    Thanks for the video easy to understand very helpful. I'm the proud new owner of a 2008 gmc Acadia lol. After a couple months check engine light pops up with the p0496 code. Not long after it appeared the traction control Stabilitrak abs disabled. So I figured it was time to replace the evap purge solenoid. Upon doing so, (and cleaning/damaging? throttle body) a new message "engine power reduced" & code p0223 (throttle / pedal position sensor / switch B circuit high). So I replaced with new throttle body and Throttle Position Sensor, Successfully removing "Engine power reduced" msg and all codes were gone and stayed gone until later that day filled up gas (didn't top off) started it up and then a flashing check engine light p0301 (cylinder 1 misfire detected) along with traction control stabilitrack abs disabled again. I'm starting to feel like im chasing my tail. Probably gonna replace coils, plugs, wires and hope I don't get a new code.. any ideas, advice, or help of any kind would be greatly appreciated! Thank you for your time

      Check the air cleaner/ air box for oil buildup. The Acadia probably needs an oil catch can. Clean your mass airflow sensor. Gently.
      I also replaced my throttle body. We traded the car in for a 2019 Jeep Renegade.

    Great video, thanks for posting. Had the exact same problem and was able to fix it myself in under an hour. Wouldn't have been able to do it without seeing this video. Thanks!!

    This video is spot on! I have a 2008 Enclave, basically the same. Had to remember to disconnect the battery, located behind passenger front seat floor. Cleared fault and all is well. Thanks ktm3009v.

    Great video! Very informative. I have a 2011 GMC Acadia and its doing the same thing yours was. The purge valve on mine I think is located on the opposite side yours is. Hopefully that will make it easier for me to replace. I hope it fixes my problem .

    Thanks for sharing/posting this video! My 2008 Saturn Outlook is doing the exact same thing and was wondering where the darn thing was located at?! Now that I know it's that easy to access and change I'll do it myself. The dealer wanted $180.00 to change it out and $110 of that was just to hook it up to the diagnostic machine!

    You are welcome. The problem seems to affect a large number of people and thankfully self repair is easy and cost effective. It was fun to make a video and maybe I will do better if I make another repair video.

    Thanks for the help just redid mine and went very smoothly! Hey next time you want to clear the check engine light after a quick repair just disconnect the negative battery terminal for about 10 seconds. You don't have to use any computer resetting divides. Good vid!

      +bryooks Thank you. I did not know codes could be cleared by disconnecting the battery. Too bad GMC does not build a scanner into the on-board system to report problems with a reset option.

    thanks for the response no water there, the only place we found water is in one of the tail lights. could it be the sensor going bad?

      Your repair is quicker than I can do it. Think of all the hours you would have to work to pay for a mechanic to do the repair. :-)

    Hey, thanks for this vid. I think I'm having the same issue, going to try to replace the valve and see if that fixes the problem. Thanks again!

      +DJFirestorm07 Did you get the code P0496 for a GMC Acadia? Does the car have trouble starting after filling the tank?
      If yes, then it is a safe bet that is the problem. Check the part on Amazon.
      The disclaimer, of course, is implied, you are on your own responsibility.

    • @DJFirestorm07
      @DJFirestorm07 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +ktm3009v I didn't get the code, but it is doing literally the same thing, and from all the research that I did, it's a clear cut case that my Acadia is having thr same issues as many others. At 114k miles.. it's pretty expected.

    Hi, thanks for the video! I was wondering, what problems were you having before replacing this part?

    • @Dezryder
      @Dezryder  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      J. Jones Problem would appear after filling the tank to full. The car would be very difficult to start and the fuel mixture seemed to be rich. What I think was happening is raw fuel would make it from the tank to the intake manifold. I believe the emission function of the purge system is to purge fuel fumes from the fuel tank. The Purge Solenoid valve must be closed when the tank is full and open when fumes need to be purged.

    I have a very soft ticking noise in that area, have that code also do you know if that part is bad would it make noise if bad or something else

    • @Dezryder
      @Dezryder  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Add up the symptoms.
      1. Hard to start after filling the tank.
      2. Code P0496.
      3. The surefire test is to remove the part and see if air blows through it. The solenoid should normally be closed letting no air through.
      The noise you could be hearing is the solenoid trying to activate and causing a clicking sound. A clicking noise is not conclusive evidence of anything but if you can blow air through the part then it is bad.

    Does anyone know if this could cause my fuel level to read empty right after pumping, and then after a few minutes it goes to normal?

    • @Dezryder
      @Dezryder  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      There is no possible way I can think of that the solenoid could cause an empty reading on your fuel gauge.
      Check for water leaking into your cab on drivers side from rain. Check dampness in floor mats. Water leaking in could cause bad electrical connections and failure. There are some reports of the radio not working after water leaking inside cab.

    I have a problem to where my acadia just dies completely while driving, can’t crank, but does have electricity running, and everytime I pump gas I have trouble getting it to start

    • @Dezryder
      @Dezryder  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ok, that sounds like a different problem. Have you experienced reduced power and loss of traction control when this happens? Tap on the throttle body and if the car starts right away and runs great for a while, then you may have a failing throttle position sensor and this can be fixed by replacing the throttle body. I don't know what your mechanical problem is and I suggest more research and a trip to a mechanic or dealership mechanic.

    Hello all. Our 2008 GMC Acadia has been a troublesome vehicle. Steering gear failure at 36K miles, out of warranty transmission failure at 76K miles, and power steering failure st 93K miles. Good news, GMC, in case by case is providing, extended warranties and price support for repairs. Call them and politely state your case. GMC wants to keep customers.

      mine is making a loud ticking noise from that solenoid after about 20 seconds of start up, is that normal or does that mean it needs to be replaced?

    • @Dezryder
      @Dezryder  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +44lilron
      20 seconds seems long. The solenoid valve failed for me near the 85,000 mile mark. If yours is old and it is clearly the source of the noise then maybe replace it.
      Trouble shoot it.
      Do you have a trouble code? Most Auto-parts stores read codes for free.
      Is it difficult to start the vehicle after filling the tank?
      The valve itself is cheap from Amazon. What to do is your decision.

    So what your saying is I should have watched this video before paying GMC to rape me for $230 including installation? I am trading it in anyways for a new SUV and it will not be a GMC. Sad thing is all these vehicles GMC BUICK CHEV are all manufactured by the same manufacturer in Mexico... Honda or Acura anyone?

      +Jesse S Yes, get a code reader, google the possible fixes and probably you will find a youtube video or many telling you how to diagnose and fix the problem.
