  • This video explains every Founding Titan in the Attack on Titan anime and manga. The Founder is one of 9 titan shifters in AOT and there have been TEN founding titans that we know of. In the AOT manga we have currently seen more Founding titans than in the anime, which has had 7 Founding Titan so far (Eren Yeager, Grisha Yeager, Uri Reiss, Frieda Reiss, King Reiss, Karl Fritz & an ancient King Fritz). The manga displays more Founding Titans of the past, specifically Ymir Fritz and her daughters. This video will explain the backstory of all Founding Titans that we know of and also comment on the design of ancient titans.

    AOT final season
    AOT Season 4
    In this video I’m gonna explain every Founding Titan in the history of attack on titan, ranging from nearly 2000 years ago all the way up till the present day of AOT.
    The coordinate has control over every subject of ymir, including all titans and titan shifters. It's abilities were severely weakened by Karl Fritz's vow renouncing war, but luckily for Eren that vow only affects those who have royal blood.
    The first person on this list is Ymir Fritz, who was the original founding titan from nearly 2000 years ago. In terms of design, this original titan had features that we don’t often see, such as her protruding ribs and the fact her skull has no flesh whatsoever. In the final chapter of Attack on Titan, Armin questioned why Ymir would continue to obey Fritz and do these things for 2000 years, with Eren confirming it was because she loved him. Since she died 13 years after inheriting her titan, none her descendants can posses a shifter for longer than that, with their bodies deteriorating when the time gets closer. This is called the Curse of Ymir.
    The 2nd founding titan was one of Ymir’s three daughters; either Maria Fritz, Rose Fritz or Sheena Fritz (Sina in the anime). After Ymir died, King Fritz was desperate for the power of the titans to not disappear, so he made his daughters to eat Ymir’s body. This is similar to how people will now turn into pure titans before eating a shifter.
    The 4th founder we know is Karl Fritz, who was the 145th king of the eldian empire. He felt sympathy for Marley especially. The great titan war also raged on during Karl’s lifetime, in which the noble families had a civil war using the other 8 shifters. He then conspired with the Tybur family (keepers of the warhammer titan) to bring down the eldian empire. He materialised millions of colossus titans on Paradis island. When those titans were in position, Karl utilised their hardening ability to erect the 3 walls we know today and their names were Maria, Rose and Sina. The king then changed the royal families last name to Reiss.
    Uri Reiss was a following founding titan and became surprising friends with Kenny Ackerman. He was preceded by his father (King Reiss) and succeeded by Frieda Reiss. Freida Reiss became the new founding titan in the year 842 and just like Uri she thought she could overcome the will of Karl Fritz. After gaining the founder she would give sermons exactly like her uncle used to do and in her spare time Frieda played with historia and wiped her memory afterwards.
    There was one occasion Eren witnessed a memory of Frieda brushing her hair and the anime definitely made it seem like she saw him looking at her. In terms of her founding titans design, it was slightly short than Grisha’s 15 meter attack titan.
    Following that fight, the 8th founder in this video is of course Grisha Yeager, who is responsible for merging the attack titan and founding titan into one body. Zeke Jaeger is the next person on this list to have used the founders power.
    The last founding titan is obviously Eren Yeager. His first action was to begin the rumbling. Next he telepathically sent a message to every subject of ymir on the planet. Eren's boney founding titan is the biggest titan ever. The coordinate has the power to resurrect ancient titan shifters. It’s main body is nearly identical in shape to the hallucigenia. Eren had the attack titan, founding titan and warhammer.

      Hello turtle quirk, im actully writing a series called godzilla planet of the kaiju which is godzilla, gamera, king kong ATTACK ON TITAN, pacific rim, evangelion, and cloverfield all in one universe, anyways fun fact ymir frits always names the attack titan the demon titan because she was given the Power from king ghidorah who took a dead halucegina? (ill just call it a worm) and revived it to make the titans and actully eve (the first women on earth) is the first titan but didnt give it to any of her sons or daughters but sadley ymir suffred the same fate as her original counterpart and by the way the titan shifters are normaly 80.meters tall but a grown up man is at least 190.meters tall and a young colossal is at least 600.meters tall (yeah thats a bit tall) anyways i made them tall to have a chance against the immortal kaiju and the gosh darn dead/alive angels cause... Damn they are huge anyways if you have any ideas tell me and continue the legends turtle quirk.

