Yes, you can use such adapter to connect to your local network through Ethernet cable. Note though that the USB port is only version 2.0 so you won't get gigabit speeds with it. It should be plenty adequate though for streaming media.

The Mi Box S consumes around 2W of power when idle and only about 1W when on standby/sleep mode. It's very minimal if you ask us and if you're using the device everyday, it's might be more of a hassle to turn it off from the main switch and wait for it to boot up every single day. But of course, if power consumption is your concern, you may want to turn it off from main switch to ensure that there's no power draw at all. For our case, we only use the remote control to turn the device off.

I have one IMPORTANT question though, I came to know that in sound setting there is no SPDIF output option along with PCM, auto etc. Does this prevent connecting Xiaomi box 2nd gen to soundbar through minitoslink to toslink cable and get dolby digital (5.1 channel) audio to soundbar which is possible in MI box 4k S 1st gen. Please elaborate on this, this is very important setting for audio output. In 1st gen MI box S there is option of SPDIF output in sound setting. Thanks in advance for your help.
Yep no 5.1 as there is no conversion chip for Dolby to optical I was also Disappointed when I discovered this but you will still get 2 channel pcm sound but no surround sound same goes for dts

@@pausiee_gaming I found out after thorough research that Xiaomi Boxi or Amazon Fire stick doesn't deliver Lossless Dolby Atmos. Only Nvidia Shield Pro (2019 model) delivers that. You can use your Sony S40R with Nvidia shield, but just ensure that this speaker has Atmos features.

Yeah wrap the device in aluminium foil...also completely wrap your router in aluminium foil and check your phone's signal to make sure there's no WiFi signal leaking out ..that can also cause a very dangerous form of cancer, also place your phone in a Lead box to block the radiation from that after you've made sure there's no WiFi signals leaking from the router then after all of that build a Faraday cage around your house to completely isolate from all electromagnetic radiation as that can cause cancer as well

Yes. It has a built-in media player pre-installed. But you can also use other players downloaded off Play Store such as VLC. You can play media files from a USB drive or through network.

As we know, the back button issue with air mouse is mainly related to the Android TV version (Oreo). You might get better compatibility for your device with the 2nd gen as it's a more recent version (v11). You can also try to use the "Button Mapper" app as a workaround instead of getting a new air mouse. It worked for us so it might also work for you :)

This is a very good question. We're actually preparing a comparison video between this device and Amazon Fire Stick 4K Max. It should be posted in the next few days. To give you a brief, it really depends on your requirements. The Xioami device has a USB port which can be a plus for those who want to play their own local media. On the other hand, Fire Stick is more integrated to Amazon services so it maybe better if you only want to stream from the internet. The region where you are located should also be considered.
We can't seem to trigger TrueHD in our receiver with this device. We'll keep on testing and update you. Xiaomi is quite vague about the sound format that it supports as they only mention - Dolby Audio and DTS-HD in the specs sheet.

Usb to ethernet doesn't work. Always disconnects when setting box on stand-by and then turn back on.
