I like to cut the flooring and lift up a strip the length and width of the floorplate so that the wall sits on (contacting) the concrete foundation. Flooring like vinyl and others can fatigue and “squeeze down” over time with the slight movement of the house. Same with the sheetrock in the ceiling. Good job, though.
Simple and to the point. No long, drawn-out story. Just getting it done. I appreciate the conciseness of the video. I need a wall with a door to separate a space for my cats so this will be a starter video to save. Thank you.
Thanks for the video! I have watched many wall install videos and I am slowly building the confidence to give it a go. We want to add a walk-in pantry!

How did I get the top on without messing up the ceiling that’s the same ceiling stuff that my parents have and I need to build a wall if it’s too tight, trying to get it in then aren’t you trying to tap it in and it’s scratching the ceiling!!

Congratulations on the project! My first concern is the use of SCREWS vs NAILS! I've always understood that nails are far superior in terms of shear strength and that screws are actually more brittle in applications like this.
@Queue-NextUp Thanks for the clarity! I guess, considering the application, that should be fine! My challenge has usually been just being consistent in my builds and processes. So, I typically just built everything with the same methodology: NAILS! 😆 Still a great video!

Thank you for the video. I am framing a wall over a tiled floor. Drilling down didn’t cause any cracks in the tile? Kind of like drilling into concrete?
Pressure treated lumber should be used when attached to a concrete slab, along with specific fasteners that are resistant to corrosion. This is because concrete carries moisture to anything directly touching it.
Thank you for breaking this down Barney-style, man. I've never been a very confident 'handy man' but I try anyway. I'm about to do a wall just like this over some laminate flooring and I figure if you did it over tile, I should be fine. Am I right? I don't want to have to take up an entire house-level of flooring just to add a simple wall... but I'm concerned about expansion causing issues. What do you think??
@@diyelie I've tried, but the internet being the internet, I found both of the polar opposite thoughts and am just as confused as ever: "It's fine" and "You're an idiot if you do it"😆. Thank you for the video though!
So one thing should have been addressed is that it appears you placed the first new studs opposite a stud existing in the wall. Then you do not explain the reason for 2nd beam. Then after sheet-rocking how to tape/mud to existing ceiling so as to finesse it so it does not look recently installed. Lots of particular detail absent.
Because I was able to find the studs so removing the drywall was not necessary. I kept the floor that way because that part of the room became the closet. Check out my 3rd video on this.

Did you use a hammer drill? Makes it easy
Good wall. Fyi straight up and down is called "plumb". 👍

When you tied into the other walls, did you find studs there or just drywall?
I found studs.
Very informative 👍

Hi
How did you find the studs or backing in ceiling?
I used a stud finder.
Congratulations on the project! My first concern is the use of SCREWS vs NAILS! I've always understood that nails are far superior in terms of shear strength and that screws are actually more brittle in applications like this.
This is a small wall that will be bearing minimal load from whatever he might hang on it, screws are more than fine.

Where did you get those bottom stud plates
Great job! High 5
thank you!
Thank you.
Do you need city permission or anything to be changing anything in your house?? Like this for example??
No, that would be only if you were adding square footage and not just dividing some rooms up.
Check with your county or city for regulations.
Of course. Most jurisdictions require permits for new wall installation
@@firstwatchvideothey might require permits if you're removing and adding load bearing walls, this doesn't have any effect on structural integrity
Do you need the brackets? Or can you pocket screw the studs?
Thanks 🙏 a million you’re dope!!
No problem!! Thank you for watching.

thanks bro...gave me a good idea
What about if you used framing nail gun?
I don’t think that should be an issue but I am not a professional.
Do you have to drill the 2x4 into the floor?
I need to know what material to buy !
Everything shown in the video.
What type of screw did u used to attach the 2x4 towards the drywall

Great video. Do you need permit to add partition wall?
Check with your local authorities.
Can you tell me where to buy stud plate. Would be helpful if you can provide me link(s).
Sorry I am a woman.
Stud plates can be found at any hardware store, Amazon, Walmart online, eBay, etc.
Good video i would have used a ramset instead of the brackets
Thank you for watching. That would be a good choice too.
Are you suppose to use a pressure treated board on the floor?
Pressure treated wood is for the outdoors to protect against bugs and the elements. Not necessary inside.
No.
I agree
Pressure treated lumber should be used when attached to a concrete slab, along with specific fasteners that are resistant to corrosion. This is because concrete carries moisture to anything directly touching it.
I want to do this in my house so badly but it has windows where there should be wall and doors aren't lined up right.
Yea, that sounds like a headache. Hopefully you can find a solution.

Hello brother will you be able to build a additional room for a house? I just wondering if you can how much you charge to build a room?
Thank you for inquiring. However I’ve only done work in my homes.
Do you need two beams on top?
No, only if it's a load bearing wall
Not necessarily
what color was used to paint the main walls of the house? Can you tell me the name or the code?
The color was mixed to match the existing walls. Unfortunately I don’t have the code.
Why did you have to use the stud plates ?
Make it more secure. I like to overdue it sometimes. Lol
Do you need to get permit to build it ? I was thinking about doing it
No, not an interior wall in your own home.
It’s just an interior wall.
How much did everything cost?
I don’t remember the exact cost. I’d say between $500.00-$700.00. Have you done similar projects?
Why use 2 2x4s on top instead of a 4x4?
Great question. I sincerely do not know.
Hello! So I’m guessing you capped off the electrical sockets?
Yes I did.
Where did you get the plates from?
I order them from Home Depot online.
Can I hire you. I need to do this at my new home.
I wish I could help. Unfortunately I only work on my stuff being that I am not a professional.
Those plates add problems when adding the drywall & the trim.
They were fine for me.
Bro could you give me a prediction of how much it would coast
Lumber prices fluctuate drastically, any price estimate would be pretty useless
I agree.
I did not calculate everything but it did not surpass $600.00.
My bro, you need a better working table... The one you were using is slippery which can cause some problems
Got it. Thanks.
Did ya get a permit?🤔
Watched this before an interview
Your amazing! I’m going to be putting up a wall thank you!:)
Thank you. Good luck on your project.
Do you also work at blue? I was an architect in the network domain.
No.
Is it me? Why did he hide the outlet on the right side?
The outlets were covered properly before I put the wall up.
I don’t understand about the stud plates. If you couldn’t bring it inside why would you use the stud plates?
I only use the stud places because I wanted to.
@@diyelie lol 😂 ok bro 😎

I should really consider wearing them for a project like this.

I understand your points, I should’ve explained more.
I would add a couple of braces throughout the middle
That wouldn’t be a bad idea.
Was the frame work supplies expensive??
Not at all. I don’t remember the exact price but no it was not expensive.
why did not you make the full frame without those metal anchors and just positioned it in place and screwed it into the ceiling and floor ?
They are really not necessary but I just added them for extra hold.
Why didn’t you remove the flooring or drywall?
Because I was able to find the studs so removing the drywall was not necessary. I kept the floor that way because that part of the room became the closet. Check out my 3rd video on this.

How much do I expect to pay for something like this?
I’m not sure how much someone will ask you to do it for you. But it cost me between $500.00-$700.00.
Where’s the door frame ?
There’s no door on this wall.
