My late dad was a drummer in a jazz trio in the 70’s and he once told me that Bolero was also known as the drummers nightmare as they have to keep the same beat and tempo going through the entire piece.
Im Sorry about tour father and my codollation for te baterist
The tempo is a tad upbeat, which helps the drummer who is awesome 👌
I've always wondered about that. It would be hard.
Rest In Peace dear Dad. ❤
No one cares about your Dad
Possibly the richest, most lush performance of Bolero I've ever heard. Bravo.
The small drum, as simple as it may seem, is the one that from beginning to end marks the time of all the other instruments. A true work of art, the melody and its interpretation.
This is not music, this is the sound of heaven
Unbelievable concentration levels of the drummer. And he keeps looking up the conductor. Wow.
At least he got a standing ovation. Completely deserved.
As a percussionist, I have to say that Bolero is one of the most challenging pieces you can play. It takes a fierce level of concentration to maintain that perfect beat all the way through. It always left me totally drained by the end.
NO WORDS DESCRIBE
ONLY FEELI NGS
BEST WAY TO DESCRIBE
IT IN THE BIBLE IT SAYS
EYE HAS NOT SEEN NOR
EAR HAS NOT HEARD THE THINGS GOD HAS
PREPARED FOR THEM
THAT LOVE HIM
I'm impressed doesn't even begin to describe my feelings!
Poor guy. I'll bet his arm totally fell off at the end. That would be quite a crescendo.
I was a drummer for 25 years in a big Orchestra. The bolero is not that difficult if you use your right foot for a constant rythm. Always watch the conductor. But this guy is sitting in front of the orchstra. Thank god I never had to do this !
That man on the drum 🥁is amazing! He must dream😴 at night about that rhythm, and have nightmares about losing it!
Hes Marcel Felize and his two sons are also in Andre Rieus orchestra.
Duude now I literally cannot unhear it I constantly think about it
Yes, and playing this exact song and rhythm on the bassoon is a real nightmare! 100%
That’s what i was thinking about
BB45, it's called practice.(Still one of the best songs for sex, the music isn't the only thing that swells with progression).
There is something about Bolero that just stirs the soul.
❤
One of the best piece of music on the face of this earth
The drummer's concentration and skills are remarkable!
Estupendo Andrés Reeu
@bru baker Without a doubt
@bru baker haha
Грандиозное исполнение !!!
The drummer is tha main point and he is remarkable!
I don't even want to imagine how extremely difficult it must be to keep the beat that Marcel Falize is playing on his drum at the exact same speed for nearly seven minutes :o
agree
really? well, then this is obviously just a shortened version of the song
+Matthias Köhler (MattK269) Well, the conducter is the one keeping everyone at beat.
I know -.- But keeping up with it is the difficulty here
The original is 15-16 minutes long......
that drummer as live metronome.. incredible 😲
I play drums in an orchestra and my grandmother once went to see a performance of bolero, when she came back she said i had to listen to it and pitch it to my conductor which i never did. She died a few moths later just before Christmas and ive now decided to come back to this video and listen to the song and it is a musical masterpiece, thanks grandma 🕊️
I just want to be there... The stage and the outfits, the fire and lights are perfectly fit to the music. What a collaboration!
You should come visit, Andre plays in his hometown here in Maastricht every year!
bastymanguy Your words never hurt me, keep on living like that and go to hell where you will find your kind. Say hi to Hitler there.
Wtf is wrong with you?!
We all have our passions, Andre and his Orchestra is one of mine. And, it's not quite as expensive as you think. A RT ticket to Amsterdam from Seattle is around $900 per person. We took the train to Maastricht, pocket change. Hotel and concert in Maastricht was around $200 if I remember correct;y. We did not stay in Masstricht, but rather, in one of the outlying towns which was very enjoyable.

