I think what tsukki wanna rest during lunch break is acceptable. The problem is how he says it. Yamaguchi declined nicely and everyone was fine with him

Yachi definitely seems to have anxiety or something, but she is so sweet and it makes me glad that the boys will have someone there for them when Shimizu graduates, also, i love how Hinata inmediately made friends with her, he is the king of making people like him

I have such a soft spot for Tsukishima he's such a little shit (I'm not defending him I swear). Although there is a clear difference between what he & Ushijima do - Tsukishima is a brat for brat's sake, Ushijima is just blunt with the talent and experience to back it up, no posturing about it.
Tanaka's sister has got it goin' on. Happy pride month Yachi, agreeing blindly to whatever a pretty girl asks of you is so relatable. Also she's absolutely insane and I love that for her.
The strict parent thing is SO real you're so right how that works. The fact that you're in such shock every time the episode ends will never not be funny to me.

I have to defend Tsuki here: free periods in school were so rare, I wouldn't give one up even for people I liked (and I'm a nice person!).
So excited for you to get to know Yachi, who is utterly precious and has my favourite character arc this season. Her accidentally joining the volleyball club because she was distracted by a pretty senior is the most relatable to me any character on this show has ever been.
That is so fair, and yes I'm already so in love with Yachi's chracter

11:25 lots of characters have siblings! mostly we don’t hear about them unless they’re plot-relevant, but there are lists of who and how many siblings. it makes sense for most of the characters, if they act like an older or younger sibling. some of the families are a little spoilery though, so research at your own risk!

The way Kageyama can memorize the hand signals but not words made me wonder if he might be dyslexic, but naw, he's just volleyball-centric in his intelligence.
I also remember reading somewhere hoe someone analysed his personality and he seems to be on the spectrum.. it's very interesting

Seeing someone who gets this show is so fun, it's hilarious how you can't believe the episode is over. We'll keep saying it, welcome to haikyu. Yachi brings a good dynamic into the show as a volleyball layman.
The show does a lot of referencing to past characters and mini plots so just take note of everything. Be back for the next ep my guy it's like watching it again.
Yachi is amazing! I really love the themes the show brings through in these episodes that have nothing to do with volleyball

Actually Hinata gets scared about meeting new people, especially if they intimidate him. He even got scared seeing Asahi for the first time. That's why Kageyama was surprised about Hinata confronting Ushiwaka so calmly last episode. Hinata gets over that nervousness very quickly once they've established basic conversation.

oh, and about the title (direct sunlight), someone has probably mentioned this before, but a lot of the names in this series are really significant! the 'hi' (日) in hinata's name means sun, the 'kage' (影) in kageyama means shadow, and the 'tsuki' (月) in tsukishima means moon. if you combine the first characters in kageyama/hinata's given names (tobi/飛 for tobio, and shou/翔 for shouyou) you get 'hishou' (飛翔) which means soaring/flying! this is only a few examples but it's still super neat!

Actually, as a fellow undiagnosed ADHDer (and possibly Autistic as well), I've been wondering for quite some time as to why Haikyuu!! has always been my top comfort show, rewatching it far too numerous times already . . . turns out that after some digging up in Reddit and other articles, Haikyuu!! has been subtly representing the neurodivergent community. 🌈♾️❣️
Since you've mentioned that Hinata is an ADHDer (not liking studies, difficult to sit still, his veeeery energetic personality, and among others), there are other characters who are also neurodivergents---specifically Autistic, and it's actually headcanon. To name them, they're Kageyama (you've mentioned that he can't easily memorize stuff he's not passionate about, that's a sign, also his "King of the Court" problems is another manifestation as well as apparently missing some social cues), Kenma (being not that social and only hyperfixated in video games whilst having great observation skills), Ushijima (you'll observe more down the line, and actually his being literal and blunt is one of the signs) and there's one other in Season 4 Part 2. I'm not sure but I guess I missed a few others. 😅
Nevertheless, it feels great to have proper representation for us neurodivergents, even if it's only subtle in Haikyuu!! This also most likely explains as to why Shoyo and Tobio are my most fave Haikyuu!! characters, especially having finished the manga: they're the best representaton of me as an undiagnosed (there's actually a clinical impression from a psychologist so I only need to undergo some psychiatric assessments to be officially diagnosed) AuDHDer (Autistic + ADHDer), especially my innate competitive nature and other traits. 😊
Tsuki.."he an a..hole, not a leader."...they given you zero reason to like Tsuki. Everyone feels the same way first watch. Moon shines brightest in the dark.
because they gave us zero reasons to like Tsukki at the beginning, then good backstory and even better character development we love him so much now.

