I like the articulation, the shaping of the notes, the staccato, the intonation, the togetherness on dynamic changes, the togetherness on tempo, even the dress and composure of the musicians. That's a lot to like. And I liked it more than that!
The tone quality is exquisite - such a gorgeous sonority.

I disagree with criticisms that the arrangement was too repetitive. I am a professional arranger and it held my attention from beginning to end. I consider this to be one of the best arrangements of any music I've ever heard. I also happen to be a saxophone player (a student of the late, great Joseph Viola) and I heard excellent musicianship in every way, all the way - bravo!
It's Bolero. It IS repetitive no matter what instruments are used. They did a good job.
All those saxes, and not one "Sanborn lick"! Amazing! Seriously, it is amazing and beautiful!
the biggest problem with conventional sax players is that they limit the sax to a saxes sound: let the sax sound how it is! that's the beauty of sax! it can manipulate its sound to sound differently, and they mastered this perfectly by using different styles and sounds!
I can't help thinking that, if we only have a few saxes among a traditional orchestra, then having the saxes produce a non-sax-like sound doesn't really work, because in such a traditional orchestra we would specifically want them to sound "like what a sax would sound like". This Saxophone Ensemble were able to do it so nicely, because the band consists of saxes and saxes only, so there is nothing to worry about unstereotypical sound qualities.
I wonder what kind of 'being', let alone a person, could ever dislike this.

Some people run programs that automatically "thumbs down" all popular videos except their own, thinking that they can get youtube to rank theirs higher that way. And of course there are trolls that think it is fun to "thumbs down" anything.
This is the best thing I've seen in while. I stopped playing my alto 14 years ago and I'm reinspired!
This is fantastic. I know they they are a saxophone ensemble, but I think having a "guest" snare drummer wouldn't have hurt.
I love this ensemble, what they do and how well they do it. First class playing. Please keep it up, for the sake of all music lovers who appreciate true talent and musicianship.

@@AlbertPerez-jw1ry That's why I love the sax. I wish I still played it. It can do so much, and it's crazy to think that it also can do that really raunchy growl stuff you hear in rock and blues, and has good note bending ability as well. It's a really versatile instrument

In my lessons, I was always taught that the sax's sound/tone should compliment the environment and situation...that a sax's job is to "fit the pocket" and "fit the piece". From smooth jazz down to Ravel...So I get what you are saying. Basically, one of the sax's strongest points is it's ability to have it's tone drastically manipulated and blend with others...which is why they often double other parts at times haha

What impressed me as much as the virtuoso performance was the FLAWLESS INTONATION.
I could listen to this over and over! It’s a living, breathing musical performance.
They need to go on tour to the US, i would go their concert if they came to San Diego.
Absolutely wonderful Ensemble. Loving the range from very very soft beginning right through increasing to such a tremendous finish - Wow! The position of the instruments on their right looks so elegant. Their movement enhances the enjoyment too. Bolero is amazing - thank you so much for sharing :)

A magnificent rendition and so in keeping with the original, jazz inspired piece. The sonority is wonderful and I love those not -quite glissandi at the end. Excellent!

in the second stage of the piece when the forte and fortissimo arise, but the interpretation is in the spirit of the original orchestration and they sound in a amazing way

Ya, it's actually fine either way. I used to play "side saddle" for awhile until I grew taller and it became generally more comfortable to play down the middle. But even now, some situations I find that a side position on alto is more comfortable...the principle is comfort, and it's better to be comfortable while playing than not :-)

Actually, it isn't something 4th graders would do. The saxophone can be played to the side or between the legs. There are several famous saxophonist who play to the side. It's a matter of whatever works for them or how they were taught to play the saxophone.
