    I can't thank you 3 guys enough for this talk. I had a major shift in my thinking due to this. I struggle with the sin of anger and rage. While I've been praying for healing on this matter for a long time, I just didn't seem to be making much progress. Id say a rosary, have a long talk with Jesus about my renewed forbearance and find myself almost immediately becoming very angry for some reason or another But now, I just experienced a kind of healing because now I am thinking about what it really is in its inception. Thank you again. This is a very insightful talk.

    Wow, this got me thinking so much. I really need to write down my sins for when I go to confession next time. Pride is truly the mother of all these deadly sins. It’s the gateway. You lust because you’re prideful, you envy because you’re prideful, you’re a sloth because you’re prideful. You can truly link all of them back to pride.

  • @MDkid1
    @MDkid1 3 ปีที่แล้ว +11

    I wouldn't presume to say that I'm free from these sins, esp lust, but I will say that A LOT of prayer and frequent confession goes a LONG way to preventing many of these deadly sins.

  • @Fiona2254
    @Fiona2254 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    Pride was the first sin. Lucifer fell because of it and Adam and Eve also fell because of it: they all wanted to be like God.
    This is why pride is so difficult to conquer. I struggle with it because I don’t like to be told I’m wrong or how to do things. But I’m fighting it and trying hard to become more humble and frequent confession as well as saying “I’m sorry” (and meaning it) is helping.
    Go to confession, the Father is waiting for His prodigal sons and daughters!

      @@jk41shadow many theologians argue the Devils first sin was envy.. since it is the only sin where committing it does not benefit the person in any way, unlike the perverse satisfaction gained from the others. And in the devil's case it required a look at the good of another to want to take it from them and the motivation to do so is pride. But I agree with you of it being the first, since pride is the mother of malice and envy her sister.

      That's what I was going to say. When I was studying everything years ago, I read that the sin of pride was the sin of satan and it begets all other sins. When you uproot the sin, let's say, sins against the 1st Commandment, (thou shalt not have strange gods before me), your predominant god could be money and you might not even recognize it but you're in reality, you are living it. And at the root of that, you love money because of what it can do FOR you and your selfish interests. Pride is at the root of all kinds of spiritual maladies.

    I remember doing some work for the Church one Saturday morning with a young man in his early 20’s who proceeded to tell me that he thought he should make a video on humility. He of course would have the main or starring role because he was so humble that only he could teach others how to be as humble as him. And he said all of that in complete seriousness and with a straight face lol because he meant every word of it lol. I almost fell off the ladder I was on because I couldn’t contain my laughter lol See I thought he was joking because it was so ludicrous lol there was no way he could be serious but he was absolutely serious lol When it dawned on me that he was actually serious I laughed even more lol. I told him he should tell the priest his idea for the video at confession that afternoon and see what he had to say about it.
    To this day I remember the look of bewilderment on the other parishioners faces when they heard hysterical laughter coming from one of the confessionals lol. I love the way God works lol

    This video feels like a Catholic high school religion class from the 1970s where people believed that you needed to work to become a better person. Unfortunately, our current culture has taught us that we are already perfect and virtuous people from birth. This leads to the mindset that any feelings and desires are good and any suggestion otherwise is oppression of the human spirit.

    You should do an episode where you address actions people do in church that they should/should not do (or a tip sheet if it's not work a full episode). For example Orans posture when the priest says "we lift up our hearts" or at any part in the Mass, holding the hand of the person next to you during the Our Father, crossing yourself when you genuflect, kissing your thumb after you cross yourself, etc. At least for me, I learned some of these because of how my parents acted during Mass. I know some of these may have been common in the past but not anymore and I don't know what's correct and what's not.

    Whaoh, what teaching! I thought I was a christian all my life. How I wish I had heard good Catholic teaching, I might have been able to see the horrible amount of sin in my life. I am guilty of them all. I was going to say apart from sloth as I worked so hard at gaining material goods but that was avarice or greed in overdrive and I definatley was guilty of spiritual sloth. I was blind all my life. It is amazing how blinded I was. I would add Rebellion as another which is as the sin of witchcraft. That "poor me", deserving mindset rooted in pride was at the heart of all of them. I could not see. Satan has sifted me and the gates of hell have been opened into my life. I have been struck down with the worst depression with 100% insomnia and the worst death and exit from this world into hell for all eternity.

