    I'll be back in about 10 months as a refresher once I have my own copy

    I say this as someone who is a huge fan of Wayfarers, Garphill Games, and boardgames in general…. The first few minutes of this felt like an unintentional parody of The Most Complicated Boardgame Ever, or Ameritrash vs Eurogames. 😆
    I sometimes lose sight of how deep in the hobby I’ve gotten, how skewed my perception of a “gateway game” has shifted heavier and heavier. Not that I would, given the complexity of this trilogy so far, but I’d I were to show this to someone who doesn’t “get” boardgames, it’d sound like the Cones of Dunshire.
    Of course I’m backing it, but this was a nice opportunity to laugh at how ridiculous and straight up esoteric this hobby can appear sometimes. 😁
    You guys are awesome, keep up the great work!
    ps Bandido has become one of my son’s favourites, thanks for turning us on to it. 👍

      Yeah we are all waaaaaaaaay deep into this thing by now and you’re so right if you walked up to someone on the street and started explaining this game it’d melt their face off!

    Don't get me wrong, your explanation seems clear and thorough, but I can't imagine trying to teach this to my usual play group. I think people would start to cry, and I'm only 2 minutes into the video. 😂

    Omg I just love the theme on this one. Wayfarers is great, but I have a feeling I’ll love this one even more. Garphill Games strikes again, sheesh.

    Great job! Very condensed, had to watch twice 😅 I like the theme but might be too heavy. Let’s wait for the playthrough

    1 question as someone who has every garphill games and loves them; is this as heavy as it seems? The dice manipulation with the dice and workers that can manipulate seems so heavy on first glance. I love love love wayfarers, where does this stack up un terms of difficulty?

    • @TheBrothersMurph
      @TheBrothersMurph  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's between wayfarer's and Paladins in our opinion. The dice manipulation can be hard to wrap your head around in the beginning but after a turn or two you pick it up no problem.

  • @paulrumohr
    @paulrumohr 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

    100% agree. The dice mechanic is over the top, the teach will be brutal, and the rounds will stretch to forever as the rules are consulted to see what dice/worker placements actually mean.
    Just too much to be fun, even for serious gamers.

      I mean we dig it but yeah won’t be for everyone

    Since you did a "Best of the West" video are we going to get a "Most Desirous of the Tigris" video once Inventors comes out?

    And my playgroup says Gaia Project is convoluted

    • @TheBrothersMurph
      @TheBrothersMurph  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It’s definitely not the lightest game out there

  • @frankndice
    @frankndice ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Looking forward to this game but man that’s a heavy teach

    • @TheBrothersMurph
      @TheBrothersMurph  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      For sure, but for us the teach of this is easier than Wayfarers. Wayfarers is so open ended it's tough for us to have a cohesive teach. This game is more linear, albeit heavier

  • @5knights223

    How is this solo? I don’t know if I ever would want to teach this and I love their games.

      Nick did a solo play so you can check it out and see if it'd be a good one for ya. Hope you enjoy! th-cam.com/users/livewuCHXV2E6fo

    Oh good grief. The color mechanism is just too much. The dice placement with the 15 placement modification rules is also too much. Then there’s the rest of the Game dictating which primary colors or secondary colors and or numbers that can be modified by workers but depends on the color of the workers that might alter primary colors into secondary colors but not the other way around but if it’s the same color the dice become six. What?

    • @TheBrothersMurph
      @TheBrothersMurph  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Idk we think it’s all pretty rad but no game is for everyone

    • @andrewwhite6330
      @andrewwhite6330 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think maybe all this manipulation of the dice and colors could lead to some AP inducing situations as there are just so many ways you could go. I would be scared of the playtime possibly with higher player counts?

    • @MrJankTv
      @MrJankTv ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@andrewwhite6330 I agree, plus the teach on this would be miserable. I just tried explaining the color mechanism to my friend and they said “nope”.

    • @cubist12
      @cubist12 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      These were my thoughts too. The first two minutes explaining the color/die mechanism would probably cause many gamers to stand up and walk out. 😂There's absolutely those that this mechanism will jive with and they'll enjoy it a lot. Not me, though.

    Between wayfarers and scholars which do u like better?

    • @TheBrothersMurph
      @TheBrothersMurph  ปีที่แล้ว

      Tricky one because they are so different and we’ve played wayfarers a bunch more
      To this point but for me (Mike) I think wayfarers has the edge if by only a millimeter

  • @alister3882

    Looked harder than paladins in the overview, but probably not, looking foward to buy it, all this games are a secure bet.

    • @TheBrothersMurph
      @TheBrothersMurph  ปีที่แล้ว

      Copy that I’d say it’s close but paladins still edges it

  • @lonniestewart8428
    @lonniestewart8428 ปีที่แล้ว

    Oddly, this game seems to click with my brain where many of the heavier games are a bit of a struggle at least initially.
    That being said, Paladins was similar for me and most say that’s the heaviest West Kingdom game.
    Either way, thank you for the clear and informative overview. I’m very much looking forward to playing this game.

  • @KenDudd
    @KenDudd ปีที่แล้ว

    Garphil are so hit and miss for me. Paladins is fantastic, but I REALLY didn't like wayfarers. This seems to have some similarities to wayfarers, (influence, rest bonuses) but will definitely try it.

    • @TheBrothersMurph
      @TheBrothersMurph  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah i feel like this whole series of 3 will see similarities like the influence but scholars is definitely very different than wayfarers
