To be honest I've never traded even once in thousands of hours of play so I won't miss it, but I am still concerned though because it just feels like the game is in an overall dive. For like a year it's just been grind ranked and sometimes they might actually put in a fun LTM that you only see for a few days and then not again for months. The thing that has kept me wanting to play has been the Esports/content creators but even that is starting to get stale for me. I wouldn't mind the lack of content if we had updates for UE5 but its just getting hard to believe that its anywhere near done. I get epic is a business and they want money but it just isn't sustainable for them to remove features while pushing profits.
I don't know what else beside playing ranked are you expecting from the game? What an update should have to satisfy you? If you don't enjoy the core gameplay of this game maybe stop hoping for something that doesn't exist and stop playing the game? Majority of the people are just playing the ranked. I don't know why they should cater to the people that don't want to play.
Thanks Sunless! I honestly needed a good laugh man. I don't trade as much as other players per se but it's still a really fun experience and it's honestly adds a personable feature to the game. I've literally met friends because of them wanting to trade items and it's genuinely fun with the right people. I know I have extra items I'd be more than happy to give away at this point too. Too bad most companies choose greed first and the players last. I hope Item Shop sales PLUMMET in the coming weeks/months. In any case, thanks Sunless. Don't ever change brother! :)
Fr, this is worse than I could imagine. As someone who loved the trading aspect, this video is a punch in the gut. Guess I won’t be coming back to RL anytime soon.
It’s completely unbelievable how tone deaf they have been. And I don’t think anyone should expect ANY further communication from them about this. They’re going to do it. It’s sad. They genuinely don’t care about us anymore. They haven’t communicated with us in a Long Time. GGs, I’ll miss this game.
@@trumanbadra8003 why does everyone say this and miss the point. the point is that the decision to remove trading shows that epic doesn't care for the longevity of the game and that rocket league probably wont hold out much longer. Trading is one of the reasons but thats the main reason why people care so much.
While I don’t trade a lot, it was nice to know I could buy something for 100 credits exactly at the moment I wanted it. Also some Halloween/Christmas items are very rare and only release once every couple years. Plus there is literally no reason to do it except for more money
As some one with small kids who don't play RL as much as I do. I give a lot of items to my kids. I have been rocking the same octane huntress and Infinium's for about 3 years now. I don't change my car at all. My kids love getting the spoils and I wont be able to give them the tradable stuff I get. That being said, trading is a liability. People get their accounts hacked, lose their stuff, or get in some bad shady trades. Removing trading removes that. It also removes the need for support staff to assist hacked accounts in restoring their items. Pysonix could save hundreds of thousands in support staff by removing the feature and if your account gets hacked your stuff remains intact. I understand it will destroy the trading community that has setup a websites and services to sell items in-game but honestly... No one is obligated to keep another industry up at their own detriment.
The remove everything in their path training, custom matches, even casuals, but they will never remove the item shop, because that is their greediness😞
Im not suprised, i didnt think it would be this severe, but how do you take a community based game, and remove how the community interacts When i first started in this game i would spend days scrolling through trades trying to get a good inventory without spending a ton of money because i was in school, I listened to a lot of good music while doing that, now knowing other people wont get the opportunity to build an inventory on budget by being smart and retrading items, its saddening, genuinly
My friends and I would spends hours after high school trading on Xbox scrolling through the lfg for trades and checking spreadsheets for prices. We liked racing each other to going from nothing to something like bmds and tw zombas and dracos. Removing crates and adding the item shop killed any semblance of an item economy and now it’s just actually going to die. Entire communities and hobbies around trading and collecting will just be gone now.
@est727xx5 no one ever made you do it, you could have just searched for matches and ignored the items, but taking away trading for those who like it is different
Bro... I literally almost cried. First trading, and now TRAINING!? My goodness did you have me in the first half. On a real note though, it's sad to see what this game has slowly come to. You can feel the shift over the years how it's not as much about us the players, our fun and experience in game. To now trying to benefit the people at the top of the pyramid. Rocket league will always have a special place in my heart, but it's just not the same.
@@scubasteve6175 I dont even trade. Its more like a bunch of billionares scraping the last possible profit out of an already dying game that grosses me out. Its like a king going through and looting dead bodies for change in a warzone.
I don't understand why they don't just create a community market like Steam has and take a percentage cut. Literally can just take money for doing nothing.
I stopped caring about items when they removed crates and keys. There’s no fun in just buying an item for its price. It’s pricey! But when gambling, you could get an expensive item for a low cost. If not, you can trade with someone for something you like. Or trade various normal items in-game for a better one and such. But now there’s no point. I would care for the Rocket Pass subscription if there were crates and keys, otherwise, not spending a dime on the game anymore.
LMAOO you got my boy Buckeye at 7:15 😂😂 But fr my hope for the future of this game keeps getting chipped away with every new announcement. They better be planning something big SOON or this game is toast
Yeah, I'm not so sure tenacity... I've heard that they're just doing it to add rocket league to fortnite. So I'm basically quitting after I just came back almost 3 - 4 years of Epic destroying me over and over again.
I’m going to miss trading. When the game became f2p, I played mostly because of the trading. I liked being able to show off my items to other players. I quit playing mostly because of school but I still kept my eyes on the trading economy. I’ve only spent $5 on the game and I was able to get beta nugget and a bunch of other stuff by trading up. My dream item is alpha cap but ever since the white octane came to the item shop, prices dropped and will never recover. It’s sad that I’ll for sure never get alpha cap.
