    Goodness Stanley, RESPECT for posting. If it were me I would have hooked up a chain and towed. I used to deal with this daily in BC and Labrador when we had to tow everything from pickups to 200t cranes up. Clear then tow... you can buy cheap truck chains also... used them for years towing heavy loads with pickups up logging roads. Worked incredible. We also studded ours skid-steers tracks for the winter months. For a grand you would be set for these situations...

    Always fun getting up a hill loaded and it's slick out. I have spined all the way up a hill before in the semi. As long as it was moving I wasn't stopping. Don't want a fully loaded semi sliding backwards down a hill. Should look into full lockers for your plow trucks. Had full lockers in my mud truck and it was a beast never got stuck with it. Of course having a truck like that I got a lot of phone calls at 2am I am stuck and need help.

    For the 'next' time, could you have pulled the logs over the first hill before bucking and loading them? Then when you got to the second hill you could have unloaded if necessary.

    @ericrosolack4561 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    I agree Stan has a great leadership style! I've looked at the first 20 or so comments--why hasn't anyone mentioned tire chains? All you would've had to do is chain up 2 tires and it would've been enough. 4 tires chained would've been no challenge at all to drive out. And the logs that were unloaded out of the trailer could've gone into the back of the truck where they would've helped improve traction to the driving wheels, but by far the most effective action is simply chaining up even if the chains are only used for this one adventure they would've paid for themselves.

    I've seen a couple comments pointing out two very helpful things that could have been done.... moving those rounds to the back of the truck and investing in a pair or two of tire chains. They run about $150-200 for a good pair of V-bar 4 link and $300 up for v-bar 2 link (a cross bar of chain every other link of the side chain). I wouldn't own a plow truck with out 'em just in case.

    Please don’t take this as a negative comment, I’m not sure how viewers are supposed to give an opinion on a tool that your guys are using, but I do have a few thoughts and theories about tools, in this case the chain saws, if your buy a saw this inexpensive you should expect an issue or two with it like the pull rope breaking, that’s an easy fix and you can up grade the pull cord to better quality and you may have to up grade the fuel line it’s probably cheap stuff too, other than that I think it would be a decent home owner saw or small business saw, I don’t think it would be a good everyday saw just a small project when you need a saw, that’s my two cents worth

    Holzforma has been making replacement parts for Stihl and Huskies for years and has recently been selling complete saws, They have theire problems which were fixed using OEM Stihl parts starter rope, oiler pump, gas line, yet still seeing a substantial saving over a Stihl saw, G444 vs my 30yr old Stihl 044 it has been cutting wood for the last 6mths 10 full cord dropped and bucked into fire wood. Holzforma also has a line of bar and chains out now.

    • @justinbodey7962
      @justinbodey7962 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      1000 lbs of toungue weight is pushing the truck going downhills and is being pulled up hill. Tounge weight is different than load weight. Load weight in the truck equalizes to a large degree the load weight of the trailer. With the large load weight in Stand trailer, he has the tail wagging the dog almost literally with the truck being the dog. I absolutely agree that the snow and ice have a lot to do with the issues at hand as well but weight and weight distribution definitely come into play as well and being a little more cognizant of that, in my opinion would have gotten that puppy over the hill and much less likely to jacknife.

    • @RiverValleyLandscaping
      @RiverValleyLandscaping 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@justinbodey7962 I agree, even having all the guys hop in the bed of the pickup for some extra weight over the rear tires might have made the difference in traction with a running start, my dads old tiny Nissan pickup which was basically one wheel drive would get up any hilly snowy road while awd subarus were crashing off the road... besides the drivers of course, the difference being how skinny his tires were and the ratio of weight to surface area, wide tires on 3/4 ton trucks like stans basically are only floating over the snow and not sinking down to grip the hard ground

I may end up doing it with a f450 or 550 though, either way im gonna have a kitty cat in it and probably paint it dewalt yellow, stihl orange or black heavy bumpers and big blue kobalt boxes on the bed on three sides around a 5th wheel if possible or build a custom western hauler style bed for it. Stan Have you tried a set of tire chains for the woods??? We run chains as soon as we get packed snow/ice. Spinning tires fast on ice and snow usually does not gain you traction. The spinning melts the ice/snow and creates a water bearing at the point of contact. So we put the pickup in low range and install the tire chains. With the speed limited we do not have to worry about making the chains be real tight. Running in low really helps the pickup truck too.
    As for the Chinese chain saws. A friend of my oldest son has two of them, Holzfforma chainsaws 660s. They are two years old now. My son and his friend cut 40+ cord of wood each year. My son is using two Stihl 066 magnums saws that I bought new in the mid 1990s. The first year they kind of cut the same as the Stihl saws. He had to tinker with the Holzfforma saws to keep them running correct. Carb adjustment seemed to vary. This last fall (Second cutting season) , The Holzfforma saws started losing power and became almost impossible to cold start. When we checked them both, each had low compression. When we disassembled the saws, the pistons and cylinder bores had worn badly for the hours of use. I ordered US made after market pistons that where close in size. I modified hardened steel sleeves for the bores. I honed matched the pistons and bores. The saws ran like they did when new. Then around Christmas the saws began to run funny again. This time the trouble was the Carburetors. The throttle shaft bores and shafts were worn to where they caused vacuum leaks. We adapted OEM Stihl carbs to them both. They are running OK again, for now.
    So in my opinion the Holsfform/Chinese Saw are built with lower quality materials. I think if you do not use them a lot of hours then they maybe OK for your use. If your going to run them hard then I say buy a good used Stihl/Husky saw if you can not afford the price of the a new Stihl/Husky saw.
    P.S. Our two Stihl 066 magnum saws are over 25 years old. Three years ago we put in new pistons and rings. We rebuilt the carbs then too. Other than that those two saws have had zero mechanical issues in the entire time we ran them. So with oil/gas, bars and chains a good quality saw will last/work for you a long time.

    • @Dirtmonkey
      @Dirtmonkey  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      That makes sense. they must be using lower quality parts that match the fit but not the quality.