    I keep away from people because they have taken advantage of me, fake friends. I had to cut of my adult bullying siblings. They have too much pride to apologize and reach out to me. I forgave them. One of my older sister said if I tried to apologize they were not going to make it easy for me. I exposed my siblings bad behavior on Facebook. Most of our relatives saw it. They've falsely accused me, making fun of me for not having a good paying job. I'm the 7 of 8 children. I'm also the youngest daughter. I have 2 older sisters who are a year and 2 days apart. I have 5 brothers. One older brother is deceased. I was always close toy mom and my sisters hated it! There's too much to explain. I could write a book! Anyways, I'm tired.

    In regards to spiritual sloth, what if the person in your life, who has hurt you so badly and wishes death upon you and is unwilling to listen to anything you say and you know it, you decide to stay away far away from? I am in this dilemma. I am forgiving these three people, in my case, but nothing I say will change what they do. I do pray for them, but they are unrepentant about what wrong they've done and still hate me with a burning passion. At would result in a fight that I would not win. I may be harmed as well. Welsh knight - Think of the psychological benefits of going to confession: knowing that you have had absolution not just forgiveness. God does not hold a grudge against you. You have been absolved of your sins. About your comment about simply “going to God”, pick up your Bible and read John chapter 20 verse 23:
      Douay Rheims - “Whose sins you shall forgive, they are forgiven them; and whose sins you shall retain, they are retained.”

      ‭‭John‬ ‭20:23‬ ‭KJV‬‬
      www.bible.com/1/jhn.20.23.kjv
      New revised standard version - “If you forgive the sins of any, they are forgiven them; if you retain the sins of any, they are retained.””
      ‭‭John‬ ‭20:23‬ ‭NRSV‬‬
      www.bible.com/2016/jhn.20.23.nrsv
      New living translation - “Then he breathed on them and said, “Receive the Holy Spirit. If you forgive anyone’s sins, they are forgiven. If you do not forgive them, they are not forgiven.””
      ‭‭John‬ ‭20:22-23‬ ‭NLT‬‬
      www.bible.com/116/jhn.20.22-23.nlt
      Or the New American Bible - “And when he had said this, he breathed on them and said to them, “Receive the holy Spirit. Whose sins you forgive are forgiven them, and whose sins you retain are retained.” Thomas.”
      ‭‭John‬ ‭20:22-23‬ ‭NABRE‬‬
      www.bible.com/463/jhn.20.22-23.nabre
      Latin Vulgate - “Hæc cum dixisset, insufflavit, et dixit eis: Accipite Spiritum Sanctum: quorum remiseritis peccata, remittuntur eis: et quorum retinueritis, retenta sunt.”
      ‭‭Joannes‬ ‭20:22-23‬ ‭VULG‬‬
      www.bible.com/823/jhn.20.22-23.vulg
      Or if you know Kione Greek - “και τουτο ειπων ενεφυσησεν και λεγει αυτοις λαβετε πνευμα αγιον αν τινων αφητε τας αμαρτιας αφιενται αυτοις αν τινων κρατητε κεκρατηνται”
      ‭‭ΚΑΤΑ ΙΩΑΝΝΗΝ‬ ‭20:22-23‬ ‭TR1624‬‬
      www.bible.com/182/jhn.20.22-23.tr1624
      It is pretty clear that Jesus explains that we must confess our sins; so that they may be forgiven. This is Christ’s power working in the priest in the confessional. He is empowered to do this by our Advocate: the Holy Spirit. Confession is truly a place of victory. If you were baptized, then take a thorough examination of conscience and confess the sins to God through the priest. Directly to God as fostered through the Priest. If not baptized, join the church and have all of your sins truly washed away in the waters of baptism. I will keep you in my prayers that you may be blessed with the gift of the Beatific Vision, our end goal to simply see God in His ultimate glory and fullness.
      Pax Christi!

    There really is only one sin that'll send you to Perdition, that being a mortal sin that you have no intent to make up for- and one is all it takes come to think of it to completely ruin your soul for all eternity into utter and complete disaster.

      Truth.

