You guys have completely enriched my knowledge of the Catholic faith. Ive watch all of your episodes and have learned so much. Now when I go to Mass and I recite the Nicene Creed, i actually mean it! Im looking forward to raising my Children with full knowledge of the faith instead of taking them to Mass once a year at Christmas like how i was raised. Its all thanks you guys!

marynadononeill There was one episode where Ryan mentioned 50% of all baptized children leave the faith and it breaks my heart because i’ll meet another Catholic but they have no clue what their actual faith is. I don’t blame them either because I was exactly the same way. I taught my mother how to pray the rosary a few weeks back and am trying to bring her and father back too.

The Catholic Talk Show Please don’t stop what you guys are doing! In fact I would be grateful to hear what you guys have to say about being Catholic in the Military and issues/solutions to inter-faith Marriages. Im in the Marines and married a agnostic Japanese woman I met while in Japan. I was starting to become a practicing Catholic when I married her and didn’t know there was an actual process in the church for that. Luckily she has no problem with me raising our children Catholic. She even comes to church every Sunday even though she doesn’t believe...yet (flirt to convert?) but not every man/woman has a spouse thats that open.

SkillsDND there are a few flaws in your bias. Yes the passages referring to exterminating cities are troublesome but you have to read the Old Testament from the lens of the ancient Hebrews. The Hebrews were a warrior like people, some say they still are to this day in relation to modern day Israel. Although the prophets wrote down that God said to exterminate the conquered and spare no living man, the following chapters give rules as to not intertwine with the pagans they supposably just exterminated. They gave rules not to intertwine because it was not literal, God did not order the Israelites to literally kill every living person and this is clear in the following chapters. God has not changed over the ages, Man has changed over the ages. It’s important to remember that although sacred scripture is divinely inspired from God, it is not written by God but from God through Man.
On your first point referring to the “God of the Gaps” point of view, supporting the argument that God is a man-made construct to give explanations to things we didn’t understand in the past is easily dissectable. If you imply that our current discoveries on modern day physics and etc prove that there is no God, is pretty absurd. The big bang theory was created by a Catholic priest for crying out loud 😂 . Science cannot prove that God doesn’t exist. If anything it only helps to prove his existence.

I have an agnostic friend(male) who said it's difficult for someone to come to see the pro-life argument if they don't believe in God and I told them how I believe abortion is very anti-feminist. It tells women you can't, you aren't capable, you aren't strong enough, you can't do this on your own. The pro-life side(heavily led by women) says you've got this, you can do it and we're going to be there for you and your baby, here's healthcare, here's shelter, here's food and clothing, etc., stay strong.

Typical religion of Aethism: bait with a lie, then act as if we have to prove the obvious to a mind already closed that proudly thinks he is superior. That is just your peversion of mocking humor, it is evil. Jesus said to walk away and knock the dust off your sandles from people and places like that!. Jesus fulfilled the old testament and commands you to Love God and Love one another. Killing babies is murder. We all know abortion is being used mostly as birth control and for illegally harvesting body parts that un Planned parerenthood got caught doing! Those abortions are an "abomination". Look that word up in you bible studies and prayerfully open the closed mind that you are too lazy to use without lying. So I taught you several truths. Now teach me your false argument that Jesus condones killing or more productively go prayerfully read the Bible for the first time. Yes, God doesn't have any earthly political stance. However, I think He warns us not to be stupid either. Voting for a party (Democrats) who have espoused abortion on a grand scale, including the abortion of tull term babies, is MURDER and those who openly condone this will be held accountable, if not by men, then surely by our Creator. No party is perfect but that which openly declares the sanctity of life has my vote.

I truly TRULY feel that if we as Catholics start putting the same energy about voting our conscience and Catholic social teachings during the primaries instead of waiting until the general election to start talking about it, we could get candidates that better represent Catholic social teaching. But we don't, at least where I am from and in my experience. We have gotten too comfortable with saying "oh, well, this whole group is pro-life so any of them are fine" or we spend time justifying the MOST conservative candidate's view that opposes other Church social teaching. The Catholic vote is powerful and we have got to focus it on getting the BEST pro-life candidates and not just ANY candidates that are pro-life.

