      "Tesla Model S plaid record mondial 1/4 mile fast in the world 8.77 @ 162.55!!!" Watch that video! Filmed in Canada, I believe. 1/8 mile in 5.6 seconds @ 126 mph. With the Canadian tune, you hack the computer and unlock the top speed of Plaid which is over 210 mph, possibly 220!

    In 1969 I was just out of high school and I bought a 1965 Mustang GT fastback with h a 289 V8. It got to 60 mph in about 8 seconds and that was considered pretty good back then. I had a friend with a ‘65 GT 350 which got to 60 in about 6 1/2 seconds and it felt like a rocket ship to me. Now the Plaid is hitting 120+ mph in 6 seconds flat or just under. I can barely wrap my mind around that. It’s a new world.

      👍 For sure! I thought my first Camaro (‘74 350) was ‘fast’. What a slug compared to my next Camaro ‘69 327 with a big cam and mods. And then my nitrous foxbody was faster than those, and fast for a street car in the ‘80s, but only running low 12s. Dang, horsepower inflation is real! 😃

      similar for me - had a small block v8 with 4 bbl and 0-60 was about the same as you....not sure about the 1/8 mile - maybe low 70s and high 9s ? 1/4 mile - mid 15s and 80s mph I suppose. Back then the big cars with hemi ran stock about 100-105 mph in the 1/4 in about 14 seconds and that seemed SO fast.

    Hi, love your vids! You present them in a very relaxed manner.
    Q... why not remove the speaker & amp, then carry a portable Bluetooth speaker with you.
    Why not also take out the passenger seat on arrival, using a portable power tool for speed.
    Maybe also unbolt the hatch while you’re at it.
    Definitely a couple of tenths then.
    ...Naturally it will become addictive over time, you will then strip all doors, Perspex the windows, run a carbon race seat. Ultimately you will be on magnesium or even carbon wheels & get your friends 100lb daughter to run the car on record runs!
    Clearly by then you would have a name for your rocket ship & be looking for a carbon bonnet & brakes.
    Time will tell 👍😊

    It’s been a while since I last watched you run and I was impressed how quick the car is with that weight reduction. It’s really quite sad that there really isn’t anything there that is competitive to the Plaid. As you guys were eluding to, how many ICE cars can make back to back to back runs and do those kind of times and the answer is none. The cost to get a ICE car to run those times is crazy and the breakage will put you in the poor house. Great to watch you race.👍👍🇨🇦

    Another superinformative video! Seems each week when a new video comes out, your subscriber rate goes up a hundred, now 20.3K! Perhaps you could comment on this. Been putting it on most Tesla sites and drag racers who boast they can beat the Plaid!
    Face it, the vast majority of Tesla Plaid buyers get them for one thing....they are the fastest cars on the planet that you can buy from a manufacturer that you don't have to spend an additional $20-$30K to modify them to still be slower than a S Plaid. AND for you folks that agree and have interest in speed rather than how far we can go on a charge, or how much Teslas will be worth 3 years from now this will be right up your alley!
    Last month a Tesla Model S Plaid in Napierville, Quebec set the new record for the fastest quarter-mile time for the electric sedan at 8.83 seconds and 161mph.
    The Model S had a stripped out interior for weight savings, as well as SV104 wheels wrapped in Mickey Thompson drag radials at the rear and Michelin PS4 tires on the front.
    Not content with the blistering fast time, the same Model S Plaid has set a new record this week. At the same track in Napierville the Model S crossed the line in just 8.77 seconds at 162.55mph (261.60km/h), a 5.67 second 1/8 mile time and an outstanding 125MPH to 162MPH time in 3.1 seconds!!!
    As for what changed that allowed the car to go faster this time the owner, TMC user mulot30th, said there was an additional 60lb weight saving over the previous attempt due to someone else being behind the wheel on the run.
    Additionally he said there a slight change to the suspension.
    “Main change is suspension geometry change (slight) which reduce “tire drag” a little bit at least that is what I intended to do with that and have worked,” he said.
    Interestingly, the top speed at the end of his quarter mile run of 162.55mph is inches away from the electronically limited top speed (when not in Track Mode) of 163mph.
    As first told earlier this week, Quebec-based Ingenext was able to hack their way past that limiter and reached a top speed of 216mph (347km/h).
    As for this Model S Plaid, the owner says that while the car does not feel like it is slowing down when crossing the line, he feels there is not much room to improve beyond 8.77s with the current setup, but a BIG brake option available from Tesla and several other Tesla specific after market parts dealers at a much reduced price, and TOP OF THE LINE HIGH SPEED RATED STREET TIRES should also be used!
    You can check out the record runs both of TOP SPEED and FASTEST QUARTER MILE time on several TH-cam channels

