An underrated thing about this episode imo is how Kuro is shown to have his own bad habits (like tsukki tho they do it differently they like to rile up people) but as soon as he felt like he crossed the line he went to Tsukki's teammates to apologise about it as he genuinely didnt want to cause any real troubles he has a sense of responsibility that i admire a lot 💪
Kuroo is a really good captain
Kuro is my favorite non Karasuno player in the entire series!
I'm surprised he doesn't get a girlfriend at all throughout the series tbh. But, I guess he was also the type to say, "No fun until work is done" in not so many words. So, I feel like he potentially decided against dating in general so it doesn't distract him.
I will admit tho, it's been a few minutes so, my memory is fuzzy
I love Kuroo’s influence on Tsukki. He knows how to match Tsukki’s attitude but also tries to mix very real, helpful advice into that smarmy banter with him.
Tsuki is basically the one and the greatest in anime representation of quiet, smart, overthinking, actually probably really emotional people, who are saving their energy for battles with the worst enemy of em all - themselves.
And other people don't get em, cause they don't trust anyone and don't really talk
This storyline is mad realistic, very accurately written and is hitting awfully hard, especially people who can relate (well, all of them are in this show, but it's not the point)
These seniors are all such good mentors. Asahi's very gentle about it, and Kuroo is deliberately annoying, but they're both genuinely giving Tsuki support he needs here. (Kuroo is then concerned enough about this random kid from another school to come and check in with his captain when he thinks he pushed him too far.) Just very wholesome all round.
One thing that is unrealistic about this show is not a single character is malicious lmao. Like there aren’t any actual villains if you know what I mean.
@@Oxymoron_i I think it's partly a genuine lack of malicious characters in the show's universe, but also that even minor characters who *could* be cast as malicious always still get enough character development that we can see where they're coming from, even if their opponents don't.
Just a small nuance is that, Kuroo wasn't trying to joke when he made the comment about Hinata getting ahead of Tsukki. It wasn't meant as a joke, but as a provocation! Bokuto even mentions that briefly in the scene. It's a small distinction but it feels really integral to fully understanding Kuroo's character.
He's someone who tries to read people, see what makes them tick, and poke their buttons to get things moving. It's the same thing as he did when he made the comment that got Tsukki to practice with them in the first place. Poked a button that made Tsukki pissed enough to join them for practice anyway just to prove Kuroo wrong.
So, with the comment about Hinata, Kuroo was genuinely surprised, because it wasn't a joke. It was Kuroo trying to poke Tsukki's buttons and figuratively light a fire under his ass so he'd stop lagging behind, if only to prove a point. Instead, Tsukki wilted, and Kuroo didn't see that coming, because he couldn't have imagined that Tsukki genuinely thought not that it was a matter of practice, but that Hinata was fundamentally, inherently better than him, and so there was no point anyway. That's why his provocation failed, because for someone who's a master at poking peoples buttons, even Kuroo didn't see that coming.
On the other hand, that also highlights an interesting aspect of Kuroo and Kenma's friendship! It's something Furudate actually employs a lot across his series, where friend pairs will in some way enhance each other's strengths by being opposites in some core way. Kenma has always struggled to understand people, and it's what made him end up so withdrawn and observant. Kuroo is the exact opposite, a natural shit-stirrer by nature of easily understanding how others tick. I love their friendship, so much.
I can't wait for the next episode though, man! I've been watching this reaction series every single week and this, this stretch of episodes is one of the things I was looking forward to the most, I can't WAIT for the next one, man. Tsukki is finally showing his true colors.

As you know I love yamaguchi, so I tend to focus on any screen time he has. I absolutely love the subtext when he is talking to Tsukki during the hill sprint, the "Go on ahead, I'll be okay." Yamaguchi is working his ass off to become better so that he can fight too, and Tsukki is okay just letting everyone get ahead of him.
I really wish this was a double episode!! And I am so sorry I missed your twitch stream! I love love love hearing all the things you have to say. I really think you are my favorite person to ever react to this show and I have watched a lot of them! So excited I can't wait for more!!!!
Oh, what a good observation! I'm like you, Yamaguchi is my favorite so every moment he's on screen has my full attention. I also like the momemt when he and Hinata are watching the other teams play and Ukai mentions how serve and block is the next best thing to service ace. Yamaguchi especially takes notice because serving is his main weapon right now, and you can see him start to think that it would be great if he could have a blocker partnering with him to support the serves that get picked up by the other team...

the image of tsukki being left behind by his teammates on the hill is so striking to me! him and yamaguchi have been tied at the hip for the whole series thus far, so using the hill sprint as a metaphor for his fear holding him back and seeing even yamaguchi go ahead without him is really tasty writing imo. like lachy said, showing and not telling!!
8:00 it's not just that "volleyballers only use their volleyball-shoes on the court", but also the japanese mindset of "outside shoes are for outside, and inside shoes are for inside".
for example at the entrance in schools, you'll see rows and rows of small lockers for shoes, where the students exchange their outside-shoes for their inside-shoes, and traditionally at the front-dooor in japanese homes, you have a depression in the floor where you're leaving your outside-shoes, so you don't carry the dirt into the home.
This is why season 2 is a beast of a season the character development is insane. The tsuki turn around is amazing and surprising but when you look back it shouldn't be because you end up kind of liking at the least respecting oikawa so why not anyone.
Always entertaining how you call things before they happen.

