    It really shows a lot that you can be low on charge, and still faster than everyone else. This would not have been possible with the Raven model. Also, I still enjoy watching your races against slower cars, even if it is not as much of a competition for you.

      C. Electric motors perform consistently based upon electrical energy - not SOC of battery
      D. Some rechargeable batteries reduce voltage output slightly near low SOC - better batteries retain voltage nearly constant until nearly all charge is exhausted.
      E. Tesla appears to reduce available power, voltage, during lower SOC, automatically, intentionally, purposely, as some computers, other electronic devises reduce power consumption automatically.

      @@newtonfirefly3584 The open circuit voltage of a lithium ion battery drops off most between 100% and 80% and yes from there to about 20% it doesn't change much, but that's open circuit voltage. Here we are trying to pump as many lithium ions as we can between the electrodes of the battery, and as lithium ions exit the carbon anode and refill the cathode the resistance to pushing those ions into the metal mixed metal lattice goes up and limits the maximum power draw. Electric toy motors tend to have high resistance and aren't restrained by the battery resistance. The performance motor in the Plaid would not have much resistance, else it's efficiency would be quite a bit lower.

      We’ve raced as low as 40% SOC and saw it running off by about 4 tenths. That’s roughly one tenth slower for each 15% drop in SOC. We’ve seen the same amount of drop on several other Plaids, so it really seems to be pretty consistent. (Many other things can slow it down, including traction, weight, environmental factors, but these SOC drops seem to affect the best possible ET)

    I like the videos, but from a car enthusiast point of view I just don’t get it. The Tesla model S plaid is a fast car in stock form that’s obvious. It has to be one of the easiest high 5/ low 6 sec cars to take down the strip, given tcs and awd. The Tesla will only get faster if Tesla makes them faster. You can make any ICE fast. Modifying cars is something I’ve always enjoyed, I’ve personally wrenched probably every nut and bolt on my car. I see EV’s as a fun street car, but as for something I want to modify and see progress every time I take it to the track or on the street, I’ll stick to what I know and enjoy. Anyways, I wish we lived closer bc I’d be a good race for you, NA LS7 powered Trans Am WS6. It runs consistent 5.90’s currently and I drive it to and from the track which is about a 20 min drive each way. Not very enjoyable, but I’ve always praised anyone that can drive to the track, beat up their vehicle and then drive it home in one piece. I’m not trying to bash EV’s, but do you see yourself ever getting bored with the power and wanting more?

    • @TeslaPlaidChannel
      @TeslaPlaidChannel  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Having built Chevy small block engines from my teens, I agree that there was a high level of satisfaction testing the performance of a new camshaft or whatever it was that week. My appreciation for those cars and the effort required to modify and maintain them has not changed.
      Yet we get older and my ability to continually fix cars has changed. My aching back can’t take leaning into a engine bay all day anymore. Yet my desire to go fast every week has not diminished.
      So this car fills a niche for me. (Meanwhile my teenage son still fixes his ICE car as well as should, with my experience to guide him.)
      Knowing the amount of effort at my job that went into saving $125K, there’s still a satisfaction that it was “worked for”. (I wanted a Tesla for a half dozen years before I could finally afford our first.)
      Sure, it’s viscerally very different than ICE. But running versus mostly trailered cars hasn’t gotten boring even after 1425 Tesla timeslips. (Racing other EVs is boring, that’s why we avoid it.)
      This is a rare moment in history: when buIlt ICE cars and this EV are at parity on the dragstrip. It will pass soon enough, so I’ll savor it while I can 👍