      Thanks Roy 👍 I’ve traded a few messages with the driver of that fully stripped Plaid that set the record (Miguel). He certainly went all-out! I admire his dedication to the goal.
      Since I drive mine to the track, mirrors are still very nice to have. Airbags too, since drunk drivers can strike at any moment. Then there’s the other conveniences like an instrument panel (to see MPH!) and a center console.
      I guess I’m spoiled since I also like a stereo 😃; he’s taken out all 20 speakers of course.
      One of these times I’ll have the front passenger seat out, and I’ll put the Nittos back on now that I got one patched up. A 5.89 should happen without going nearly as far as he did.
      But again, I admire his dedication to the goal 👍

      @@TeslaPlaidChannel Thanks for the reply. Andrew. Was wondering if that hacked computer on the 216MPH run would be a big help (do you have to take out of TRACK MODE) to use it? I presume you saw Chet's 170MPH crash. Damn lucky he only broke 5 ribs and other assorted injuries that should have him sidelined for 6 months! Some guys get really fanatical about this! Also wonder since his Plaid won't be repaired just by polishing it, IF a second battery pack could be retrofitted to your car for a TREMENDOUS amount of power? Imagine you would need a Tesla engineer to do that but might screw up the computer. I believe fairly soon the Plaids will be coming with the 4680 batteries and at least 14% more power than currently available.

      More rolling resistance equals slower trap speeds and worse ETs. We’ve tested the Nittos many times on this channel.
      On this particular night, we’d estimate 10 runs around 6.00 with drag radials. Faster than the 6.04 and 6.05, but slower than the 8 runs in the 5.90s. Why? Because the track is well prepped and tire spin is not the biggest factor (only 2 runs had any appreciable slip).

    Having raced many times over the years, I still don't understand WHY they don't allow people who don't want to go through the water box to totally avoid it or get onto the staging lanes without getting any water on their tires whatsoever. Unless the tire is slipping (it really only did in 2 of these 10 runs), then the fastest runs are actually going to be on the smallest (lightest) tires that don’t spin. It’s a balance act for sure, but not everyone gets it. I’ve seen Plaids with 315mm tires on 21” wheels at Bradenton and they can’t understand why their fastest runs are only 9.50s (one Plaid couldn’t even break 9.60s!)

    Cool that the car is fast but electric cars dragging just doesn’t do it for me. Don’t get me wrong. People put so much work into their gas powered engines and it’s neat to see how they compare against each other and all the work they have done to the vehicle versus just pressing the accelerator and going fast.

    • @TeslaPlaidChannel
      @TeslaPlaidChannel  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      And for decades that was me. So now that I’m older and my back hurts when I lean into an engine bay for hours, it’s nice to have a fast and reliable option. And it takes more than pressing a pedal to win races (reaction times, finding traction, etc).
      Truth is, I spent more time gutting this car than MANY of the Hellcat and Corvette drivers have spent on their car. Truth. (Although maybe it doesn’t fit your “Gas powered cars take so much work” narrative.)

    • @TeslaPlaidChannel
      @TeslaPlaidChannel  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Never once seen the brake temperature warning in over 400 Plaid dragstrip runs. Not once with either of our two Plaids (3 if you include our Model X Plaid). Even when we made 20 runs in one night, we knew enough to spread them out. No complaints with these brakes at all 👍. We are not road racing. (Racers know their sport.)
      But surprise! Pads do eventually begin to wear out. That lowers the fluid level a bit. That was all this was.
      As for replacing them, how’d that work out for Chet? 🤣 (We’d replace the fluid with Castrol SRF even *before* we touch the rotors and pads…and we wear safety equipment too!)

    • @TeslaPlaidChannel
      @TeslaPlaidChannel  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Actually, I’m hoping Tesla never releases such a feature. EVs already get a bit of scorn from the “less forward thinking” guys at the dragstrip. Even if we didn’t use “auto-launch”, just knowing that it exists would increase animosity.
      Besides, the track currently pays $50 for each 0.000 and they’d have to stop that bonus (assuming drivers knew *exactly* where to stage to get that perfect result) Our last 0.000 and $50 is here: th-cam.com/video/rNBlgvR1R8o/w-d-xo.html

    Its a little bit boring to watch how you can improve with a electric car your time slip! Put your car in launch control and fingers crossed, thats it. Sometimes you have a tire slip or not. Maybe the battery is a little bit hotter! Or just the Tesla system gifs a little bit les power to the motor. You always will ran between 5,95 or 6.05 thats the variable of the cars performance. That's it!

    • @TeslaPlaidChannel
      @TeslaPlaidChannel  2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Tire pressure? Swap on the Nittos? Staging deep or shallow? What line? (groove or outside) Leave the moment that Launch Control is ready or a few seconds after? Bump in? (Now possible). Highest state of charge is the fastest? (Not usually, it’s often the 4th pass.)
      And of course, the Reaction Time usually makes a bigger difference than all of these factors put together. If 0.000 was easy, they wouldn’t pay $50 for each one. 👍