Shimuzu takes her job seriously because she sees how hard the boys work. If even one person was missing on the Karasuno team, they wouldn't be the great team they are. Even the 2nd years who never play have critical game deciding moments.
It definitely does feel like everyone it starting to have an important role!
Yachi was the last person I thought you'd be able to relate to so personally 😅 but it's really cool to see how all the characters (except Tsukki) seem to resonate so much with you. That's one of the beautiful things about this show! The writing is amazing and he has an uncanny way of making you love and root for every character.

I know you didn't ask, and you will probably forget about it in the future, but just as a clear guideline as you looked a bit confused when they add the san when approaching tsukishima:
san can be added to work like Mr. or Ms
sama is like Sir/Ma'am, can also be used on for example guests, judges, or religion as a few example.
kun is specifically for males, that are younger or equal age, a semi-formiddable way of addressing.
chan can be used for girls, or between small children, close friends, and lovers, sometimes even get used for boys, but it is inappropiate in that sense (just means little, like little Lachy)
tan means small, and is generally used for babys
senpai just means senior, can be used for senior- college, student and classmates
sensei is generally used for people who mastered their craft, like Teachers, Doctors, or even an old Swordsman. (just wild example for the last one)
hakase just is used for people with a doctor or phd
heika is used for Majestrys
denka is used for prince or princesses of the japanese imperial family
kakka is basically for people from the governement without royal status.
(additionally, Nii- or Nee- is used for Older brother/Sisters of a person or your own, relatives and very close friends, they can be added to the already existing suffixes, like niisan, niichan etc)
mostly used are only from san to sensei, maybe helps clear confusion in general for animes.
thoose are the suffixes of japan, they also have prefixes, but they are less important to understand.
There are also more cases, but it's most likely you won't hear them in anime, I mean I even already included some unlikely cases.
EDIT2: not here to defend tsukishima, he is an asshole, even knowing his backstory won't change that fact, but we love his cocky vibes sometimes, atleast when its pointed to the opponents
EDIT3: i need to say, used to not hearing the music by now, it feels like it's missing, but it's defintly better then the videos being striked for it, and i do enjoy being able to hear the voices easier.

Last Edit: almost forgot to add this, german dub is known, for adding stuff that wasn't there before, to make good jokes, for example in spongebob Mr.Krabs, and the so called Benjamin Blümchen have the same voice actor, and in that one scene were the flying dutchman was looking for krabs, and he said he wasn't mr krabs but someone else, they used the Benjamin blümchen instead as a name for the joke, long rant just to explain the following part i know, so in the scene were hinata was begging the coach for help at learning, in german he said, if he needs to describe himself as something on the volleyball field, he would be the post, now this alone may not sound as funny, but in germanny we say you are a vollpfosten (full-post) as a way to say that someone is a idiot.
Japanese voice acting is on top for the emotions, German is on top for the Laughs honestly.
Thanks for noticing Suga's tough love towards Tanaka and Noya. It goes with his nick name Devil in the disguise of and Angel. It started with the Light behind Suga and then pitch black after the 2nd part of his studing comment. Don't worry your going to get to see more sassiness and chaotic stuff from Suga later on as well

Going back to a comment i left on a previous video talking about how Suga and Tsuki's voice actors being former child actors and how uncommon they are in japan, yachi's voice actor is from the same company as them but the next generation of kids after them so at the time this episode aired she was the same age as yachi. I cant imagine what it was like for her to go to school in the days following this episodes release.

That moment you realize you're a few episodes into the 2nd season and Tanaka's sister has more character development than Ennoshita, Kinoshita or Narita who are active members of Karasuno's team.

Fully agreed here. I think Tsukki gets so much hate because everyone is just judging him by his cover. "He's not a leader at all", does he have to be one? Does that mean everyone must be a leader? While the reactions are great, sometimes I just find reactors watching things with just a single minded point of view frustrating.