But let a man examine himself, and so let him eat of that bread, and drink of that cup. What's sad is that neither party truly represents ALL of our beliefs. Each one has contradictions to our beliefs, so we are left compromising somewhere. When I look at 3rd parties, they seem even more polarizing than the first two. I wish that we had candidates who did not constantly stick to party lines and stood out to represent Catholic and Christian values. This is why I do not align to a single party. I am a Catholic Christian first and foremost. I make them earn my vote each and every election.
Here's a question to get everyone fired up: Many of us vote based on one or two key issues... mainly around the "non-negotiables." The parties know that we vote for them based on those issue. Doesn't that remove their motivation to actually change anything about that? For instance, many of us are drawn to the right because of Pro-Life issues, and it brings the Republican Party a substantial part of their base. If we Roe v. Wade gets overturned, many would not show up in the same numbers. So do we actually believe the politicians will do anything about it?

Go back to the non negotiables you mentioned early on (especially abortion and euthanasia), and the choice is clear. Almost all Democrats (especially those on the national stage) support abortion through all 9 months, and some of them support leaving babies to die if they survive an abortion. Some Republicans do only pay lip service to the pro-life crowd, but some are working hard to limit and eventually ban these evil practices. I’m proudly voting for Trump in 2020 because (despite his flaws) he is the most pro-life president I’ve seen in my lifetime, and that is based on his actions, not just what he says. And don’t forget that appointments onto the Supreme Court and lower courts are in play here, and these appointments also effect the way our country goes on these important issues.

I also recommend Randy England’s book, “Free is Beautiful.” He is also a Catholic Christian.
There are some Libertarian candidates running for President that I cannot vote for, and if they become our nominee at the Convention, I will probably write in “Ron Paul” or “NOTA” like most libertarians who would rather not vote for evil.

If we are not to vote for someone because they support abortion (violation of the 5th commandment), isn't it equally as wrong to vote for some who is not Christian because they worship another god (violation of the 1st commandment)? What about person who supports unjust war (from a Catholic perspective), isn't that also killing? I do not understand how abortion and euthanasia are the only forms of killing that the church talks about.
    Please enlighten me

    • @amyj4283
      @amyj4283 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      themagicianschanel
Interesting observations. Here are my (jumbled) thoughts.
First, when it comes to abortion and euthanasia, you have to look at the intent of the acts. The intent of abortion and euthanasia are to destroy a life. In the case of euthanasia, sometimes the victim has a say, so its more like suicide. Other times their family members decide that their life should end. With abortion, from a philosophical perspective, it says a lot about the purpose of sex, of the body, and of life; so in this way contraception and abortion give into the other. Both defy the churches view of human sexuality, the theology of the body, and life. It says that the purpose of sex is not children, and in fact a child is the very enemy of intimacy between a two individuals. You either protect yourself from that end, or destroy it; both are valid. "my body my choice" indicates, with the help of contraceptives, that we can reprogram our bodies, aka destroy its nature, to act how we want it to, and when we want it to. The child is always the enemy that stands between restraint and "freedom". Contraception and abortion tell women that our fertility and children hold us back, from intimacy, career, and living. It's no surprise that we celebrate our "right" to both. So i think that the reason abortion is such a big deal is because its target is an innocent child, the intent of the act is to destroy that life SO that the mother could possibly go live her best life. And this act is celebrated in our culture. Euthanasia is a huge deal because it tells us so many lies, again, about the purpose of life, and of living. It says that ending our own life is better than suffering (abortion echos the same sentiment). Unjust wars are obviously unjust and I don't think any catholic should vote for a candidate that supports the concept of "unjust wars". And obviously, any type of war, just or unjust ends in killing. If there is a war that is going on we think is unjust, then we all have to speak against it. This can help to change the minds of those in charge. It's ironic because all three acts are part of the culture of death we have created, where human life in of itself has very little value. Ultimately, both abortion and euthanasia are clear moral evils in which people outrightly celebrate violence against other vulnerable human lives. With war, it's more complex because sometimes it is justified, but nevertheless, ends in endless death. There's always a "greater" goal with war, such as ending communism, ending slavery, etc. We ca break it down further and argue that within war itself there are acts that are completely immoral, such as a soldier killing innocent children for no reason (i don't know if that happens or not). The end goal of abortion is to remove a child from where it has a right to be, usually in peaces. And the end goal of euthanasia is to end destroy every cell of a person's being.
When it comes to candidates, the first thing we have to know is where we are voting for them to lead. Should we add "christian" to the qualifications for presidency? I think it has been important to know the person's religion because it usually tells us a lot about their beliefs. But today, it is not so clear. Atheism is a personal sin. Not being a christian is not necessarily a sin. A culture that embraces abortion and euthanasia, or unjust wars are not personal sins. A president that pushes for these things is unjust and is committing a huge abuse of power. So, i don't think that we should dismiss someone because of the possible and personal sin of not being christian, unless they put forth anti-Christian policies.