    • @chissstardestroyer

      @@CatholicTalkShow Indeed, and no deadly sin is even a venial sin to begin with, whereas only mortal sin will do it, proviso we do not have any intent to repent- with the included requirement that we alter our lives to avoid such sin again.
      Why they're called "deadly sins" is a misnomer that shouldn't have ever occurred to begin with- tis in fact a lie from the magisterium due to its wording of the issue; and there're far more than merely those seven in fact. I know for one that fear, of all forms, including fear of the Lord, does indeed produce hatred of God for Him being the object of the terror in question, whereas pride would encourage me to accept Him as my adopted Stepdad through baptism and to put myself to service to others. That in particular is one way I know that the way the vatican produced them in fact creates hatred of God for how His agents worded things leading men into sin- without the specific man's consent. And for that, from a saint no less, is the sort of sin that'll send the saint to Hell for all eternity immediately due to scandalizing a member of the faithful; Christ Jesus will not put up with *that* kind of fooling around by His "friends", nay, as the Good Shepard, He'll execute them on the spot for that kind of an assault on His flock, and destroy the remains of those who, as His agents, betray the faithful like that. That definitely includes those closest to Him for that kind of foolishness on their parts- including inadvertent errors that produce sins on others' parts.
      Believe me on that detail, as He used terms for execution in regard to scandal; so it is that even a saint who's accused of scandal by the honest words of a member in this Earthly life, even without said saint's consent to the scandal, has no hope of even staying in existence due to His words of condemnation of scandal- entire worlds of eternity will be wiped out for merely leading a single person seeking holiness into sin, even without the consent of those who lead him to sin, as Christ guaranteed, so it shall be done.
      And I solemnly guarantee you, that a number of those who've been canonized will be found on Christ Jesus' left and lost to Perdition, as well as all who happen to call upon them for any aid, even without knowing of it, if but one of those holy ones leads any, and I mean any, through any circumstance, to sin!

      @chissstardestroyer 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@CatholicTalkShow Addendum: it's not even to permit myself to even get anywhere *near* God, that's the fruit of humility: the ultimate rejection of all spiritual things, period, for them even *being* or *existing* as spirits, that includes God for sure... in fact, the hatred of God also comes out of humbling myself towards Him, as if I do that, He then becomes a monster to be wiped from existence for the safety of all, whereas if "infected" by pride of any kind, which's far worse still, according to the "7 Deadly Sins teaching" of the magisterium of the Catholic Church, is the only thing that'd give me the inclination to even approach God to begin with. In fact, if completely humble, I'd be prohibited from having anything to do with Him, even to the length of believing the materialism of the Soviets of the 20th Century, monsters that they were, their system of matter being the only thing that exists, or could be *permitted* to exist, period, is the ultimate fruit of the summation of humility, as then we're no better or worse than anything else material, in fact, merely for having an immortal soul; we're far worse than the rocks and dirt in the ground, as due to them merely being strictly matter, we are worse less than them.
      Now *that* is the ultimate level of humility for a human to attain, the belief and certainty, that all things spirit in nature are worthless vermin, completely and utterly evil in their own nature, whereas strictly matter beings that've never been ensouled ever, nor could they ever have a spirit infused into it, now *those're* the ultimate in level of being.... all spirits in their nature are summed up by the idea of the devil: all spirits, bar none, are intrinsically evil in and of themselves, whereas matter in and of itself is wholesome, intrinsically dignified, and completely sacred, however the spirit is the ultimate in terms of vermin, something to be wiped out of existence period.

    With regard to Forgiveness...
    It is my understanding that Forgiveness is to acknowledge that the person who has wronged you or your loved one is not expected to make restitution to you for their action. You do this out of love and recognition of God's mercy for this person. However, if this person and/or his actions have caused and will in fact put you or your loved ones in danger, is "reconciliation" with that person required. I'm living in this situation currently- good advice please?

    The Catholic perspective on this is certainly 'acceptable,' but in every case, nothing separates us from God's eternal love. However, we must be diligent with prayer and repentance. Talking faith is one thing; living true faith in the Lord, Jesus Christ is what separates us from the judgment that every one of us deserves. Living to His glory, and passing the fact of the Gospel to others who are lost will give us joy in this Earthly life, but these acts will never be sufficient for His forgiveness. Go to God with prayer and supplication and ask Him for His forgiveness, and even though mankind is incapable of eliminating sin, we must never give up trying!
