- A slightly late and slightly shorter video after a long week of RAIN RAIN RAIN!!! But, rain doesn't completely stop play and Mark and I make some progress transporting an exciting new addition to my plot! There's also lots of new plants and garden-y related things to share in the wake of a garden centre trip, my birthday, and - of course - the long-awaited Malvern Autumn Show!

Aw thank you Clare. I've felt quite emotional this week too - 'it's my birthday and I can cry if I want to' has been running through my head all week!! Partly because of back to work stress, but also in a good way because - as you say - I've been blessed to with lovely gifts and lovely friends. Feeling quite exhausted after this week despite getting very little gardening done! 🤣

Great to see you and Dorie Kerry Belated Happy Birthday🎉. Thanks for the tip about the Alstromerias I'll lift mine for the Winter. Everywhere looks great despite the rain. Congrats on the new greenhouse 🎉
Aw thank you Therese. Alstromerias might be ok over winter in nice free draining soil - and one did survive last winter, but then it was repeatedly slugged so never really got going - I think it'll do better in a pot!

I'm watching this video and listening to the rain on the windows. It is a welcome relief to see your video as always and so glad you managed the meet up at Malvern, it's a show I would love to go to but too many train changes from my home and we would have to book accommodation as not doable in one day without a car. Ive managed two days at the plot this last week, one completely dry one dodging showers, I haven't been able to get there for two half weeks as both me and hubby have had covid. I was dreading seeing what it would be like but thank goodness all was OK and lots of tomatoes had ripened in my absence. I just hope with all this rain that the plot doesn't flood, we're like you prone to flooding. I hope you have a good holiday and lots of sunshine I think we could all do with sunshine right now, oh and belated happy Birthday, you received such lovely thoughtful present.
Hi Liz. Oh so sorry to hear you've had Covid - I hope you're feeling better now. Glad the plot got on with things even in your absence - I hope mine is doing the same! I might try and pop in between showers when I walk the dog later and see if there are any tomatoes. The courgettes seem to have given up now and I've harvested all the normal sweetcorn. Plenty of greens though and the beetroot should be fattening up with all this rain (she says, they could be just drowned!!). Thank you for your lovely comments Liz.

I’ve not stopped yawning on the journey home, could have done with a three day weekend.
Will get my kefir in the fridge as soon as I get home. Left in the car overnight where it is cooler. So excited to get a batch going 🤗

Ooh, a second greenhouse - how exciting! Mark is such an enabler for under-cover growing structures 😂😂 It’s awesome to see all of you meeting up, it feels like you are part of a gardening gang. Where the though life is all about swapping supplies and finding bargains to further your gardening habits 😅
I’ve been under the weather for a couple of days, and suddenly it’s proper autumn. Thankfully I’m off today, and can do some catching up. I’m collecting the remaining tomatoes today, as well as clearing out of the greenhouse. Hopefully I also get to painting our shed, as temps are dropping into «too cold to paint» temps in a few days. And I’m pretty sure our neighbors would prefer not to se a half-painted shed all winter 🫣
He really is an undercover enabler 🤣 - he's putting up a second poly on his plot soon! Once you meet one another in person it does feel a lot more like a real group of friends. Hope you're feeling better now - yep, Autumn crept up although in some ways it feels like it's been here all along! I've got 'greenhouse clear and clean' on the to do list - but in reality prob won't happen until November! Don't overdo it when you've been poorly - worse things than a half painted shed (I mean, look at my shed!! 🤣🤣🤣)
The greenhouse upgrade is going to be great for next year's growing, very exciting!

I know how you feel, am a teacher working evenings, examiner travelling around the country throughout the year and I home educate my two little boys, so finding time to keep on top of the garden, see friends and family and make TH-cam videos sometimes seems a bit much! Hiya! Great video again and I went to Malvern for the first time on the Saturday. We were lucky with the weather and what a show it was! I’ll definitely go back next year
This was my third time now, and I think we'll be going back next year for both the Spring and Autumn shows. It's a nice day out, reasonable priced, and not too far for us to travel. Win!
Wow! Since I live in Southern California, I am jealous of the rain. It has been months since we had an rain. Fortunatly last fall and winter we had a good amount of rain. I’m hoping for the same again this year, since it is terrible when we go through a drought. 🌧️
I am always looking for scented pelargoniums too! I have several rose scented ones and a nutmeg one.
Ohh - I want to send some your way!! Are you allowed to collect rain water? I thought in some states they don't allow it...
Malvern looked like fun :) The rain is getting tiresome, it feels like it waits for my days off, so I've been practising recipes with my glut of green tomatoes
Oh good idea! I'm gearing up for the green tomato chutney... if I can get them in before the blight takes them all 🙈 Malvern was fun! I do enjoy a gardening show, and lovely to meet up with people.