I believe the death penalty really should be only for the most horrific crimes - child killers (serial) and other serial killers. But my question is - what about the people that the criminals have killed? Didn't they take away that person's ability to convert to Jesus (if they had not already)? They cut their life short and any opportunity to find Jesus is lost. That's where my dilemma is. I can certainly see your point, but I keep thinking about the people they killed who were not given the opportunity for conversation as a result of their life being cut short.

If someone in the Catholic church say the most important topic is abortion, they are telling you vote republican because there are no pro-life democrats! Even for cases when voting republican or democrat, in the end, do not have real effect on abortion policies. There are other topics that are important as well, that if taken care, abortions could be indirectly reduced. It is not sane or balanced or realistic thinking that abortion is the only topic to talk about.

One doesn't need to educate, lower the taxes, & give Medicare from murdered people before they were born! I only have one issue that is the moral compass for all the other issues: Pro-life!!!

I understand Catholics do not believe in abortion and that is fine, Catholics should then tell their adherents never to consider an abortion. Yet many people are not Catholics & certain denominations actually put into writing as an article of faith that abortion is okay for its followers. Why push to outlaw abortion to the Protestants, Jewish, other religions or the non-religious who simply have different beliefs when life begins?

I know this video is a few years old now, but I still wish to comment.
I am not a member of any party. I don’t even like being called independent. I believe in voting for my conscience instead. If I feel a candidate will do well for what I believe in, I will vote for them regardless of what party…democrat, republican, or a third party. That’s just how I am; I will never join a party.

As for the abortion thing. They are also depriving them of baptism when they are aborted, which puts them in danger of hell/limbo of the infants, which is still a thing.
    And great video!

Possibly the earliest known instance of a Catholic priest serving in public office in the United States was Gabriel Richard. Born in France, he founded the University of Michigan and served as a delegate from Michigan Territory from 1823 to 1825.
Two priests, Robert Drinan and Robert John Cornell, have served in the United States Congress. In 1980, when Pope John Paul II decreed that priests not serve in elected office,[7] Representative Drinan withdrew from his re-election campaign, and Cornell withdrew from his bid to re-gain the seat he had lost in the 1978 Congressional election. In 1983, the prohibition on serving in governmental office was codified as section 3 of canon 285 of the Codex Iuris Canonici.

Just because a candidate says they are pro-life doesn’t necessarily mean they are. Any person that supports vaccines and vaccine development is not pro-life because in the manufacturing and development they use tissue from aborted fetuses.

Young people have made their politics their religion. Charity has been replaced by social programs, glorifying government above God.
Telling young people that the most important thing to do in their life is voting or political activism is disordered.
    Be Christian first.

When was this episode taped? So many things have happened that weren't mentioned. I hope next weeks episode addresses what is going on in the world today. We are fighting a pandemic, police brutality, racial injustice, and rioting just to name a few. We need to be allowed back in to our churches. We need open dialogue. We need Jesus Christ.

Don't listen the trolls. I don't know what the guys were hoping to accomplish, but they should have known that opening up a discussion of this topic on TH-cam would just empower them to come out in force. It makes no sense to add fuel to the fire at a time when 80% of Americans think the country is out of control.

Turn OFF the mainstream media and think for yourself. The police brutality, racial injustice, and rioting is just a smokescreen NOT based on facts that are designed to pit one racial group against the other. It is borne out of the forces of evil.

This is an open dialogue. I live in AZ where Scottsdale Fashion Mall was looted. I didn't need to listen to the media I seen it for myself. The state went in to immediate curfew. If you feel you live in a society where minorities aren't targeted. Where the police are always right. Where people of this world aren't angry. Then bully for you. God is trying to wake us up. He is saying enough. We must turn back to Jesus Christ. We must turn back to the Catholic Church. We must ask forgiveness. We must be better to our fellow humans. We must do better. Nothing that I just said is coming from the mainstream media. They do not speak of God or the Catholic church. They do not speak of Jesus Christ as the answer to our problems. I stand by all of my statements. May God bless everyone who reads this.

Both parties really fight for classical liberal and enlightenment philosophy so Catholics shouldn't support either parties. We need a Christian Federalist Party that actually protects Christian values.