    One interesting point to note is that Mikasa's instinct to always protect Eren and do whatever he says may have been influenced by the Founder Ymir herself, mirroring her unwavering devotion to King Fritz. It's hinted that Ymir was the one who caused Mikasa's headaches, as a side effect of Ymir prying into her head. Ymir sort of appointed Mikasa as Eren's protector, which may be because she saw something in Mikasa that reminded her of herself and she wanted to see if Mikasa could free herself of the same 'curse' that she had, which was loving someone to the point of blind obedience.

      @@ozarka1110 I liked the ending, and they did improve on the manga version with better dialogue at the end. I see it as like the end of ragnarok in Norse mythology, it even had Hange (who had one blind eye) dying as the kickoff to the rumbling just like how Odin (also blind in one eye) was to ragnarok in the original mythology. It's 'the end of all things' but also a cycle that repeats itself.

    Something i haven’t seen mentioned anywhere but i feel is a nice feature to be mentioned is the actual contrast between the original founding titan and eren’s version. The original was basically a giant human body with a skull instead of a face, and eren’s form is head with the rest of his body as a skeleton. The contrast kinda feels like its made to mark it as the final founding titan (tho this is obvious).

      the only reason eren’s titan looked messed up like that was because he was shot in the process of transforming, his legs are as long as they’re supposed to be although at the far far end of that huge bone pile, he’s just stretched and mostly ribcage because he was being reattached by the parasite as he was transforming. Attack has future memories, Founder is basically a god, and Female has the ability to mimic other Titan abilities extremely well. The Colossal-Armored-Warhammer because all three are made for raw stopping power and defense, while sacrificing stamina. The Beast-Jaw-Cart connects because they all display animalistic features.

I believe that those not of royal blood but are still subjects of Ymir are simply descendants of the other Eldians, and not related to Ymir’s bloodline. I think Ymir unintentionally created the curse of Ymir all those years ago. While Ymir is dying, the shadows on her eyes start to become brighter, the only time the shadows over her eyes disappear is when she's doing something of her own free will, like opening the animal pen to free the pigs, or choosing to obey Eren over Zeke, so I believe the king was correct, that spear wouldn't have killed Ymir, but she chose to hold her regeneration and die instead of getting back up, but when she did she unknowingly gave her first command as the Founding Titan. Like Eren accidentally freeing Annie from her crystal and shattering Reiner's armor by undoing all hardening, Ymir choosing to die after thirteen years had the unintended consequence of causing *all* titan shifters to die after thirteen years

    Edit: read the replies
    I think you are mistaken about Eren not having free will. What actually happened is that since the moment he kissed Historia's hand, he saw the of memories from the future of not only one timeline, but various timelines, and he chose to follow the path where he sacrificed himself while making the Alliance the heroes of the world. So he says he was the one who sent the titan to kill his mom because in order to achieve his plan, he needed every event that came before to be the exact same. Eren DID have free will, everything he did before kissing Historia's hand was not an act, he only started following the plan after it. Sorry if i couldn't explain well.

    • @MarcoPecoraro
      @MarcoPecoraro 3 ปีที่แล้ว +27

      i like and prefer your interpretation, but i think nothing in the manga hints that eren can see multiple future timelines, or that he can change the future.. On the other hand, he clearly state that he can se past, present and future (singular) at the same time. did i missed something?

    • @fedewyt
      @fedewyt 3 ปีที่แล้ว +41

      @@MarcoPecoraro let me correct myself. After reading again some pages of the manga my thought on Eren having free will has not changed, but my reasoning did. Eren didn't see several timelines, however, he saw his future through his dad's future memories and *decided not to change it* , because yes, he could've decided to not go down that path, but he did anyways because he viewed it as the better solution, this is why I think he does have free will. And about the thing about the titan that killed Carla: what happened is the same that happened with Grisha killing the Reiss familiy, for reference I recommend reading chapter 121 again, and you'll understand that what happened with the Dina titan is the same, Eren wasn't a puppet, but apparently in the "original timeline" Bertholt was supposed to get eaten, and founder Eren from the "future" manipulated the titan so it ignores Bertolt, for the sake of getting to the future he saw in the future memories. You could kinda say Eren was a puppet of... Eren, but thats contradictory, and I'm not even sure about that since this isn't really about time travel, as Eren says in chapter 139, past, present and future are all the same to him, so yeah, Eren has always had free will. Sorry for the long text lol.

