    The legend has spoken. No off limit areas in the vocabulary of Mr. Hope. He's the source of Robin Williams' inspiration for free speech hollywood monologue style. Serious but deep comedic delivery of a speech that only he could do it. Bob Hope will always be a legend in my book. Nothing but love for this man.

    Bob Hope was 68 years old by the time this aired.

    Until that final shot of the audience, it sounds like Hope was playing to 25 people in a junior-high school gym in Temecula.

    This was the year when seemingly no one gave a damn. About a third of the winners (including Orson Welles) didn't even bother to show up, the presenters were indifferent, and the crowd barely seemed to be awake most of the time.

    The tepid response to Hope's monologue (including a few boos) is indicative of the times and the days of the Generation Gap. Mayor Yorty. Sinatra's retirement. A declaration not a demonstration.

    Hardly any applause on his early jokes, why was 1971 such an uptight year???

    Look at the end of the video, the audience on the back seats didn't even clap their hands. What the fuck was wrong with those people? Are they pissed off or was it because the 'new generation' gap?

    The jokes were great, but the audience was terrible. I guess the old adage is true: show business people make the worst audience. Nobody like Bob Hope anymore.

    • @seanadams5206
      @seanadams5206 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @Jeepman89 there’s comedians that’s in the greatest of all time category like Richard Pryor that had people like Paul Mooney writing for him it’s not that uncommon and there nothing wrong with it as along as they’re not outright stealing other comedians jokes, some comedians are just able to make jokes work with their timing and delivery something that the writers of said jokes probably couldn’t do

    • @seanadams5206
      @seanadams5206 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Jeepman89 meh I think that’s subjective it’s not the funniest thing ever but I’d definitely watch this over any modern day snl sketch or a Kevin hart comedy special

      Jokes were flat and dated. Hope was Johnny Carson’s least favorite guest, and it’s easy to see why.

    Billy crystal ripped off a lot of Bob Hope's material in his performances at the Oscar's. It's sad Bob Hope didn't get more appreciation from his peers (Sag) for his work in film and for humanity (uso).

    You can tell how out of touch he already is with the audience. Old man. Out of step by then.
