My husband reminded me this morning that we started building our house 2 years ago. We moved in a little over a year ago. Yes it took a good year to build before we could move in. We built it with our own hands, every board and nail. The only worker we hired was the electrician. I give thanks to this channel and a couple of others for the advice, skills, and techniques they share. After moving in, we added 2 porches, and a guest room. We have a wonderful PAID FOR house now that we will enjoy for the rest of our lives.

last night after watching the framing one, i built a basement wall in 45 minutes and it worked perfectly. Today, I watched this one and am about to build the doorway on another wall i built. You make this easy. I bougt a book from local DIY store and have sat on this project for months. Your video got me off the couch and motivated.
I cannot thank you enough for this video! I am framing the wall with my first window in it and while I have seen this video multiple times I was completely confusing myself hahahaha...just watched it again....now, out to finish that window and wall section!

great video. I really like your laid-back teaching style but you TOTALLY lost me when you started talking about the window. for future reference, it would have really helped if you had an actual window in front of you so you could show us what/where a jamb is and how to measure it. as it is, I had to stop the video and open another tab so I could google window parts before I could continue this video.

Yes that would help me as well as I've purchased reclaimed windows. They have an overhang in it's metal framing. But I'm hoping he has a focused window video too!!

If it is structural framing, then no screws . Unless you use structural screws and not normal deck type screws.

It would be nice to do framing examples for refurbish work also. Refurbish brings lots of extra challenges like having to toe nail, demolition all of which is harder to deal with as opposed to new build.

First timer, here. I really appreciate your videos. I am going to tackle replacing a rotted door and partially rotted frame to my garage, and install a sill plate. This door rests on brick which is shared by the front and back side of this rotted door. Thanks again.

Nothing wrong with Shannon's train of thought. And as for his explanations you obviously haven't spoken to many builders. Half of them are incoherent -t mumbling away. This guy is refreashing a builder who can build & be easily understood,
Thank you so much for giving so many details about the number of nails, etc... I have a mobile home & pulled the paneling off the exterior wall to install drywall & attach the boxes to the studs, etc... AND found that they installed the exterior door without a header or cripple studs. Just nailed a 2x4 to the 2 regular studs... *sigh* so I was trying to figure out how I could reframe it so it had a header & cripple studs. I am tiny & female so the taking the exterior wall apart by myself seemed like a bad idea. So I figured if I could reframe it properly around the existing "frame" BUT how to do that properly? Your video showed me how I could sister the existing studs with new ones and cut the original ones to make them cripple studs & add a 2x6 header to all of that so I have proper framing in my front door. VERY VERY helpful. If I do it correctly it should work out just fine!

Man Shannon you are so helpful. I'm in the middle of rebuilding a wall that is going to hold a 8 foot window that opens 90 degrees and has a bar on the other side. Not only that I found rotten wood in the "L" of an L shaped house that houses a door. Again there are 3 homes in the neighborhood for sale. lol
