Being Coloured is not homogeneous...Coloureds from KZN for example have no Khoi or San ancestry..They are descendants of ZULUS and Europeans with a touch of Indian..They dont speak Afrikaans..They speak English and ZULU as first/second languages.
Thers ppl actual tribes in namibia and even zimbabwe khoi tribes how is ther not sum khoi blood in kzn tho and the khoi is the oldest so the zulu should also have khoi in him
Lmao. Heritage Day. I remember being a Grade 3 child in 2003, having to go home and ask my parents about coloured culture for a class presentation. Cue the confusing and varied narratives. My mother felt very comfortable to open up to me about our white ancestors and where they came from, but whatever it is that she told me did not sit well with me. It felt like an untruth. I could not go to school and present to white people on a whiteness I knew nothing about and so I asked my father... My father then proceeded to say: "Coloured culture? Oh that's easy. We drink, we smoke, we swear, we fight." Needless to say I did not present that day, but I thought that was very funny. It's good to know that I'm not the only one who went through such things. Working on a follow-up with a few more interesting takes exploring the Malay side of the culture and getting deeper with the slavery dynamics and the Anglo-Dutch conflict of ideas. Thanks for the support.

We should be preserving our memories and telling the stories of our heritage, though. DNA tests are fun, but doesn’t tell the stories of the people who added the pieces to the genetic puzzle. There’s some great work being done to catalogue coloured genetics so that we can develop better therapies for diseases like cancer and better pre-empt development of hereditary diseases. I’m happy to hear that there are people adding their dna to the pool.
I am 74years of age and I traced my ancestry through my DNA tests death,marriage,birth, diamond digging permits,slave records, certificate and what i saw and heard.i know i descended from the khoisan and the Griqua clan and from a st Helena diamond digger maternally.Paternally i have the Malay slave that married a Danish adventurer.i am proudly coloured and truely South African and first nation

I come from a Cape Malay Coloured family and we were always told about our slave ancestor who came from South East Asia, South Asia, Madagascar etc. And our Khoi San Ancestry. My grandmother always said her family never wanted to speak about our family history. In my opinion "Coloured Culture" is like you said, our foods, Stam mielie en boontjie(Samp and Beans), Cape Malay Breyani, Curry and roeties, Koesisters, Mary Anne Biscuits etc. Also not forgetting "Kaapse Klopser", Malay Choirs etc. Coloured Culture also shows how we celebrate Christmas and Eid(Labarang as we call it) from the rest of the country as well as the world. This thing is easy, look yourself in the mirror, if you look Malay then celebrate you South East Asian heritage, if you look mixed of a black and white then obviously your dad was European then celebrate the European heritage. If you look Khoi then celebrate Khoi heritage.

I find it very tough celebrating Heritage day because our Khoi customs are not even in those categories, also it makes me overthink and imagine what happened in 1652
Ahhhh yes heritage day... I never knew anything about my heritage. When I moved from cape Town to Gauteng I was like wow everyone looks amazing.... And that made me sad too. I still don't know my heritage... I know there's some French and Irish. And who knows what else
An ancestry DNA test is our only solution to celebrate our multicultural heritage. It is fascinating as it is multifaceted. We are clearly citizens of the world which makes us incredibly unique as a people.

I see your problem. But there is no solution really. Your culture is South African culture. If you're totally honest about it your culture is closest to white South African culture. But there is a political position that many young middle class coloureds have adopted of "I am black because I am coloured". I don't agree with that.
your opinion matters not, as there are many different coloureds...capetonians and afrikaans speaking coloureds are from the west coast and mixed with koi...the coloureds on the east coast are mixed with the zulu, and thats traceable....so dont be so delusional as this guy in the video is...yes some of them can trace their roots to europe, but thats the English speaking for the most part...the dutch related seemed to have loved the koi, then xhosa hence the many different types like the malay and koi mixtures , malay and white and malay and black in smaller cases...so yes some are more mixed to the black side, some to white and some to asian...dont box coloureds they are the starting of a new world wide tribe and in another thousand years the earth will be more coloured and mixed tribes than any other race, it is the inevitable evolution of man... thats why you coloured people must fight for your right to be free of these stereotypes and embrace the peak of evolution through hybridization...Its evolution and thats why you are marginalized, dont look at the past to much as the future is more jmportant...so be strong, as the best is yet to come...and remember that race doesnt matter, we live in these bodies temporarily, but we are more than that.
@@techmansa there are very few coloured tribes. Yes there are Cape Malay and Griquas. But most people don't belong to one of those groups. I am really referring to Coloureds in Cape Town. Plenty of Coloureds, maybe most Coloureds are mixed with Khoi. But mixed with Khoi doesn't make you Khoi when you're living in a city and speaking English and Afrikaans. Your culture is English and Afrikaans. Many Afrikaners have a French name. That doesn't make them French.
There is rarely a difference in culture and stuff between us Coloureds from P.E and the Cape, our food is like literally the same plus we also huge on the Islamic religion here

The best thing for coulored people is to do a ancestry dna test, my daughter did hers .The results was very interesting.