This is easily the best sunless vid I've seen since rl stereotypes I'd love to meet this man and find out what goes on inside his head to come up with these absolute gems of content
As heartbreaking as this is, I kinda see where theyre coming from. We've all heard/used OPMarket religiously and the more we use OPMarket, the less Epic makes money. Still sucks that they're removing the p2p trading though
They are such a money making company, doesn't take any account from players and just goes ahead with the ideas even if everyone hates it and will lose customers from the game because people will stop buying item shop items anymore...
What is actually sad is a bunch of players don't understand the impact it will cause to the game, being selfish and saying "it doesn't matter for me" while a portion of the playerbase will leave the game killing rocket league even more. The whole purpose of trading is to get a cool item and use to play, now everyone will have to wait countless days for the item they want to appear in the shop and it will be overpriced.
the only thing i think they could do to make this change somewhat okay is if they cut all prices in half or if they added a way to find a item you want directly and buy it without hoping you get it as a random blueprint drop but regardless they are at a lose lose situation
No. There is nothing you can do to substitute the trade between players, except making every item available at any time for a fair price, and that will not happen. So... Go fuck yourself, Epic Games.
One of the responses to the tweet said they were hoping for trading to be replaced with an in game auction house so you could set up trades and they could get accepted anytime with no risk of scam since the trades would be set up in advance. This is sadly too optimistic, if Epic had thought of a way to remove scams, make trading easier and automatic as your trades could get accepted anytime, they would have said something about it.
I have a feeling they are going to roll this back and implement something less severe than removing trading. There’s no way this amount of backlash will go unanswered
Giant corporations aren’t stupid, they know that the content creators are the smallest audience and the overwhelming vast majority of players don’t care and will just buy things from the item shop. Epic will deliberately kill half their player base to make an extra 5% in sales…they don’t care at all about perception. Gaming companies are the root of all evil.
You had me scared so bad at the beginning, I've got 480 hours in game and rougly 35 of those are in actual matches, the rest being made up almost entirely by freeplay and dribbling courses. This is not a competitive game to me, it is a skill toy and the only reason I play is it's fun to make the car do cool shit. Thank god training is staying! Removing trading sucks, there've been a few cool items I wanted that weren't possible to get anymore, so I bought them from other people. I use bakkesmod as well, but it feels cool to actually have the things. It's gonna be really disappointing if in a few months from now I see some cool item I missed out on, and knowing that there's zero chance of me getting it.
I know the majority of this video was satire however the response of a lot of the players you talked to do not represent the entire player base. A lot of players around GC aren't as invested in items and trading because their focus is on improving. I myself can relate to the sentiment as when I used to play I primarily focused on competitive usually sitting around GC1 - GC2. Despite this I still loved the trading and items as it spawned a whole side of the community that was there to have fun. It was a break from grinding ranked and to indulge in human interaction between peers and friends to talk about the exciting nature of items. This is all gone after 5th Decemeber. And I know that a lot of people who said they didn't care about trading, or items, or crates will find themselves romanticising the days when these features shaped the community.
I'm mostly new to this community, and I've loved the game for the past year, the only competitive game I've played long hours since Halo Reach. I've never traded anything with anyone in RL, so I don't think I'm losing out on much personally. It's ultimately all cosmetics, since the real value of the game is in its gameplay. Its complexity entirely dependent on your ability to play it, it truly feels like practicing a real sport! I don't see much need to change that up, but I will agree that one of its negative aspects is how little the devs seem to communicate tho.
@@RoddSantiago "fooling themselves" lmfao and how is that? They literally had monetary value, and some items even increased over time. Moronic tone deaf take Every content creator on the platform has a $5000 boost. Do you think they all "fooled themselves" into thinking it was worth that much, or do you think Epic is just taking this money away from them now for no reason? It's like arguing CSGO skins were a waste of money and just "fooled" the player base into thinking they had value. Like how dumb can you be? My inventory would probably be worth like $25 and I have never had any plans to sell, so this does not affect me monetarily in any way, and even I can see how stupid this take is.
I agree that the real value of the game is in its gameplay. However, this is clearly not what Epic believes, or they would release updates that would improve the gameplay experience. It's clearly only about the $$$$$
Sunless you gave me a heart attack bud I say this with the utmost respect hoping to convey trust and love for you and your content I watch tons of RL content but yours tends to be my favorite for information To have an unusually extended portion about them removing training after already hearing from multiple creators about them planning to remove trading was predominantly and likewise intensefyingbly frustrating It immediately made me believe it had happened after it continued for so long and all I wanted to do was uninstall the game and never look back without finishing the video It genuinely felt like it was the end of RL for me Maybe the intensity at which the bit felt real was magnifying how scared I’ve become for Epic Games and their decisions on the game I may never know But Sunless, from one of your forever fans and all time supporters that was mean lol Love you man Please don’t scare me
This is getting rough man, when are they gonna make Supersonic Acrobatic Rocket Powered Battle Cars II so they can make Rocket League again but without all these dogshit changes from Epic