I agree! Ushijima is just stating facts. And he is not saying it out of hatred or anything. Oikawa is what makes Seijoh good. The rest of the team are just average without him. I think someone mentioned this before, comparing how without Oikawa, Karasuno managed to defeat Aoba Josai even without their libero and ace. But when Oikawa played, Karasuno couldn't beat Aoba Josai even with 2 of their best players Asahi and Noya.
I think Ushijima and Kageyama are the same in the sense that they just spew facts and have no filter so they come off as hurtful. Except Kageyama also can't regulate his emotions so he's angry all the time. In his defense though, he's only angry at people who he believes aren't giving their best because he knows they can do better. Just compare how he glares at Hinata when he misses yet say "don't mind" to Yamaguchi.
Agree! Tsukki's an ass, lol! He's similar to Oikawa in a way that they act like an ass to hide their insecurities. I think Oikawa is just more likeable because he's funny. And despite being a hater, he acknowledges the actual ability of his opponents. Tsukki doesn't do that. We don't even get any internal monologues. So we base everything on his words and actions and his words and actions so far points to him being an ass, even to his best friend Yamaguchi. But I believe s2 is when a lot of people starts warming up to Tsukki. (Tbh though, I only started liking him in s4, lol!)
It's so funny that you mentioned that Hinata has undiagnosed ADHD. It's a running joke in the fandom. Some fans also say Kageyama is autistically coded. Yachi would definitely feel tired after interacting with them. And yes, I consider Hinata's friendliness as one of his superpowers. He's just not afraid to come up to anyone and start a conversation. I could never! 😂😂😂

Yachi is so darn cute! I relate to yachi when she says being around hinata is like being exposed to too much sun. That is the perfect way to express an introvert with an extrovert feeling. I think that the early episodes in this season go by super quick!

Tsukki and his boundaries 🤷♀️ I can’t wait for you to finally see Tsukki get developed as a character, both backstory and as a player. He’s my favorite character from Karasuno (yes, even from S1 because I love smart and sassy characters, and you just know there’s more to him right from their 3v3 match), and my second favorite in the whole manga after Kenma. I can never relate to your Tsukki hate, but I still find it funny because I know you’ll slowly change your mind 🤭

They're gonna expand on it (why is she a manager in the first place,etc) in the future but Shimizu's been there for a long time, she's just invested in them and the club.
Really like Yachi's introduction to the story - she is there to be a stand-in for the audience - since she knows nothing about Voleyball, it makes it easy to use her to explain things to.
Few things I wanted to bring up in this episode are about Hianta - when Yachi talks about how she feels as if she was in the sun for too long - that is a direct reference to Hinata's name (he is the Sun afterall).
Also you have already noticed but I will spell it out - while Hinata doesnt really have very high IQ - he has extremely high EQ(Emotional Intelligence). He seems to always feel out how someone is feeling or how to best talk to them and he doesnt even try :D
Naming Window - Yachi Hitoka: Yachi is a fairly common name, once again mainly there to show the "everyman" aspect of the character, it means Marshland. Hitoka is much more interesting. And one of the more complex ones. Hitoka is made from two symbols Hito and Ka (仁花). Hito means benevolence, compassion etc. and it is found in words like "virtue" or very fittingly "quiet unsociable person" (this is super rare word too so who knows if that was intended). Ka means "flower". Overall the name means "benevolent flower" or "single flower".
Its one of the more fun names to dissect.

I read from comment sections on other reactions on youtube (so don't quote me on that) that in Japan the grading system is different - so Hinata not scoring double digits on his tests is propably not as tragic as we think 😅🏐
In Japan scoring system runs on 0-100, it's just that a passing score is 40.
Tsuki would be tolerable if he was just competitive and used his sass on opponents, but the fact that he's constantly a jerk to his own team too and looking down on everyone around him just makes him a bully who's smart but sucks at communicating.
I definitely agree but I am eager to learn more about him hopefully!

bro got unreasonable beef with Tsukishima, it is starting to irritate me ngl. I hate Tsuki at first too but this is not a hateful situation so hating a character for no reason is so stupid.
Tsukishima helps both Kageyama and Hinata but sets boundaries about when he will help them then suddenly he's the worst person? If he really is the worst then he should have refused helping altogether. Hinata and Kageyama is the one requesting his help here, regardless of how he refused, that comment is out of pocket.
You don't call a person who is already helping you an asshole. You know why? because that's an asshole behavior