I really love this season's training arc, but the season 3 one 😏😏...
It felt for the longest that they focused on the other regulars on the team and pushed Tsukishima aside but now that we've set almost everyone on track on their own lanes NOW we shift focus on him and it comes at a perfect time to raise the stakes more during this arc

Character growth is my favorite thing in this show. Tsukki is a great example and the growth now comes in to the story later. Which is amazingly interconnected.
throughout the series and manga.. after this ep, I find out how much respectful Tsukki is towards Asahi more than any other senpais in Karasuno. He never laughs at ppl making jokes to Asahi unlike if the other senpai's being laughed at, he always so grateful for Asahi's compliments in the match (he takes that compliment in so much respect unlike if other senpais complimented him, meaning that he originally can't take compliment head on just like Kageyama), and *kinda spoiler* I really like the one particular expression Tsukki had when Asahi get through the 3 blockers in later on seasons while if it was other spikers like Hinata did that, we've always shown Tsukki's reaction was unpleasant (bc it's his job/position), but not with Asahi haha, Tsukki like his senpai😁
"You go on ahead, I'll be ok" - damn if that isnt beautiful illustration of the situation, everyone is working so hard, leaving Tsukki in the dust
Regarding the broccoli comment - its the nickname the guy from Shinzen has - cuz his hair looks like broccoli.
The thing with Tsukishima is that he feels like he goes through the motions - he clearly had a trauma at some point which soured his relationship but he still goes through the motions almost like its muscle memory. I think you could see a bit of his "real" self come out when he got baited by Kuroo - its almost like he is competetive but consiously holds himself back.
I wish I could say I am so looking forward to next episode but truth be told, I would be saying that until the end of the anime :D

p.s. idk about the green part of strawberries or watermelons, but eating the skin of a kiwi is soo beneficial actually! the skin of a kiwi has a lot of fiber and it's so good for the digestive track (I say it as a person with digestive problems🙃)

I love that Nekoma coach. sure he is helping his rival become strong but all that means is when the time comes they can meet in an official match. plus having a team that is a bit wild like Karasuno also helps his team as well. its a win win all round.

In another reaction video someone pointed out that the ones who took interest in Tsukishima (remember that Tsuki means 'moon') are from Fukurodani and Nekoma, respectively owls and cats, both nocturnal animals.
I know it's a coincidence but it's such a cool detail imho
ever since in s4 they utilised the hunger for food as a metaphor for passion for volleyball i've been thinking about how in it was shown in this arc - repeatedly, in facts - that tsukki doesn't eat enough (the scene with noya, the watermelons), but after he makes up his mind it's never mentioned again, and he seems to eat like evryone else. I love this idea.

So excited that we're finally here! Tsukki getting character development and reveals has been the slowest of burns, he's been there since the second episode but he's the one we least understand his reason to be on the court. One of my favorite character scenes is coming up very soon, I absolutely cannot wait!!

I can't wait for the next episode! Hope you will release it before the end of the weekend! The storytelling in Haikyuu is on such a high level - they plant the seeds of backstory for many characters throughout the whole series and build up the tension so well. This is why i enjoy re-watching this show - you always notice some clues that you missed before and your love grow.

Going back to the conversation about emotional intelligence, I think Hinata "backing down" here when Yamaguchi kind of asks him to talk to Tsukki is a yet another indicator of it. Hinata doesn't know Tsukki nearly as well as Yamaguchi does, he doesn't understand his issues, but he probably realizes that if anyone does, it's Yamaguchi, and his question urges Yamaguchi to take action too. While I'm not sure how conscious all of that is on Hinata's part (maybe not wholly), I think it's a really nice touch, especially since Hinata is the main character.

I've heard of people pickling watermelon rinds before, and my dad ate it right up to the leathery green part (he had no teeth so he literally couldn't eat that part), so its not that bizarre. eating the stems and skins is a choice many wouldn't make, but as long as it's not poisonous and the texture doesn't ick you out, go for it. extra fibre. get your money's worth. 😁👍

I really empathize with Tsukki probably because I saw my younger self to him. (The only difference was the insecurities for others, I can't understand being jealous of others just because they're better than me)
We're both stubborn and also have that defense mechanism of being sarcastic and harsh just to protect ourselves in others. People around me get mad at me that I didn't give my best on the things I do, what I gave is only satisfactory result, they don't know that I'm scared that if I do my best I'll just going to get disappointed at the end for not getting the result that I want. Because it happened to before many times. I got shot down by the people that I want to be proud of me again and again until I became numb and didn't care anymore. My insecurity is not because someone's better than me but because I'm not enough to be the best even do I gave everything. Thankfully I have my bestfriend who straightened me up and my godfather (bless his soul) that shows me that I am more than enough and that failing is never the answer to go back down. That I need to do what's best for me not for others.
I remove the stems from strawberries and sometimes eat the green part of the watermelon (unless you mean the skin!). Kiwis? Skin on or not at all, any other way is too much of a bother. Bonus fruit: the only part of an apple I don't eat is the stem.

tsukki used to be a naive good boy,, he started to like volleyball because his older brother whom he believes is a regular player of the volleyball club and he admires him. tsukki starts to change into a cold and mature person after he sees his brother at a match, he sits on top as a cheerleader and not a regular player that he always prides himself on, tsukki starts to change and doesn't like volleyball too much because he's afraid of falling, so tsukki always saying things to his group like he doesn't put much effort in volleyball but actually he cares a lot about volleyball.
