I love this series. I don't know why but when Jon plays games that he really knows well it is much more fun to watch. For example this series where he shows different ways to do a mission and has fun showing his knowledge of it all, or in Fallout where he's dedicated multiple series showing just how much is in the game and how fun it can be.
Genuninely one of (if not the) best channels on TH-cam. Thank you.

Did you know in Japan, if you go to one of the old castles in Kyoto they actually squeak like that. So this game actually did its research. They were made to do that on purpose so they would know if they had an intruder, mainly during the night.

Assassinating Hayamoto's son was my favorite Japan mission in Hitman 2. I found the other three too big of a step in difficulty this early in the game. I somehow managed to SA that level my first try, and was a really cool assassination.

  • @Ian_Hay

Older video, but good that you mention the music and its themes in Russia vs Japan. The music for Hitman 2 Silent Assassin was created by Jesper Kyd, who also did the original Hitman: Codename 47, then Contracts and Blood Money. He also did the music for Freedom Fighters (another of your fav’s, and mine), and did the music for the first 4 or so games in the Assassin’s Creed franchise. But after those first four, and after Hitman Blood Money, for some inexplicable reason Kyd and the developers of both those franchises parted ways. The music was a huge and memorable element in the games Jesper Kyd worked on, and both franchises lost something after that.

Another fun way of taking that last guy out is setting the bomb right next to where he goes to get the guidance system, I think it might even be an easier way to get the least amount of kills in that run as well.

  • @SimoExMachina2

I used to play the hell out of this game. I'm pretty sure, at some point, I've gotten Silent Assassin rating in every mission, very much thanks to TH-camrs who are much more resourceful than me. The gun collection mechanics, combined with the limitations how many weapon you can carry (only 1 large weapon at the time), gave the incentive to finish certain levels multiple times to get all the different weapons to your collection.

to be honest, I think the cover system is a good addition, though the "awareness" of the guards could be worked on when they aren't really sure if they just saw a grown man jump over a ledge. However, it makes sense that 47, as an assassin, would know how to take cover behind stuff.

It was truly a game ahead of its time. It was originally released in 2002 and ran on a PS2. I find it funny how a game that is close to 20 years old has more interesting mechanics that also add to the realism that the modern titles don't bother doing.

His original and memorable music was *so good*, and was such a critical part of Silent Assassin, Contracts and Blood Money (and Freedom Fighters, and the first 3 or so Assassin’s Creeds). Leaving him out of Absolution and later games made no sense, and his absence was notable. The games after that missed something.

I’m going to disagree on the cover mechanic criticism. I’m all for some more immersive less gamey elements or increasing the challenge a bit but honestly the ability to take cover and quickly move between cover just makes too much sense for the game. Especially over clumsily trying to maneuver behind cover and hoping that you are positioned well enough to not be spotted because a tiny bit of you happened to be sticking out and you didn’t realize. Sure it makes things a bit easier but I’d argue it’s better to sacrifice a little challenge in the name of giving the player more reliable and controllable tools. Leave the challenge to come from the mechanics, scenario, and enemies not the old school jank of outdated control schemes. The old games were good for their time but quality of life mechanics like cover systems where appropriate are welcome in newer titles.

It wasn't cancelled by Bethesda. Bethesda told them the same thing they told the F4NV team: using clips of their voice actors in those games is not allowed. The F4NV team decided that that was okay, and have taken on voice actors to voice act out the entire game, but the Fallout 3 team, a much smaller team, decided that it wasn't worth the effort. Bethesda didn't cancel anything directly.