I was there on the Sunday too, but i couldn't find where everyone was meeting up, so i missed you all! Last year at the Malvern Spring festival i also missed the meet up! It would be much more fun meeting up with like minded people than walking around with my husband ( he's lovely but has no interest in gardening!)...People may not know just how bad the phone signal is there! But i did buy some nice plants ❤
Vodaphone was rubbish signal.

@@dogontheplot I was on the show ground WiFi, still doesn't help when you're trying to find someone! I think they need to fly a TH-cam flag next time, or have someone in a rainbow wig!
Just a thought, you could turn the new greenhouse into a small fruit cage, replacing the glass with netting. It would protect blueberries etc from birds.
The glass taken from the new greenhouse could be used to full in the missing glass in your home greenhouse and also on the one you used this season for your tomatoes.
You should be able to buy a DIY simple cutting tool should any panels need re sizing.
It could solve having to source glass for 3 greenhouses plus give you a lovely small netting cage high enough to walk into to harvest and tend some of your much loved fruit.
Just an idea.

Ohh we're on the same page Rosanna! Totally an option that I'm toying with. I do need to see about glass fitting etc. Also, I need to think through the fact that I might have to pass the new greenhouse on again at some point and then I'd need to put the glass back... but yeh, it did come up as an option!

It was so much fun! Erm, I don't know what I'm planning to be honest Julie. I'm on Danny's live in a couple of weeks and I think the topic is planning for next year and I've not got a clue!! Everything feels very up in the air... But then again, I'm a go with the flow kinda person so we'll just see and what will be will be!!
Lots of rain this week it's wild in Whitby today 🙄 but great for digging and planting out stuff I've put about 20 plants into the ground in my back garden borders over the last week 🌿🪻 noticed quite a few butterflies flitting about too 🦋🦋🦋 I pulled a carrot up to see how they were coming along and my grandson Noah scoffed it straight away after a quick rinse under the tap 🥕 it was only about 3" long but he loved it 😋 autumn has definitely arrived my gardens are full of fallen leaves now 🍂🍁 I think I'll scoop them up and throw them into the borders 🌿 love the new trug ❤️
Aw you sound like you're doing Autumn well Helena - this is how I need to do Autumn!! I've got so much stuff that needs planting out and I know it's the perfect time - I just need a dry spell and a breather from work to crack on!

Here in the States hurricane has caused WAY too much flooding/destruction for many. Awful! I’m thankful we were not in the path although we are in drought, but no one needs that much rain especially near mountains.
Nice greenhouse = more work😂. I’m hoping we get to redo ours this year with heat sink.
We are heading into fall, but it’s been so warm later this year that plants are still going. Usual frost in Wisconsin is 9/25 so maybe soon.

Thank you Trude. It was a lovely day out. I'd like to keep the small one (for sentimental reasons) but am cautious of being greedy! No rush for decisions as we head into winter so will see what pans out...

Lovely video Kerry and happy birthday! The weather has been pants hasn't it! I've barely got anything done either, although managed to clear a bed yesterday, so it's a start! I love the Claret Astrantia, mine has been limping along as it was in the wrong spot, but I moved it this year and seems to be picking up a bit, fingers crossed! I've a, 'Where did you get that hat..🎵' ear worm now! 😂
Haha. Now, tell me where I shouldn't put this astrantia!! I put one in a very dry spot and that died, so I've been going with the moister areas but I don't have much with full sun...
@@dogontheplot I found mine struggled a bit in full sun, just kept wilting, though I was rubbish at keeping it watered to be fair, so it would have probably been better once it had established! My garden is pretty much a south facing slope, so it bakes in the summer (clay chalk soil which cracks - it's crap!), so perhaps in other places/aspects, full sun would be fine- I've seen it growing beautifully in full sun on sandy soil, so frankly it's anyones guess! Dappled shade is good , but not too much shade, I don't think they are a fan of being sodden either. Clear as mud then! 🤣
