It’s beautiful, as Instruo instruments invariably are, but . . . $269 and it can’t be used as an effective audio oscillator? My pocketbook would pick Joranalogue’s Contour 1 without much debate.

I appreciate your kind words on my design aesthetic.
Price point is a very complicated factor when it comes to smaller scale production of specialist products.
Especially given the current climate of increased costs of production and global freight. Not to mention the ongoing semiconductor shortages.
There are many very new organisations at this time buying up stock of anything available (this includes very standard parts such as basic transistors and opamps).
This is driving the price of components up to absurd levels.
      Everything is costing more unfortunately…
I consider myself to have been extremely fortunate with Instruō with regards to stock quantities and continued capability to design and produce. Unfortunately we are seeing some circumstances very negatively affect many other manufacturers in this market :(
I have a LOT of new module designs that have been shelved for the foreseeable as lead times for what are typically very standard parts are now easily pushing 2024-2025.
Development cycle of these two recent modules have had many stumbling blocks that had to be overcome. I had to apply resources to additional searching of alternate parts that are still available (typically at increased price). These invariably required hardware revisions and adaptations to work as intended.
It’s been a process! I shan’t bore you with the specifics.
The beauty of this niche modular synth industry is the vast range of incredible small creative developers making wonderful devices. If you (and/or your pocket book?) have a preference to one please support other creators wherever possible!
I understand that trading and the second hand market play a big part in Eurorack, but if it’s at all practical, I highly recommend purchasing new from the various small synth retailers out there.
Not only does this help the smaller vendors, but you will also benefit from the manufacturers warranty that comes with a new purchase.
Now, with regards to your complaint of the cnōc not functioning as an oscillator.. I would argue that it can! Just not particularly well as an audio source! 😂
Which it was never designed to do!
(I do also believe I have that side of things covered. You can search by module type on my website to find a few audio optimised oscillators on there).
The cnōc is very precisely curated to have a small form factor as a very versatile function generator, while maintaining accessibility in terms of interface.
(I believe we’ve pulled this off quite successfully!)
In addition, if you have a little patience, give us a month or two and the new releases may well be available to use at no cost on the VCV Rack platform.
I teach synthesis using the Instruō VCV collection and the cnōc will be a lim excellent addition!
I hope this helps alleviate any concerns you may have and clarifies some details that may or may not have been of consideration.
Any other concerns, please don’t hesitate to reach out to our support team.
And again, please support local vendors and small industry :)

@@instruo very thoughtful and lengthy explanation on the economics of the industry. It is much appreciated and very interesting as well. Congrats on the new releases! I’ve been nerding out all day on these new additions to the instruo ecosystem. Happy to hear that there are even more amazing things just on the horizon!

We love a good cnōc cnōc joke in the first 15 seconds. Fantastic feature set, just as I was wishing for a small envelope/function generator in black too.

Jason has been killing it lately, the last several modules have All been awesome. I sincerely appreciate all the hard work that goes into the wonderful gear we get to use this day And age. That instruo is able to continue to release new stuff is an accomplishment by itself, the market for components being what it is. All hail's Mr Lim, you make beautiful instruments and I thank you!

Putting this on my list for the future “all function generators” system that I seem to be tending toward with great modules like this and Contour 1…

Hats off to this beautifully and cleverly done presentation! To the point without extra fluff, explained very understandable and easy to follow, very informative, appealing visual setup and editing, and you also potentially hook customers to other modules out of your product lineup, showing possible interactions. Besides a great insight into the featureset of the cnōc, it is also a great resource of lessons on modular workflow, synthesis and patching tricks in general! Very appreciated!

      Thank you so much! ☺️
The videos are very much long form! But I do try to keep the focus on techniques where possible that can be considered more general in terms of synthesis concepts. Especially when it’s a utility module.
A lot of the time prepping for videos become a deeper dive learning process in my end!
The Cruïnn video for example, I found the audio sync/phase modulation trick pairing with the neóni a little by accident!
I have some more deep dive videos in the production queue :)

I forget which videos I still haven't put chapter markings in the description...
I mark them out during the edit process more recently, but adding the after the fact is so much more time consuming.
I'll add these the the description for others.
      Thanks again 😊

At one point it's mentioned that it can act as a filter, would you just patch audio into the in and adjust pots to get a low pass filter?

    • @instruo
      @instruo  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yep exactly!
It’ll be have exactly as a DC coupled LPF :)
There will be a base level of high frequency roll off on any carrier signal.
Although sending negative CV to A/R may lift the cutoff frequency slightly.

    • @instruo

      Nowhere I'm afraid..
I got them made for person use in house and for my students when I run my sound design courses.
But due to certain patents, stackable cables are a bit of a minefield that I don't want to navigate.
      Maybe one day!
