After planting the tulip bulbs, place a metal mesh on top and sprinkle it with soil, this will prevent squirrels from digging up the bulbs, while at the same time the sprouts will be able to easily grow through the mesh.
I am such a BIG, BIG fan of yours...all the way over here in SC, southeastern USA. I have a country place with cottage gardens, too, but your property is my definition of heaven on earth! I could just listen to your beautiful, soothing voice all day long. Thanks for every video. You greatly inspire us all whose "therapy" is yard work, better known as playing in the garden! Lol Keep up the good work! I'll always be ready to watch!
Keep doing the good work Really proud of you Thank you for Healing us Hope this compliment reaches you and makes your day We are grateful just first time had the courage to write here 💚 Learn something new everyday because of your channel watch your reels abd story daily on Instagram
I look forward to seeing these in your garden! I have a lot of squirrels, and I put a couple handfuls of small sharp rocks in the hole when planting , and then sprinkled in the fill. It has worked so well, as they don't like digging through the grit. Doubt that will work with badgers though. I Love your big crocus, we tried a couple times to plant them, but bunnies eat most of them, so mostly tulips, daffodils, and allium, and they do naturalize pretty well here in Illinois.
Jonquils go really well in damp boggy conditions. We back onto a creek and they’ve naturalised down near the back hedge. It’s gumboots only down there half the year.
I have just finished planting all my bulbs for the Spring and am also hoping that they don't all get eaten as they did last year. Being a gardener requires extreme optimism! Best wishes from Wales
Your videos just make me so happy, thank you. I saw your book,,, WOW,,,, thought,,, YES,, i can get it for crimbo time,,, but no,, have to wait to spring next year ,,, aaaarrrggghh !!!!!!!.... love your ducks.
I have been your subscriber for a few months now. Seeing your wonderful garden and the hard work you put into it gives me a lot of relaxation and inspiration. Please be proud of yourself💚💚💚💚
Good luck with your newly snug house this winter! A good idea. I was interested to hear that you can plant tulips deeper to keep predators from digging them up - I will have to try them again, after giving up on them. :) Love your sweater (jumper)!
I have to get my hands on some of those massive alliums. Slowly building up my English Garden. I am going to take your advice and leave the leaves on the beds. I might mulch them up first.
I’m in Tennessee, so I know it’s a little different from where you are, but we sell a product at the nursery I work at that you mix in with the soil that voles and squirrels don’t like to dig through. You could do that around your tulips so nothing digs them up. One is called mole go and the other is called permatil. Permatil is a kind of sharp gravel that they don’t like digging through and mole go has castor oil in it and it irritates their whiskers so they don’t dig through it. Maybe y’all have something similar at your local nursery.
Maybe you could try and plant one half of the tulips near your house and the other half up in the garden? If the badgers destroy only one half you still can enjoy the other ones :) Love your videos! I was very pleased to see that the new video was online today. Perfect treat after a hard day at work :)
Your garden looks beautiful! I wish I could have one as beautiful as yours, but I have a very small garden. It must be so hard taking care of it all. And welcome Wednesday to the runner duck flock!
Yaaay new video !! And you said you did not want to plant any bulb this year ❤😂 I see you could not resist. I have planted a few dozen myself 🌱 dafodils and tulips (botanical and these white/lilac ones 🌷🪻)
I put an old window screen on top of my bulbs, and then layer mulch on top so I can't see the screen. When it gets to the time of the year when my tulips start to grow, I remove the screen and it seems to work for keeping away the squirrels
Please, please, please 😀 - what is the right depth to plant the tulips?? This is the first time I hear such information, that it could help avoid dividing them. That is my biggest problem - every year I have thousands of daughters instead of one BIG strong mother bulb. I would be very thankfull if you could solve this issue for me 😅 Thank you!
I’ve only just found your videos so this has been a lovely place to start! On a side note - is that a hand knitted jumper and if so could you share the pattern?
I thought it was just me who has a greatly diminished bulb show. Of the bulbs I plant I think I have a 60% show the first year and maybe 20% the year after. Could be less than that considering how many bulbs I have planted and yet I only see just a little evidence of them being eaten by rodents or deer. (Front of house garden, outskirts city of Oxford, UK)
I have the same problem and have found that planting them in pots seems to be the only solution; not sure why, as I have added sand to my soil and tried to make it have better drainage to no avail.🙄

Saffron crocuses are so beautiful with the light shining thtough the petals!

I do love the UK gardeners! With love, from the southeastern US state North Carolina.
Fellow North Carolinian here and feel the same 🙏 gardens just aren’t as grand as they are here than in Europe

One of my favorite garden videos. Thank you❤
Whatever’s coming down the pipeline, I hope it involves narration of some kind, I consider you the David Attenborough of gardening :P
absolutely!!
😂
I was soo waiting for this video :D

I think about 20cm is the right depth with that in mind ☺️
Thank you very much! And is it your personal experience or is it some new secret bulb planters recomendation? 😀
16:01 How deep are you going to plant your tulips? 🌷
Yes, that is the right question! I am really very curious about it.
Aiming for 20cm deep but not being too concise 👍🏻
@@monalogue Thank you! 🩵
I like your ducks, but when I showed a video of yours with them my husband - a great meat eater , you won't know what he told me 😊😂😂😂
❤
😊❤
Please plant the tulips nice deep and use chicken wire to protect them
I’ve only just found your videos so this has been a lovely place to start! On a side note - is that a hand knitted jumper and if so could you share the pattern?
Thank you so much and welcome! ☺️ I believe it is hand knitted but I bought it from the charity shop so I’m afraid I don’t know what the pattern is.
@@monalogue ah well it's lovely! Nice to be here!
I came here to ask the same thing! I believe it’s the Sunday Sweater by Petite Knit 😊
@ oh lovely - I’ll look it up!

Oh interesting! Is the soil damp enough that they may have rotted in the ground? It is mysterious isn’t it
