  • *This video heavily features stereo patch examples. For best results use both ears*
The Instruō cruïnn is an analogue stereo oscillator that utilises through-zero phase modulation to create deep, animated textures.
On top of its single sawtooth oscillator core, cruïnn produces five additional parallel phase-displaced sawtooth variants - each controlled by their own discrete internal triangle waveform LFO. With both on-board and external control over the LFO rates and modulation depths, cruïnn effortlessly creates, super-super-super-super-super saws, lush pads, phasey basses, and chaotic effects.
With cruïnn’s included passive 4 HP Expander, access to all six waveforms are available. Add to that the ability to individually displace the phase of each waveform via CV and cruïnn becomes an amorphous swarm of harmonically rich sawtooths.
    • Stereo and summed outputs
    • Six phase-displaced sawtooth variants
    • Five internal triangle waveform LFOs
    • Global rate and depth modulation controls
    • Built-in stereo VCA
    • Linear and exponential frequency modulation
    • LFO functionality
    • Includes 4 HP passive waveform and CV expansion module

An analog sawtooth vco, the phasing implementation and zenerdiode clipper circuit, how much fatness does one person need? This much, and that person is me.

Dammit Instruō. I had literally _just_ redone my “final final final” plan on Modulargrid. That’s what I get I guess.
Well, now I just have to wait until it’s up so I can redo it again.

Wow! What an incredible VCO. The Rate/Depth control configuration is so smart. If I'm counting correctly there are 6 VCAs (L+R, 4 phase variants) and 5 LFOs. Doh! This would be nice running L/R through the wavefolders on my Cs-L. The separate outs are great if you want to set up your own stereo spread. I remember commenting how useful that would have been on saïch when it came out so I'm taking credit for that feature. 😜

    • @instruo

      Technically 7 VCAs ;)
Each LFO has amplitude control via depth!

This was special. You and your modules really created a special hour & 30 minute analog sonic moment. I'm assuming the audio in this video is straight from the synth without much processing, great natural depth your oscillators & filters have. And, to see your function generators interacting with Harmonaig was awesome!! You could go on for hours. Cheers from east coast of USA.

Very minimal post processing. No EQ on the synth track in this video, just side chain from the voice over and some fades for the transitions.
Subtractive patches like in this video I find need very little work in post!

I bought Harmonaig and Saich and been getting familiar with them - really impressive modules. Boggles the mind a bit, for a small company how you actually produce modules like this and the amount of design and work that goes into them. When I first looked at modular about 20 years ago, it was sort of Maplin territory machines that just made beep noises and cost a lot of money to achieve it. Now it's still a lot of money but the maturity and functionality in the designs has made a quantum leap. Really loving it.

      Thanks! :D
It’s been really fascinating seeing the growth and development of the industry and format over the years.
I think it’s taken me a bit of time but with Instruō I’ve very much kept the design remit focussed on creating modules that are ultimately the instruments that I want to play with in my own racks.
      Fight the feature creep!! 😂
The Harmonàig and Saïch are a design couple that stem from prototypes and experiments I’ve worked in for many years now.
Early harmony/comping control engines i prototyped in Max/MSP as compositional aids.
Much more fun in hardware form though!

Man, this patch got so deep. At around the 01:32:45 mark where you make the comment about "physical modeling", the sound was so rich, and you were into it so much you stopped talking and explaining what you were doing, but I understand why. It sounded amazing! The one thing I didn't fully understand about this patch was the two "cascaded" cnocs generating a "quadrature triangle pair"? 🤯🤯🤯 ...and the way they later seemed to be interacting with the vinca towards the end. The FM mod + cutoff envelope on the i-o47's was doing some crazy stuff. Please do a followup on this! This was like a master class in synthesis and I need another one to help drive it home. I really appreciate how you make your lessons musical too. All the "beep boop" modular videos get old fast. Thank you!

I didn’t realise until doing the edit how long I ended up tweaking without saying anything! 😂
Thanks for commenting I really appreciate it!
That particular cnōc quadrature patch is revisited in detail in the cnōc video.
I think around the 59 minute mark there is a patch example section on it specifically.
      th-cam.com/video/ESkyAD4MZ10/w-d-xo.html

Which sequencer is driving this at about 1h20m please?

    • @instruo
      @instruo  ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't currently have/use any sequencers :)
Any melodic "sequencing" in this video is generated by the tagh sample&hold under sampling a triangle LFO to produce melodic repetitions. Essentially low frequency alias tones producing DC voltages.
This CV is then quantised by the harmonàig to a minor triad to keep it tonal.
This is my go to patching method for melodic patterns.
Only two parameters to tweak this way (LFO rate, clock rate) with a quantiser and I get a vast dynamic array of melodies/bass lines! And I don't need to program a sequencer! 😂

It's on my list of things to do.
Is there any particular use case you'd like to see? It would be a very different form of video I feel compared to the other modules I have filmed overviews for.
A VCA being a much more fundamental core component in a system, use cases could be endless!
One angle could be the functional difference between 2-quadrant and 4-quadrant multipliers and a how sideband generation differs at audio rate etc.
I have several videos in the works at the moment but the Vincâ could use some love!
I'll get to it eventually :)

@@instruo I'm looking forward to those videos/tutorials 😃. I use the vinca as a regular ordinary VCA. But I have the feeling I missed out on some features. Can wrap my head around the difference between the 2 paths in the module. You can use them parallel or in series. I need some guidance or see some examples how to fully use this module. thank you in advance for you help.

    • @instruo
      @instruo  ปีที่แล้ว +1

@@wes2819 The best way to consider the channels cascaded in series is as a voltage controllable attenuverter/bias followed by a VCA.
For processing control signals a modulator can be scaled/inverted/offset as required and then being scaled in global amplitude.
Much like a pre-gain processor stage into attenuator.