    • @MarcoPecoraro
      @MarcoPecoraro 3 ปีที่แล้ว +28

      @@fedewyt don't worry, that is complex matter and requires long text ^^ .The 121 chap is indeed really important, because explains the nature of Eren. I agree that Eren wanted the future he saw. He was horrified by that future, but despite this he never had second thoughts like Grisha did. BUT he has only one path to go. If he didn't agree with that path, if he decided to change path, he couldn't do that, because there is only one path. He had the illusion to choose path A (world destruction) or path B (paradis destruction?), and he choose A. But in the end the path B (or C, D, etc.) never existed so this was really a choice? Why path B never existed? Because of the predestination paradox (a.k.a. causal loop). The moment he received the vision of the future from Historia, "choosing" path A, he "decided" to accept the future in witch he influence grisha in the past in order to have the power to destroy the world. But if he had chosen not to influence Grisha, he would never have obtained the attack titan, he would have died eaten by a giant, he would not have been there at that moment to contemplate the future and make the choice. The very fact of existing when he sees the future implies that he MUST necessarily choose path A (otherwise is a paradox ). Grisha is an example of person that has tried to change the future he has seen, but his efforts have only served to be manipulated by Eren and make that same future come true. Other than manipulate Grisha, he must save berthold and indirectly kill his mother: these facts needed to occur for the existance of the omniscent Eren, or a paradox occurs. We can agree that Eren was not manipulated by himself, and that the whole world destruction path exists because of Eren nature, and because Eren was always like this since childshood (as stated in chap 121, a good move from Isayama). He was the predestined since ever. I think this is the meaning of the first quote of the manga: "to you, 2000 years from now". Is Ymir Fritz thinking about the person (Eren) who will end the curse 2000 years from now. (She has all titan powers, so she must be able to see future memories). From a philosophical point of view, this is really free will? Eren wants that (immutable) future, but Eren exitance, his nature, and the whole story was carved in stone and choosen by some higher being (his Universe, the Nature, physical laws, God, Isayama, etc.). Maybe this question goes beyond manga, and is more a matter of philosophy and personal beliefs.

    • @fedewyt
      @fedewyt 3 ปีที่แล้ว +28

      @@MarcoPecoraro you make a very good point, this might be more philosopical than we thought. Think about this: was the future the way it was because of Eren's nature, or is Eren's nature like that because of his future? If Eren hadn't kissed Historia's hand, would he still have killed 80% of the world? What I'm trying to say is... the future that Eren saw in the ceremony is that way *because of Eren* , not the other way around. If lets say, Armin had the founder and kissed Historia's hand, the future would have been different, because it would've been shaped by Armin's nature. Everything Eren did would have happened even if he hadn't kissed Historia's hand, because that was his future anyways, and in that case, would we be discussing if he had free will? If he doesn't have free will, doesn't that mean that nobody in AOT has free will, because there's a fixed future? Eren kissing Historia's hand only served to make Eren more aware of the situation, but if he hadn't seen the future memories, he would've gone that path anyways, because he is Eren, and that future was shaped by his own nature.

    My theory on the whole subject of Ymir thing is that the titan power was an interdimensional thing where when the body of Ymir was eaten, the coordinate connected to all the souls of the people the possessor came from. And maybe if the founder wasn’t eaten, it could pass on to anyone of any people. It’s different for the other shifters because they are only subordinate to the founder.

    It's seemingly the case that the 3 daughters were also cannibalised by their own daughters to make 9 titan shifting powers, so the royal bloodline is probably solely descended from that 1 granddaughter of Ymir.
    Or they could've all been royals until one holding the Founding titan ordered Ymir to change that as a means to secure their own power.
