      Raptor HanselJolteon dude I don't know. 1. He jumps of the wall super early and reads the bounce perfectly to barely get it around the corner, if his teammate stayed on the wall it would have been a lost 50/50 most likely so really smart and good thinking to beat him.

    I swear to god im going to show this video to every single friend i have that plays rocket league lmao. Personally i think im pretty good at positioning but i do make some obvious mistakes. Last season, I couldnt get passed gold 3, this season, I cant get passed platinum 3, and i will for sure be showing this to my 2s partner who is pretty good, but makes a few mistakes in rotating, of course, not all are his fault, just as many are mine. This is what I was explaining to a couple of guys last night, using a strategy I call cycled rotation, while utilizing the zones you just mentioned. A lot of people seem blind to these ideas and I try to recreate my teammates with every random player I come across, since most seem oblivious to these strategies. I'm glad to finally see this laid out in detail good stuff.

    Worth mentioning if you're following your teammate on the attack, if he loses the ball you're very vulnerable to a long shot from their defense to go sailing over your head, you have to be hyper aware of whether he still 'has' the ball or if he's 'lost' it - you have to anticipate when he's going to lose it and get your ass back to goal or interupt their counter to buy time quicksmart

    On a real note sunless, thank you so much for this video. Its so easy to understand but covers a lot of pretty depthful concepts, I actually watched this when I was about silver 2 or 3, and im a plat now just grinding out the mechanics to get myself higher. I can honestly say this video played a LEADING ROLE in my ability to get WINS and playing with my team, knowing when someone has a better hit or a play set up. I kinda feel like this took me from feeling like I was the backbone of my team by sweating, ballchasing, and trying to score awesome goals to actually BEING the backbone of my team from always being in a position to defend and counterattack, being there for passes or if I can tell my teammate has messed up. Now... to figure out how to not get scored on when I'm upfield from MY play, on my recovery, and get hit with the painful open net. Someday (; thank you sunless!

    I dont agree to the example at 3:50 because when you push there and dont score you and your teammate are in the same area with none of you having boost. Easy goal for the opponents imo
    Still very nice video:)

    • @blacbrick7686
      @blacbrick7686 7 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      You can do pretty much anything except high ariel's with 20-30 boost and could have easily hit the ball to a corner to buy time for him and his teammate to collect boost and reposition. So pushing there is the more correct choice here at higher level plays. (chances are lower level players will just hit it straight to the goal without doing anything like dribbles, flicks, fakes, etc.)
      Do not underestimate the 12 boost pads in the middles when u r not near a 100 boost pad

    • @SunlessKhan
      @SunlessKhan  7 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      Like BlacBrick pointed out, it's not a scoring opportunity. It's simply about making a challenge on the ball to buy time for your teammate.

    • @gtrrohit5078
      @gtrrohit5078 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      There are many different ways of positioning, this is just the stay safe and the basics of positioning. You can be risky at times and you can not rotate if you have a HUGE amount of pressure where the opponent has no boost. There is a lot of ways to be creative with positioning.

    • @casetheace2262
      @casetheace2262 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I 100 percent agree, pushing with no boost here is the wrong call. The opponent has full boost and a bouncing ball close to him and just has to get by you any way to be left with an empty net. If you fall back for boost you will be in a perfect shadowing position with full boost and it will take a great move on net to score. Challenging is a terrible idea, against even a decent opponent you will get a touch only half the time because of how many options they have, and could still get dunked for an easy goal anyways.

    I'm mid-diamond, and my mindset in regards to rotations is that - while myself, and other players around my skill level know some pretty advanced mechanics (dribbles, flicks, ceiling shots, hook shots, flip-resets, air-dribbles, Kuxir's, etc) if you properly rotate, you don't need to even utilize this Swiss-Army knife of mechanics.
    The two issues that I face are when it's my turn to rotate in, being unsure of myself as to how long I should stay in the play. I'm constantly asking myself "Do I stay in until my boost is depleted?", "Do I stay in until there's no play left?", "Do I just ball-chase for a set amount of time, then rotate out?"
    My other issues is with my team-mates rotations. I typically like to leave them enough space to pull off whatever play they're trying to achieve, while putting myself in a position to receive a pass, but more often than not, my team-mates rotate out to grab a full-boost, then rotate back in right on my ass, giving me the feeling of being rushed, then when my rushed play gets shot down, they typically score because my team-mate is too close to me, and together we're covering less of the field because of this.
    I hate to make this seem like it's my team-mates fault, as I'm equally responsible for the direction of the game as every other player in the game, but I honestly have no idea how to adapt to that kind of playstyle. The only solution I could think of is to play extremely passive, and play to them rather than with them. If that makes sense.

    I think awareness should be number one, it kinda covers everything. While it may be vague, being aware of what your teammate is doing is probably the best bet. If he’s off fighting in the corner, you shouldn’t be in there with him - you should be anticipating an enemy clear or a possible pass. Great video, I hope this reaches a wide audience.

    Hey man, just wanna say thanks.
    I've always been a casual rocket league player, like, after work and stuff just for fun. But i achieved gold 3 div4 and it was starting to piss me off that i couldnt be able to pass that.
    I watched your video yesterday and decided to put the concepts in practice today. I was at gold 3 div 2 and EASYLY arrived to platinum 1. I mean, i know that this dont represent shit for high ranks players, but i got surprise how the concepts in this video REALLY WORKS.
    I played about 10 or 11 games in a row and didnt lose a single one! At the beggining i was like "nah... That must be a coincidence". Turns out it wasnt.
    Anyway... Your video absolutely was a turning point in my game, thank you.

    I’m new to rocket leauge, only been playing for a couple months. But I grew up playing hockey my whole life and positioning and spacing is a lot alike in rocket league and hockey, I’ve been trying to play that way sense bronze 1. Always thought I had an edge because of my positioning until about silver 1 or 2 when I realized a lot of other players play that way in the higher ranks. I’m now gold 1 and I owe a lot of it to positioning and spacing I learned playing hockey! Great video!

    I have no technical skills and went from Gold I to Platinum II in 3v3 thanks to the rotation explained in episode 9. Many people are still blindly chasing the ball at this level. Air Dribbling looks nice but is very predictable. I always expect my opponent to lift the ball at the last moment and try to block that. Feels much easier to block than direct shots where you have no time to react.

  • @weagles_fan7467

    This speaks to me like not much else has about this game. I'm Plat 2, and lost count of the number of times I've been told I'm lucky when I beat someone. Especially in 1v1.
    No, I can't do all those fancy things. So I make up for it with being able to read what the other person is doing and block them, then counter once they've over-committed. But of course, since I'm not hitting crazy half-field aerials and jumping off walls, it's just luck to the people that have no concept of positioning. ;)
