Well tesla had the advantage of being pioneers, which helps a lot in reducing cost. Lucid's 2024 investment in R&D has been reported to be $1B, compared to tesla's $3.9B, and lucid managed to make a better car. I like both companies since I'm a control engineer for aircrafts and land vehicles, and I work with people from both tesla and lucid, and after talking about performance differences, the one from tesla said they are trying their best to get back to the top of the charts for performance since they know lucid has beaten them. Again, in terms of price there's no talk, tesla beats it. But at almost 4x the investment, I'd also expect that.
The drag radials on the Sapphire also make a nice difference, with an impressive 1.40 60', but you had a great reaction time which took the win! Greg has dialed in his COPO Camaro to be consistently faster than before. Good races!

It's very weird, because this is the ONLY channel where a tesla s plaid can beat the sapphire in a drag race, and it's pretty down to driver skill. Look at every other on TH-cam video comparing drag races between a plaid and a sapphire, the sapphire wins every time they test. Be it with a track pack or without. People in the comments saying a tesla plaid s "destroys" the lucid, when it's the other way almost all the time. Also it's a car that weighs 258 kg extra. Performance wise, the plaid S loses, although it beats the lucid when it comes to price but that's a different story where lots of other factors are taken into consideration
@@carloscaramelo2866 It reminds us what all drag racers know: Conditions Matter. This Channel races in the real World at public events. Most other channels do a private rental on a prefect day, and then pay extra to have the track perfectly prepped. They want every ET to be the best number a car has ever done. That’s NOT the real world. And that’s nothing like street conditions. But this seems to be too much for casual viewers to understand? 🤔 The pavement that we drive on 99.9999% of the time will NOT yield the same ETs as published in magazines 😃
I haven’t seen him do any better than the 1.40 with the Lucid, so that is likely his best 60-ft. Which is the 28.0” MT that fits a 19” or larger wheel? Oh that’s right, they don’t make one. Of course we’d go with MTs (or Hoosiers or M&H…) if they made one that works. These Nittos are the only DR option currently made. Not perfect, but they do fine on a prepped track. Traction control is not intervening and mid-1.4x 60fts is the best that this car does at 4840 lbs (4775-125 out + 190 driver)
Here’s our 10-second Tesla on MTs ET Streets. Yes, they make a size that fits our other Tesla, which requires a smaller diameter tire than the Plaid: th-cam.com/video/n68KX0jJ7DI/w-d-xo.html Yet as we show: Not appreciably faster than the Michelins. Andrew,I noticed your trap speed on the 1/4 against the Lucid,I'm used to seeing u where he was at 152,I'm surprised u were only at 149! Also i agree i like the C7 too,i dont like the lambo C8 body at all😂😂
@@mcunha81 We’ve actually hit 152 MPH only a couple times in the 1/4 mile (from a dig, not counting roll races. Our first pass (like today and last month) is usually 150-151, and then by the second or third pass it’s high 149s. Wind and temperatures are of course big factors, and also lane choice. The left lane shows higher at this track, so we prefer right lane (to stay closer to legal with NHRA limits) 👍
@@mcunha81 👍And that C7 is 🤩
The copo seems to be ready for a Powerglide. :)
👍Indeed, and the ‘Glide robs far less torque than the TH400 😃
El conductor se sentía ultra veloz hasta que un día se encontró un CopoCamaro!!!
Indeed, although we have beaten that same COPO many times over the past year. (We’ve raced it dozens of times, and have won and lost roughly the same amount.)
Por fin !!
Them COPOs be hurting SLOWPAR and Cobra Jet feelings!
I bet that GT 500 Code Red will give that Camaro a good run.
It won't though, the Code Reds best run was an 8.59. It's also very over priced for what you get! The COPO 632 will beat the Code Red GT500 and with a cool 400 less HP.
looks like fun ...
I'm all about seeing the COPO make hits, rather than an EV.
👍Our Playlist of the COPO has 17 videos and over three dozen runs: th-cam.com/play/PLhSrlyVZnBMp1s7SYimr_N2q764b0MS5W.html&si=FRZS_WACqpnBoV-z

