    Will spend weeks getting body panels just so. Sees some wrinkles in the headliner and says ehhh.... Those are ok! Just found that funny. Guess we all have those things that get us more than others. Great to see the progress continue. Keep it up.

    I may have not mentioned it before but, I have done autobody and frame repair for 46 years before retirement. And I was glad when manufacturer's came out with the one piece "hard board" fuzzy headliner. They were always a real blessing in disguise as I also hated any cloth headliners. Your body "re-working" is spot on. I have also had to re-work Chinese replacement sheet metal panels. Especially when working on insurance jobs, the ins. companies never paid enough to make those panels look right, till one day when I put the panels on (to make a point) to let them see what the crappy replacement parts really look like that they ordered. After that fiasco they started ordering "new" manufacturers sheet metal, it was way cheaper and looked much better. I commend you sir on your meticulous attention to detail, and I loved every episode produced. When I worked in a classic shop I was glad I had all the time in the world to do the job right the first time. Did you know that Japan and China would buy all the old worn out dies from U.S. car companies to make the parts that they sell back to us? You get an "A" plus from me. Congratulations on a job well done!

    Barry, no idea why you'd bother with the older style headliner - just a huge pita and Mustang to Fear's setup is so much better in every way - looks, more headroom, etc... but we love you for doing it nonetheless :) !

    Great video. I have seen headliners installed most of these installs use the heat gun before final gluing. Just a thought. Material expands with heat and contracts when cooling. Your process is great information.

    Looks fantastic. It honestly made me sick to my stomach to take mine out because it was FLAWLESS and the factory matting looked like it was installed yesterday. Had to get to the rust though. The sun will tighten that right up.

    If you cut the white material on both sides about 1/2 inch it allows you to stretch the seams.

    I use the medium size binder clips (a lot) to hold the headliner in place instead of windlace. It allows you to make adjustments more easily. I get the entire headliner clipped down before applying any contact cement.

      This is my approach to it also, my question is how do I avoid the wrinkles at the bows bend I'm worried to keep cutting back... what do you think? Should I cut until it doesn't wrinkle up when stretched, whats the original headliner look like installed.

    • @FE428Power
      @FE428Power ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@codyblack9157 I cut back the bow sleeves a little at time until the wrinkles are gone at each bow. I will normally ding the metal above the rod hole so the sleeve will slide down as much as possible.

    • @codyblack9157
      @codyblack9157 ปีที่แล้ว

      @FE428Power I will give that a shot! I thought using adhesive on the first go was risky so am doing the test fit and am seeing some wrinkle just around the bows I will try that first thing in the am, have you had to use a heat gun, does it actually work, and how much.

    You obviously did your best and it makes you wonder how the guys on an assembly line knocked these out back in the day. Do you think it would make any difference if you had a helper (one stretch and one install the pinch flange seal)?

      After watching a number of videos about reassembling the windows in my '66, I thought, "some old woman did a couple a hundred a shift of these back in the day." So I put the door together and back apart a dozen times so that when it's painted I won't damage it. I can do it now in under fifteen minutes. Perhaps this is something that could benefit from such an effort.

    Is there really such a thing as a perfect wrinkle free headliner!

  • @bustbeel1

    Looks good too bad I was not there but I have learned over time anyway on Mopars the material tightens over the weeks and months after installed.

  • @Freejohnsilkyputty
    @Freejohnsilkyputty 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    You need to use and trust your glue more. Glue is all you need to tighten that up. Also a heat gun or steamer. That softens the liner and when it retracts on cooling, it’ll pull the wrinkles out

    What did you do at the bottom of the sail panels along the package tray? Not where the hooks are.......but right beside the package tray. There is no way to attach it to anything to keep it tight.

    Question: In regards to the exposed metal that has surface rust, how important is it to sand, prime and paint that metal?

    • @JoDaddysGarage
      @JoDaddysGarage  ปีที่แล้ว

      It’s not a bad idea. A lot of it depends on where you live. But a light coat of surface rust is a good thing in most cases. At least inside the car.

    • @JoDaddysGarage
      @JoDaddysGarage  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      That is windlace. It’s the piece that overlaps the pinch welds. They come in a long strip. I just cut my old one into short pieces.
