Hi, I have been watching all your videos for a new hybrid SUV. I'm cross shopping (NX 350h, Venza, rav4, CRV, Sportage) and really like the new CR-V (and Venza) and wait time seem shorter than Toyota but my major concern is that it DOES NOT have a spare tire. Although the industry is going away from spare tire in my case this is a non-negotiable. The risk of being stranded on the highway with a toddler because of a flat tire does not sit well with me. I've been there with a flat tire (in mountains with no cell signal to a junction of 2 major US highways) and just seems so scary. I wonder if you think there will be a push back and KEEP spare tires on new vehicles.

The lack of features on the new 2023 CRV reminds me of the old Lily Tomlin routine: “We’re the phone company. We don’t care. We don’t have to.” It’s as if Honda believes their customer base is so loyal that they don’t have to compete with basic features that are now standard on many other cars.

As a 78-year-old, I am attracted to the technology of the KIA to help avoid problems on the road and in the parking lot. The adaptive cruise control that includes keeping the KIA in its lane and keeping it a specific distance from the car in front will, I believe, make the driving experience much less stressful and much safer. The 360-degree view of everything around when parking and when backing out of a parking space is also very attractive to an old man. I suggest you mention these benefits for people my age and beyond.

Honda engineers need to innovate more and are falling behind Kia. I noticed Honda's recent trend to do away with the spare tire and it's a deal breaker for a lot of folks. We want to drive and travel with a peace of mind. Honda needs to include spare tires in the Accord and CRV hybrids, especially if they are asking ridiculously high prices for the vehicles.

What car doesn’t come with a spare? That’s absurd. Do you know how many times I’ve blown a tire? Sometimes it even happened on the freeway. Other times I had slow leaks and just swapped it out until I could get to a tire place. No spare tire just means one more additional cost you’ll have. Plus there’s no hidden compartment to store it.

You have to look at how long you're keeping the car. The $3k savings actually may not translate into any savings when it's all said and done. For example, if you switch cars every 4 or so years: Kia $40k, CRV $43k, if both depreciate at 40% means Kia cost you $16k in depreciation, Honda cost you $17k, all else being equal. Now in the real world, Honda may depreciate less so it actually cost you less overall. Personally the $3k wouldn't stop me from buying the car I liked better, since it's a small overall percentage of total price and you have to live with this car for years.

Honda depreciation covers the higher initial cost. You will only lose 18% on the honda at 5 years and 44% at 10 years. Kia is 28% for 5 years and 52% at 10 years. So buying either one brand new, just from cost alone you will be better off buying the crv but used the kia has huge dips in depreciation at 2, 5 and 6 years old where it will be more avantageous to buy the kia if it is thoroughly inspected pre purchase

We looked at and drove both the Kia Sportage Hybrid SX Prestige and the Honda Sport Touring Hybrid. We ended up buying the Kia. We found the Kia to be more refined and a better value. The Honda became noisy when stepping on the gas where the Kia seemed more seamless between gas and electric. We could not care at all about the Android car play. The ride on the Kia is very comfortable. We will be taking a long trip, Las Vegas to San Diego, in less than a week.
We have had the car for less than a month so we really can't comment about the gas mileage. The main reason for choosing the hybrid over the non hybrid was the fact that the hybrid is so much better than the non hybrid; the improved gas mileage is just an added bonus.
There are two minor annoyances with the Kia: the memory seats do not control the side mirrors and the fact the home link mirror do not come with the SX Prestige. A home link mirror can be easily added.

We USED TO be CRV fans, but the last one we bought, a 2015 EX, went through batteries like crazy - about one every year. No explanation as to why (like no shorts or obvious electrical problems).
It also started using oil, even though it only had 82,000 miles on it. Starter went out on it, and after having it replaced, it started acting up again.
So, this time, we are trying the Kia, and a hybrid at that, which we never thought we would do. Love it so far.

Yes the resale value will be better for the CR-V but after 10 years, in 2033, will you get 13 000$ more for the Honda ? (+ 15 000$ with the financing.) I doubt. Make profit the difference and you will have the half of your next vehicule in your pockets at that time. Only finish fan of Honda will take the CR-V.

I have a CRV - old, ton of miles. I LOVE it and it has been a great car. We bought a Kia Telluride, SX Prestige for my wife 2 years ago. I LOVE that car too. Compared to other makes with similar features and amenities, it was a great value. And...compared to similar cars in the same price range, it blew them away with performance and features (not to mention looks). So...as somebody who loves both Honda and Kia AND who is in the market right now for a new car (replacement for my CRV), I can say that these two are the finalists on my list...and I looked at just about every other option in this category (Rav4, CX-50, CX-5, Rogue and so on). From all of the reviews I have watched, to everything I have seen and heard, these are the best two options in this class. And for me, I have to give the nod to Kia. They are both great cars, but the Kia just takes everything one step further. Much better looks/styling, better mileage, more power, quieter, more towing capability....all at a better price. Now granted, you can't find a Sportage Hybrid XS Prestige available and if you can, you have to pay at least $4K over MSRP. So the real price is probably about the same. I still lean toward the Kia. It's just a better looking car - inside and out.

There is no law in Canada against selling above msrp. The law is that you have to advertise the product price clearly, so as long as full price is advertised it’s legal to charge whatever they want. One difference that gets overlooked or ignored though is the quality and attitude of the respective dealer networks. Kia dealerships that I have shopped ( and also Hyundai) are very arrogant and almost predatory in their approach to customers. I think their cars are great but in the US it's a painful experience to even attempt to buy a Kia. They don't approach you with the idea of converting you to becoming a loyal customer for life. They simply want and even demand that you pay thousands of dollars over MSRP. Take it or leave it. Honda seems to be quite a bit more customer friendly.

I completely agree with your indication of higher reliability and resale value. On the other hand, Kia seems to nail the technology, has a bit softer ride, better pricing, much better warranty, and an edgy and interesting look.