Not a EV fan, but can respect its “high performance” models. Still no match for a “purpose built” fuel burner though.
That Malibu is a very sweet build
Indeed! 👍
@
Malibu definitely should have had wheelie bars.
Copo nah ,cobra jet, yes....... i will say this i understand electric brushless motors more then just about anyone i been doing it a long time in rc,s . Big rc,s . Brushless morors and massive esc's and batter banks to pack a punch is my field. I should build a beast. I like the rimac river and aspark owl or some crap like that both are cool. But i may build a all wheel drive desth machine. My buddy at castle creations we can get it done.
@@RICHIE_RICH89 keep that crap away from ice car community. No one cares about it learn to work on an ice like a real man !!!
That Copo is pretty nasty … And how can you drive that Tesla with 1/2 a wheel ?? Looks like such a pain in the ass to turn …
It’s perfect for the dragstrip 👍
No turns! (But full visibility of the dash)
We don’t daily drive the car. Just to the track and back is all
It's very weird, because this is the ONLY channel where a tesla s plaid can beat the sapphire in a drag race, and it's pretty down to driver skill.
This Channel races in the real
World at public events.
Is 1.40 his best 60 foot? What is your best 60? He can't drive you hammered him on the tree.
I haven’t seen him do any better than the 1.40 with the Lucid, so that is likely his best 60-ft. I talked to him after the race and he admitted that he “blinked” right as the tree went yellows, which is a fatal mistake on the Pro Tree. He’s usually better, as he’s been racing for decades. (Yet he prefers a Sportsman tree, everyone has their preference)
My best ever 60-ft in the Plaid is 1.43 👍
@TeslaPlaidChannel He must have been a bracket racer. Pro tree is for real racing.
Is not, is not😢
@@dansherwood9851 Bracket racing is boring like watching grass grow.
@@rolltide9547 I like grass growing but to be truthful I was doing a little drag racing for a bit and once ur off the line it’s boring. Then I grew up and started road racing. Twenty minutes of being on ur A game. Now I sprinkle in 1/2 mile and 1 mile if I can find it, but it’s all good😁
Driver of the Sapphire just pissed me off... lol His melatonin must've started to kick in because he was definitely asleep at the launch... lol 🤦🏾♂️
@@MrNOAH504 He blinked. He’s been racing for decades and is always better than that. But as you know a Pro Tree is entirely unforgiving. Blink and you lose.
@@TeslaPlaidChannelIndeed! A pretty long blink at the wrong time... lol

Those Nittos suck. Just terrible without a burnout. Went Mickey Thompson Street SS good grief what a difference. Wonder if it would work better on an AWD/Electric vehicle? I know you say you have enough tire but how would you know--it doesn't blow them or spin like my Foxbody would, would just compensate for less grip, right? They make a 285/35 lol...
Yes, they make a size that fits our other Tesla, which requires a smaller diameter tire than the Plaid:
th-cam.com/video/n68KX0jJ7DI/w-d-xo.html
Yet as we show: Not appreciably faster than the Michelins. Just more consistent and more forgiving for bad prep. Yes, that can also win races. But not any faster when the prep is good.
He gave you the hit maybe you should have asked for a car length.
@@Doogie1954 We’ve given hundreds of hits. Always .20 or more. 0.06 is simply not possible because so many things need to happen:
1) See car move
2) Register movement in brain
3) Tell finger to release trans brake
4) Trans brake releases
5) Car starts moving
6) Car moves enough to break the beams
All SIX of those things ain’t happening in 0.06. Never happened. That why he said “sorry” afterward. He was very obviously watching the light, as we all have practiced to do thousands of times. To watch the other car is way too easy to forget. He simply forgot.
Even a Rimac doesn’t stand a chance against Greg
These EVs are for basic skilled drivers and it shows that anyone can push down a gas pedal. Takes a real driver to handle a car with gears and a gas motor. Thats the exciting part and a real adrenaline rush.
@@budhardy5853 Did ya know that 99% of the “gas motor” cars in our videos have AUTOMATIC transmissions? And usually with only 2 or 3 gears. Even when shifted manually, the popular Powerglide has only ONE SHIFT 🤔
One shift in 1320 feet. No clutch. Just “Click”. (Two clicks for Greg’s TH400)
You CAN modify your brakes and keep your warranty. Magnuson-Moss warranty act, speak to a lawyer for details.Basically you can modify anything, but they have to prove what you modified caused the issue. They can't say since you have modded brakes that they can't replace a failed screen, etc, that is illegal but they'll try their best to get away with that BS because 1) People don't know the law and 2) People don't often have the resources to take companies to court when they do that shady stuff.
Excellent point as it relates to the overall vehicle warranty. Yet grinding down the banjo bolt (to fit a smaller wheel) could certainly still affect the warranty of the Brakes themselves, but not the rest of the car as you’ve explained. Meanwhile, for our NHRA legality, we still must abide by NHRA ‘Street Legal’ Rules: “Unaltered OEM installed antilock brakes, OEM airbag functions, OEM stock frame\unibody construction, including OEM floors and firewall, as well as all other OEM safety-related systems must be functioning as per manufacturer’s specifications.” More at: www.nhra.com/nhra-street-legal
The fact that you need a copo Camaro drag car to beat a Tesla, which is putting up ridiculous numbers says it all.
👍 And one of these cars drove into the track and back home. The other one only leaves home on a trailer 😃
To be fair, the copo isnt able to be registered or insured to street drive. However it would definitely drive just fine to the track depending on where he lives. Ill be at lead foot Saturday the 21st woth my grand national, im racing. My car is bone stock though and has no chance against you or most cars there, but should be fun.
