  • It has been a long time since I have hunted with a .22 LR. I used my CZ 455 American to hunt groundhogs and some pest birds.

    The red wing blackbirds can be legally shot in my state if they are causing damage to crops. I shoot the red wing black birds because they are a pest in my area just like the groundhogs. They cause massive amounts of damage to our sweetcorn every year. I am not just shooting them for the fun of it.

      With monkey and baboon here in south Africa the same thing applies, there is no bag limit and they can be legally shot year round. I am looking at getting a scope cam to add a bit of south african flare like Matt dubbers airarmshuntingsa channel and piets impact shooting

    The 22LR is often underestimated, many people fail to realize that 40 grains of lead traveling at the speed of sound is more than enough to kill!

    • @mclovinjr3242
      @mclovinjr3242 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Those are standard velocity so a couple hundred FPS below the speed of sound. You can get about 120 FPE out of that round but with faster moving hyper velocity. 22lr you can get much closer to 200 FPE... i have taken coons and groundhogs with less than 10 FPE. rlly doesnt take much

      @adrienmcintire5544 i have quite a few 40 grain copper plated .22lr that go about 1300 fps and some aguila interceptors that go over 1400 fps but all im saying is that you simply do not need that power for small game thats why he is using cci standards which move at 1070 fps and dont crack the sound barrier. You had thought those rounds were supersonic when in fact they are pretty much subsonic

    Nice work.. you have patience and skills.When i was your age I lived in the desert and jack rabbits was the hunt.Started with a single break 22. We had no houses for 20 miles..and a bucket of 22s... nothing to do but to get better. When there was nothing to shoot I'd throw a stick in the air. Bet i missed it a thousand times.,,,then i figured.
    Anyways right now I'm watching your videos setting in my gazebo got the 10 22 on the tripods digital scope fixed on a opening to my barn about 600 ft away. This is groundhogs last day. Btw using a sight mark scope...didnt have nothing of this nature out in the desert. Lol.

    I used to work on a Military Base near a major river. I could not go to work on a single day without seeing 1 or 2!
    Even if the weather was really bad! There was also a huge 8-point Buck who resided at the extra secure interior compound within the base!! He would usually appear just at sunset. Some of the people were afraid of him but if you left him alone, he would do the same.

      @@duncanlol hey you all ain't the only people that shoot and you're not the only people that farm ,you're talking a bunch of b******t. I've seen starlings and blackbirds come in by the thousands upon thousands. What do you think you're going to do ,shoot them all? You think shooting a dozen or 15 or 20 is going to make any damn difference, and then post it on TH-cam for everybody to look at. What a damn idiot. Shooting Red Wing Blackbirds is completely unnecessary. All you're doing is giving people that hate hunting and hate shooting sports and hate the second amendment more ammunition to throw at us. Smarten up and use your brain just a little bit.

    A .22 long rifle can travel 1 to 1 1/2 miles. Something to think about when you’re shooting birds with no back stop.

      I knew the land very well and what was behind the birds before taking the shot. It is crazy how far a little projectile can fly.

      .22 LR DOES NOT travel over a mile LOL. What an ignorant comment. It starts dropped after 100 yards. You're lucky it goes past 200 yards. The shot at the bird was not even remotely unsafe. Just sayin.

    • @mikesharkey2010
      @mikesharkey2010 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah a .22 LR can travel a mile and maybe a bit more. But that's with a high initial angle - 30 degrees or more. Relatively flat shots like these are not likely to go over 500 yards.

    • @samuelneil2691
      @samuelneil2691 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@mikesharkey2010 maybe if you shot a 22 off of mount Everest and pointed it 45 degrees upward would it go a mile. If you are shooting flat it won't go more than 200 yards.

    • @samuelneil2691
      @samuelneil2691 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      A standard velocity 22lr cci mini mag will start dropping a couple inches at 100 yards, it drops 2/3 feet at 200 yards, and way more probably 10ft at 300 yards. It would take an act of God to make a 22lr go a mile. Not sure why everyone has negative comments and tries to discourage hunters. There's a time and p lace to criticize someone on safety, but a guy in the deep woods hunting with 22lr surrounded by mountains is not the place.
