bought one from wal mart yesterday but how can i i install the regular play store on it not this locked down version?
Andrea Mitchell what you bought at Walmart was not this same box , you bout the mi box with Android TV which doesn't run regular Android , it only has apps made for tv , same OS the Nvidia shield runs . you can sideload any app tho , it's not really that hard to do .

There were 2 newer models (released Feb 2018) strictly for Chinese speaking customers, using name MiBox 4 (MDZ-21-AA) and 4C.
As such, they are configured for Chinese language Chinese apps and China sourced video content.
Further, you are reinforcing the deceptive tactics employed by lever (or deceitful) sellers who are presenting these Chinese boxes as upgrades to the single international market MDZ-16-AB that sells for $US69.
The domestic cost for the MiBox 4 is RMB 349, 4C is RMB 249.
Offering these machines to foreign purchasers at an excessive price of over $US80 is a trick to suggest they are superior to the very successful international MDZ-16-AB, to which there is only the most minimal comparability.
Apply an abundance of caution and skepticism before falling for this naked misrepresentation and sales puffery.

Model number MDZ-16-AB is the ONLY model designed specifically for international market users. It is built from official AndroidTV and supports a very broad range of languages. Every other Xiaomi tv box is focused for Chinese speakers in the PRC.
This product will never be released to international market. It is decidedly targeted to the domestic Chinese market. Buy the only true international product...model MDZ-16-AB. Look on aliexpress.com

Mi Box 3 enhanced has a way more Powerful SOC with Cortex-A72. A way better buy in my opinion. Sadly they never released it outside of China..

Simple reason......it is set up to work with Chinese video sources that cannot be accessed outside of PRC. If you want an excellent Xiaomi TV box that works outside of PRC, get model MDZ-16-AB, the ONLY box designed for international market.
Excellent coverage and camera work! I stream from phone with unlimited data SIM (2), to TV with second unlimited data SIM for. browsing, calls, messages etc, so no wifi. Not a gamer. I can read 5 languages, but Chinese not on my limited list. Peace

Zi Reviews Tech Lived in Luxembourg for two years and attended a French/German school. Later became fluent in Spanish, so Italian is an easy transition.

The Mi Box 4 is a downgrade at the same price as the 3S,.it doesn't have 5Ghz wifi, no 4K hdr, and decodes less video formats. The wise choice is the international version
I have the Xiaomi Mi Box 3 and Netflix has never worked. Even reinstalling the apk, still doesn’t work. Plays about 10 seconds and stops. Doesn’t give me confidence to get the 4.
Don't buy this. Buy the internatioal version instead above

very disappointed with my Xiaomi tv Box, I really don't know why they didn't put ethernet port in this version! I have IPTV service and I still get issues with the internet connection. even when they say this wireless its last generation I guess its 5g, but still nothing works better than ethernet from my experience.

DO NOT UPDATE!!!!!! This update is terrible..... no more root, no more can you access extrernal hard drives in kodi etc and last but not least still no auto framerate fix..... Fuck i hate xiaomi mi box. These chinese are always terrible when it comes to software.
Rubbish review, you should have just advertised it in Chinese, irrelevant as you are speaking in english.... So can you change the language, can you install Google play? Can you customize the homescreen? Thumbed down
