Gene Roddenberry only agreed to do the animated series if the stories weren't dumbed down and they could tell the same type they told in the series. Many of TOS's original writers like Samuel A. Peeples, David Gerrold and Dorothy Fontana returned.

It is James Doohan. He did a number of extra voices in this show and TOS.
@@josephmassaro The producers were always looking to save money so it made sense to use Doohan for a lot of voices.
