't have the same charm without the Palicos and goofy BBQ music, MMORPGs wouldn't feel the same without the ability to emote using chat commands or dress your character in funny outfits. The mechanics and graphics may be solid, but can you pet the dog?