the problem isn’t that they’re removing trading (although for many this is detrimental). It’s the fact that they have absolutely no respect for the community. If you give them an inch they’ll take a mile.
Exactly! Slippery slope kind of deal. If they remove seemingly such a massive part of the community, which I didn’t even realize was that big to begin with, who’s to say they won’t ACTUALLY start removing things like training and remove the ball? 😂 Maybe we’ll get a permanent gridiron mode, sponsored by the NFL with big billboards on all sides of the map, etc
I always knew Epic would kill this game... ive been saying it since they bought it but i never thought it would be so blatantly disrespectful to the community... if you love rl tell everyone you know to never buy anything from RL store
@@itspersonal1030 he has changed it, before it was a default fortnite skin crying which was one of noahsnoah’s thumbnail’s that he just took and added the rocket logo to
I appreciate this video more than you'll ever know. Trading for me isn't something where I'm out on the wild trying to catch them all like a ratchet H** and STDs, it was special moments like giving my closest friends wheels or boosts, or my nephews birthday last year when he told me a week before "have you seen the 20xx" and then "it looks so good in titanium white" so I asked him "it's ugly to me, what goal explosion would even match that decal?" ... The look on his face when I told him to give me 3 sets of wheels for credits and I actually put up Dueling Dragons in titanium white and that hideous animated decal. You can't put a price on it... I mean you can, it was 130 exotics but the reaction was well worth it. Epic doesn't care about those kind of stories though because they literally fired 830 people, 2 months before Christmas. 🎉
We've been watching this happen to every major online game over the last 5-10 years now. Its "just trading" now, eventually it'll be more features people enjoy. They'll kill RL1, then RL2 will be arena keys you can buy to play ranked matches and monetizing everything they can think of.
The divide between those who trade and those who do not is due partly to the fact that new accounts are required to purchase something upwards of $10 before even being allowed to trade. Thus the item shop is the genesis of players with items now
btw they did say the reason for the removal, at least on steam: "We’re making this change to align with Epic’s overall approach to game cosmetics and item shop policies, where items aren’t tradable, transferrable, or sellable. This opens up future plans for some Rocket League vehicles to come to other Epic games over time, supporting cross-game ownership."
It all doesn’t seem bad at all! I dont understand people complaining about it. There ist nothing wrong with it at all due to people just going freeplay to practice the same thing over and over again and even tho they can do it perfectly fine. This will force People to q Ranked or Cas more often = More players playing = Shorter Q times and SBMM would be cleaner. Trading is just a bad thing in general period. Has to many flaws example is abusing glitches and scams to make people upset due to greed. They should make the Itemshop biggen and for people that do pack opening more often or like them they can buy boxes or grind for them each lvl up gives u a box… man if i could just talk to someone about it :((
I just searched up rocket league again to see the state of one of my favourite games I used to play, eager to see the community still thriving and game getting better. Who tf thought of this idea
I love that they are experimenting with new hitboxes at the same time they are taking trading off. You won’t be able to trade items for the hitbox you want.
Partnering with epic was the WORST thing they ever did... they killed trading for a lot of us when the item shop came in, literally making our items lose an insane amount of value over night and now they're literally gonna be worth absolutely nothing. Thanks RL we had some good times but i'm done at this point...
This update will also kill the "self accomplishment" part of the game. You're now forced to spend cash instead of time. Playing (getting better/more skilled, maybe making/playing with friends) while grinding out those golden eggs/chests and trading them for a item you wanted, will make the item much more worth to you, since it took time and skill to get it. There's also FEAR OF MISSING OUT. You can get any item anytime when trading, meanwhile with the shop, they can just bump the items price up and ppl will be forced to buy it since they don't know when or if it will be available again. In general, a very bad anti consumer update which will kill active game time as well.
As someone who has played rocket league since it's original release on steam it doesn't bother me too much. I have accumulated a massive surplus of inventory from all that gameplay up until now. But the part that does bothers me the most is that my friends and family now have no way of getting these items I don't even care for. Giving them something they believed was cool is that part that RL just hurt in my heart. Now those items are locked behind a paywall and events. But for what? Can I get some new game modes? Can the game get better support? Bleed the community dry of money while slowly killing the game is just insane at this point.
I lucked out and pulled one of the first pairs of tw hypnotiks when they first came out back in 2018. Held on to them hoping for a potential good investment. Instead, Epic adds a store and now wants to get rid of trading. They said screw the player base economy, lets get as rich as we can. On top of that, the majority of good items you can get from drops are stuck behind the stupid "blueprint" paywall. Epic portraying greed at it's finest.
wow, knowing all these awful changes to our game has been pretty much all so that some guy can buy a super yacht, makes the pain of my inventory becoming worthless even more painful
10:39 "directly benefitting Epic" see here is the common missconception. Louis Rossman recently said that in a video: we are thinking more and more "by using their service they are benefitting so they should THANK me for using their service", not just Rocket League but in general, all kinds of services. But this is not true. Trading does NOT directly benefit Epic Games, since the only thing they benefit from are the first purchases of credits to START trading. But once a trader has their first credits, he won't buy from Epic ever again. He may buy items with these credits, but a decent trader can also sell these items for AT LEAST the same amount of credits they bought it for. Once these credits are inside the trading system, they cannot be removed again. By going for a closed item store without trading they get ALL the money... So no, WRONG! Epic does NOT directly benefit from trading.

