    To all people with ocd (like me ) - I know its really hard for u all .
    But trust me making urself strict against this will help u take control over these compulsions .
    All u have to do is tell these negative sounds or thoughts that its enough and iam done .
    Trust me i controlled 80% my ocd like this . And iam in a much better controlled situation now .

      How do we distinguish what's rational, and what's over the top/our ocd. ? Like.. even when I'm trying to not clean all my grocerys right now as it's been said there is no evidence you can catch it that way.. most of the time I camt NOT clean them. Espically if it's an item I'm going to use right away. I have to clean my entire car evryday I hate it ..

    • @sashabenariel1
      @sashabenariel1 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Vee, your question of how can we distinguish whether it’s ocd or not, is a question that is coming from your OCD mind. The answer is that you will never know for certain. Nobody does. The difference between you and someone who doesn’t suffer with ocd is that you “feel” uncertain about your actions concerning this, while they “feel” okay with the uncertainty. The only therapy you can get while still following the rules to avoid Covid, is to do what the CDC says and everything else that doesn’t sound clear or isn’t understood fully yet you have to learn to accept. Because life is uncertain and ocd wants you to be certain. And the more you give in to ocd, the less you can live your life without being tortured by uncertainty.

    I do not think it I is compulsive right now to be watching the news non stop. I am so tired of people that have no clue as to what is going on. I have a friend that won’t quit shopping even when I tell her she could get this virus and she needs to stay indoors. She says she is just not an indoors type of person. I can see how anyone would be wanting to know what is happening and should not consider this obsessive.

    I have anxiety but not OCD but one of my first thoughts I had when I realized that Covid 19 was spreading worldwide was worry not only for the elderly and vulnerable but also for people with OCD who will undoubtedly suffer. I can't imagine how distressing it could be to get to a certain point in your life, feeling like you've got some control only to have the Pandemic happen and all those years of work you put into yourself be undone. I'm very lucky in my current circumstances that I live in a small town and we are half an hour away from any city, and that city is a small one. My immune system is strong (except through allergy season) and so is my family so I really don't worry much about it. I'm young and most of my family is young. I'm not afraid that I'll get it, I'm afraid that I could spread it. So I stay at home.

    There is also issues with ruminating thoughts of past situations that will replay over and over again, because people with OCD are forced to stay indoors they deal with these thoughts every day! They will remember past trauma and it constantly replays in their minds when they are in their homes.

    Although i'm an ADHD person, but throughout this lockdown period, I began to diagnose with OCD as well, everytime I go out, my anxiety started to rise when I see there are many people shop, and also, every minute I always sanitize my hand even though i've sanitized a minute ago, when I arrived at my house, I began to disinfect the grocery plastics, wiping the door handle etc. plus washing my hands using WHO technique, santize my hand once more and then take a shower.

    I have OCD and it’s not fun. People (mostly some of my friends) will say they have it to act “cool” but it’s not like that. Having my disorder is hard with have to make sure my phone charger is in all the way or else my family will be in danger or if my bathroom door is closed because my sister might be in danger. And yes I have to do those 4 times (4 or 8 is my numbers I use a lot).

    My son is 13 and was diagnosed autistic 7 years ago. He has eczema on his face and won’t touch his face and if he does, he will rush to wash his hands as after it got infected he thinks he is infectious (to be fair it has flared up repeatedly) . He went from a boy who loved hugging me to pulling his head away whenever I try to touch his head or give him a hug. Since the pandemic he washes his hands constantly. Often taking 30 minutes and washing them multiple times. He won’t let my husband or daughter come in the house without showering and even though we were allowed people in our homes for a short while he refused to allow anyone in. I am vulnerable/ on the shielding list and my son and I are very close - he is terrified of me dying. We are trying to get him support, it’s hard to know what is literal interpretation of rules and what is possibly OCD.

    I have/had this and it’s been a year of me wanting to not contaminate stuff with myself but I have let go, maybe like 20% remains but I’m touching public door handles and other germ ridden items and not washing immediately after. Just try to let go and even if you’re compelled to wash just sit still and do nothing. The urge will go. I still don’t like touching food directly and eating it with dirty hands but that’s kinda normal and good hygiene, there’s small steps you have to take to control it

    It's the same for me before coronavirus or now as with coronavirus it's the same cleaning rituals. I always wash my hands anyways even my phone when I touch the slightest something that -has not been washed- even if that object is at home. I wash my phone with soup and water just like how I wash my ha ds. When I buy make up products or any other products they are not placed in my room untill I wash them with soap many times. Even with my clothes it's the same, I only wear clean clothes when sitting on my bed. It's hard to wash shoes every-day, so I wear the shoes when I'm outside and when I return I wash my feet. I also wash any skin that is exposed. And most of the time I just have showers. I always make sure when I'm outside and my hands are dirty cuz I touched the slightest something I'd never touch my hair or my face no matter how messy my hair gets. I bear the messiness and go the bathroom and wash my hands multiple times just so that I can fix my hair.

    What about people with phobias? Like the ones that are afraid of being indoors. Or people who are germaphobes. I think there’s anti-anxiety drugs they can take Lorasapan.

    **Please stop using the abbreviation OCD (since this says it is a “disorder”); it’s disappointing that even many organizations that tend to be more progressive in supporting Neurodiverse individuals still use this abbreviation.*

    Now everyone is OCD. Which is good for OCD people. Because OCD is the new normal.

      You can't "get over" OCD. It is a chronic mental health disorder.
