      Jeff Jorgensen my PSTs are good, I pass the push ups, sit-ups, pull ups, and run without any issues... the 500 yard freestyle is a struggle though. I don’t have a swimming background but I’ve been working on it lately. I’ll implement the sprint work you mentioned in the video and I’ll keep you updated!

    I realized in a pool many years ago, that if I jst relaxed and enjoyed myself I could hold my breath for a very long time. It's definitely a mental thing.

    When I was preparing for Air Rescue Swimmer School in 2009, I literally did not know how to swim at first. I received one swim lesson from my dive motivator and then swam 2000-3000 yards per day, 4-6 days a week for 11 months before leaving for boot camp. My local YMCA (northern Wisconsin) let me work out there for free because I had a military ID (Delayed Entry Program ID). Hopefully other people are given this opportunity. Your recruiter may be able to help.

      Similar story for me. I swam at the local YMCA a few times a week. I started about 6 months before shipping. Continued my routine once I got to Pensacola waiting to class up. Swam in the bay and at the UWF pool.

      @@willhanna2708 Yeah I'm pretty ok with treading with fins but quite terrible without them, I can go a few minutes no hands with a breaststroke kick my main fear is the treading with no fins in 800 boot.

      For treading flutter kicks r good but also remember to keep as much air in your lungs as possible, inhale, hold for 10 seconds, slowly exhale and repeat, air will help keep you floating

      Lots of running and swimming, build up your endurance for those, and working out your core calisthenics, if your overall solid on running, swimming, push-ups, sit-ups, and pull-ups, then you will do fine and it’s just mental endurance from there

  • @christianpedro5188
    @christianpedro5188 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    And my question was about the treading water. I can’t find any info on the technique needed to tread with fins on. Is it with straight legs with slight bend in the knee as if you are swimming normally just vertical ? Or is it more of a stair stepper type motion , which I feel is the easiest. Thank you

    • @TheRescueSwimmer
      @TheRescueSwimmer  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Great question, it’s all about the slight bend. Just like a swimming horizontally just a longer stride. Don’t... I repeat don’t ever stair step.

    Im 18 female that was originally going AE (aviation electrician) but my recruiter and his boss told me my test scores made me a specops candidate and that i should consider it because its a once in a life time opportunity and no other female has done it where im from (Puerto Rico) they told me the jobs and AIRR was the only one i trully liked and was familiar with. When i was in the USNSCC (sea cadets its a youth program) i when to mini bootcamp and got a 3rd class swimmer qual. I say again i am not a strong swimmer but very commited when i know i have a shot at something but i need to know is it a bit insane to go with an AIRR contract and not be a strong swimmer to begin with? And not to mention that the covid quarantine has made my run time slower that before ( i went from 10min to 18min, im not fat im just a bit to skinny and currently can only do 30 pushups and 3 pullups ) is what im doing insane? Help

    • @Highinthesky-ev6jx
      @Highinthesky-ev6jx 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Actually what you're doing is not insane and you're at a pretty decent spot considering I didn't even know how to swim when I first took the pst . After a couple months of training i finally got an AIRR contract and I'm continuing to train harder and harder . That's the mentality you need and if you got it, then best of luck to you 💯

    Would you say to go straight for it or cross rate? I need to bring my asvab score up for AIRR so I don’t know if I should take a rate I may like off of my current scores or try and raise the score and enlist as a AIRR

    • @TheRescueSwimmer
      @TheRescueSwimmer  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's much harder to cross rate after joining, and is never for certain. My advice would be get your ASVAB line scores and once you get the scores apply. Even if you try and cross rate after joining, you still need to meet those same line scores.

    I’m in A school for MM almost done my cppa( liaison ) said that we can get a AIRR contract if we get our 2nd class swim. Don’t know if this true or not have you seen this in the fleet. Some of the swim instructors in bootcamp were BMs and other rates.

    • @TheRescueSwimmer

      +Pongii a second class swim quail doesn’t do anything other than allow you to apply for a AIRR contract. To apply for AWS or AWR, it is a prerequisite to have completed a second class swim qual. There are many people in the navy who have second class swim quads but aren’t rescue swimmers.