My dude, this is what the game has been ever since they stopped working on nonstandard maps.
Can I have those items? Epic is Wetnarwhal270

Becoming a goat farmer doesn’t seem like such a bad option now
The remove everything in their path training, custom matches, even casuals, but they will never remove the item shop, because that is their greediness😞
Im not suprised, i didnt think it would be this severe, but how do you take a community based game, and remove how the community interacts
When i first started in this game i would spend days scrolling through trades trying to get a good inventory without spending a ton of money because i was in school, I listened to a lot of good music while doing that, now knowing other people wont get the opportunity to build an inventory on budget by being smart and retrading items, its saddening, genuinly
Same bro, even tho I only trade like during a phase for a few weeks every few months it’s still a genuinely good experience.
@@zteir Personally I always hated trading.
My friends and I would spends hours after high school trading on Xbox scrolling through the lfg for trades and checking spreadsheets for prices. We liked racing each other to going from nothing to something like bmds and tw zombas and dracos.

And what about old rocket pass items? Are we just never gonna be able to get them again?
@@BrandonByers7no idea man, will probably be random BP drops in the future. Psyonix seemed keen to ride off into the sunset tbh before F2P hit.

I hope you’re right but I’m way less convinced that they care about RL when they have fortnite
This amount of backlash will go unanswered

The problem is some people spent huge amount of money on some cosmetics fooling themselves thinking it was an investment
@@RoddSantiago "fooling themselves" lmfao and how is that? They literally had monetary value, and some items even increased over time. Moronic tone deaf take

Rocket League was dead the minute Psyonics got their $2 Billion blood money.
Thus the item shop is the genesis of players with items now
This video just got recommended to me so I got scared they were removing training after they already removed trading
U deadass had me terrified at the beginning of this video that Rocket League removed training as well.....
btw they did say the reason for the removal, at least on steam: "We’re making this change to align with Epic’s overall approach to game cosmetics and item shop policies, where items aren’t tradable, transferrable, or sellable. This opens up future plans for some Rocket League vehicles to come to other Epic games over time, supporting cross-game ownership."
As someone who made my first money online trading rocket league items back when I was 13, this is sad to see. But nothing is forever I guess.
Doesn’t matter. The new hitboxes are in rocket pass.
Sunless fr scared me thinking training would be removed, I would literally quit RL.

Also on their discord. Moderators and devs had alt accounts to try and ease tension while also deleting messages
i know the reason, its stupid but it was for fortnite the rocket racing rewards when you rank up
As someone who has played rocket league since it's original release on steam it doesn't bother me too much.
You really had me thinking I read it completely wrong😂
I lucked out and pulled one of the first pairs of tw hypnotiks when they first came out back in 2018. Held on to them hoping for a potential good investment. Instead, Epic adds a store and now wants to get rid of trading. They said screw the player base economy, lets get as rich as we can. On top of that, the majority of good items you can get from drops are stuck behind the stupid "blueprint" paywall. Epic portraying greed at it's finest.
wow, knowing all these awful changes to our game has been pretty much all so that some guy can buy a super yacht, makes the pain of my inventory becoming worthless even more painful
like Epic games is becoming EA sports rn