What that orchestra needs is a 5 string banjo, the greatest musical instrument in history.
Three things that make this particular live performance really stand out way above all of the rest I've seen on TH-cam...1. The tempo is perfect, slightly faster than usual, giving it a lot more energy. 2. The inclusion of the vocalists near the end of the piece is a stroke of musical arrangement genius...sends shivers every time! 3. The respect given to the humble snare drummers front of stage playing 7 minutes of perfect simplicity. Bravo indeed!
the faster tempo actually ruins it for me .
just say thank you nicely done
@@williemoon7522 take a break from the wank,,,,,wash your hands and try again
Definitely a little fast
@@raywilliams3530 Yes, Ray...the tempo is determined quite precisely by the conductor :D
When I was a boy in rural Jamaica. I recall this classical music that usually was played on an idyllic Sunday afternoon. It was so heavenly amongst the green, silent countryside ...just fantastic memories flooding. Amen.
So sweet of you to share this memory. Music is so powerful

This man on the drum is incredible. How to do it is beyond my mind
That guy there on the opening drum. All the way through. What an absolute boss.
:v
And if this was the full length Bolero, he would be epic legendary level boss. Bolero actually goes for about 15 minutes.

Ravel himself said of this piece : "Yes, it seems to have a hit. Too bad there there isn't any music."
It's not meant to be listened to, it's a joke, a fuck you to Ida Rubinstein, an exercise in orchestration, tension and release, a machine, a factory of worthless repetition, a masterpiece, everything but music.
My father really loved this piece.
Вот оно-настоящее искусство,браво оркестру Рье и Равелю за музыкальный шедевр!!!!

Rieu doesn’t just play waltzes. A bolero is a slow-tempo eighteenth-century Spanish dance, but since it is in triple time just like a waltz, it seems to fit right up André Rieu’s street and is one of his best tracks. Ravel’s ‘Boléro’, composed in 1928, is probably the most famous bolero of all time - especially after it was used by Torvill and Dean for their unforgettable 1984 Olympic routine.
You forgot BoDerek in "Ten", 1979.
also carolina kostner used it
" Carmen", is still my favorite.
I am a big fan of Torvill and Dean, I taped that performance in 84. Every now and then I go to utube and watch it again.
Pretty soon it'll be 100 years old.

I just spent one of the most enjoyable seven minutes of my life (which goes some being seventy three years old) listening to Andre Rieu lead his arrangement of Ravel's Bolero. I wish I could say more but I was in an accident a couple years ago that put a limit on the amount of time I'm able to stay cognizant of what I'm saying or writing. I began playing serious and not so serious music over sixty years ago and somehow came up with the idea if it's popular it can't be good. Boy was I wrong. Very beautiful and very stirring.
Music reaches parts of us nothing else will reach. I hope you heal one melody at a time, Larry. I'll say a wee prayer for you today ❤️
God bless

You are right. Love is very wonderful.
I just love the style of control. If you watch him, he just looks at the next contributor to the piece and raises an eyebrow. There are a lot of small grins backwards and forwards, these musicians would just about die for this man and you can't buy that. Salute to you sir, a very high standard indeed.
Andre is the best, love his music deerly
A genius does complex things with ease I'd say
@@bingbong6861 You are correct, but Andre Rieu takes the people with him, both audience and orchestra. A hard act to follow in these days of self entitled celebrities.

Que emocionante
Classic at its finest!!!
Absolutely fantastic, made me cry at the end, the passion of the music! Just brilliant 💞
My standing ovation to the Maestro and the whole team.
I met the "Bolero de Ravel" when I was 5 years old at the beginning of the year 1994. My father had an old cassette and for the first time I played it on the old "mini audio components". Of course, I didn't know that I was listening to a piece by Ravel, I was just fascinated by the music. Throughout my childhood I enjoyed this piece without having any idea of the most basic formalities, when was it composed? By whom? What style of music is it?
I suppose that when genius reaches our ears, regardless of how old we are, we know how to recognize it and enjoy it. The beauty of music is universal and eternal.
