Ive built a couple of those farmertec saws in the past. The trick is to get the unassembled version which is a box of individual parts for $100 cheaper and you build it yourself. That way you can make sure everything gets deburred and goes together quickly. Another good trick is to replace any questionable parts like crankshaft bearings with OEM Stihl because its all interchangeable.

I was running this saw for about 2 hours at about a 30-50% duty cycle th-cam.com/users/postUgkxfQm1wmg0ItKDLavxj1nXtQY9HP7EF504 and it did a great job. I used the lever for the built in sharpener to clear chip buildup out more than to actually sharpen the chain. It managed to cut some hardwood stumps much larger than it's size without bothering the neighbors with hours of 2 stroke noise.

However if Stan were to get him a new truck since he loves his 1/4 ton crew cab s10 a new ford ranger would be right up his alley especially since they are awesome trucks or if he's a die hard Chevy guy a crew cab z71 Colorado would be good for him to even tho IMO the ranger is a better truck.

Stanley, to go off topic a little. Rather than 4 ratchet straps to tie down the skid steer, I used 2 and one chain. I generally hook up my front chain fairly tight. Then I pull the equipment back to tighten the chain. Only 2 ratchets are added in the rear. Cuts the time in half.

Ok so we had a windstorm here a couple of weeks ago, and a few of our big trees came down. I only had a 12” 40v chainsaw; and that wasn’t quite big enough to handle the trunks. So, on the basis of a few TH-cam reviews from some guys with judgement I trust, bought an Atlas 80v 18” chainsaw and two batteries.
So far, it’s working well... it runs for about an hour of almost continuous cutting per battery. The chain is compatible with an Oregon S62 available at my local Lowe’s, and although I haven’t tested it yet, it looks like the bar is compatible with an Oregon bar as well.
I’ve been loading the cuttings into a dumpster with my GC1723EB subcompact tractor; and that’s been working nicely as well.

Even though I'm not a chain saw guy I fully enjoyed this one. Can't wait for the next. For me the best part was the chopper audio over the drone footage, followed by the way that Alex would roll the logs and you would catch them in the ASV bucket. ...and yes, that was a close call for Alex, especially given the fact that he wasn't watching. Close calls can be good teachers. Thanks again.

I got real experience with these saws. I got the chinese 660. 50/50 in my book so far. I had it lose a piston pin circlip at the 4th tank of gas and trash the top end. The chinese sent me a new piston and cylinder kit free so I could fix it. It's running again but with not too much use. I got 2 of the 372xp clones and they aren't bad. They been doing the job for a year now. I sell about 50 cords of firewood a year and heat my house. I also got a hydraulic band mill and saw lumber from pine and hemlock I harvest. The 660 does run good right out of the box and is a beast.

    • @bozzaa
      @bozzaa 3 ปีที่แล้ว

@@Dirtmonkey Their customer service is in China and you gotta e-mail them with a language barrier. Shipping from China takes a while too. But hey, they sent me the parts to fix it at least. Can't complain there, although it should have never happened with such a simple stupid defect. I guess the wrist pin clip was a problem on allot of their different saws for a while. There's video's about it. You can order parts and saws direct from their website without having to buy on Amazon or Ebay. That's what I did. The good thing about these saws is the parts availability. If you buy a cheap homeowner saw from a box store there is no good parts availability. They change those saws all the time year to year and their like Bic lighters, disposable. And their small and weak. At least with these clone saws, their copies of the commercial Stihl and Husky"s and there's parts unlimited. I bought a G660 and G388, Stihl copies complete. I like the G388 (71cc). That thing runs good and good power without being too heavy. The 660 is heavy for the power it produces. I bought 2 Husky 372xp's, parts kits and built those saws from all the individual parts. And I bought a 372xp complete. So I know the saws inside out. So I got 3-Husky 372xp's clones, 1- G660 and 1- G388. I may buy another G388. The only one I had trouble with was the 660. And by having so many saws, the use gets divided up. If you were to use 1 all the time allot, it might show more weakness somewhere. I'm happy with them overall. I needed new saws and the real ones are too much money now. Pretty much a rip off. I had all real ones back in the day when they were more reasonably priced. www.farmertec.com/

But you need to use the log grippers to really use the saw to your advantage.. For sure on the big log.. Fwi I do know a little about sawing.. I grew up in North west Montana in the mountains.. Getting fire wood was a summer long ordeal.. I know you said it's easier to control the logs by using the bucket and lifting capabilities.. I built a 660 kit a year and a half ago and have used it for milling with a 36" and 56" bar. It starts right up every time and runs great. You have to clean the metal pieces out from manufacturing process because they don't do a very good job of it. I’m 19, so by no means am I a professional, but I have owned over 300 saws, mostly stihl. I build the farmertec kits, (same thing as the holtzfarma, just orange) I’ve torn apart hundreds of saws, and assembled hundreds of saws. I run my farmertec 660 on a 36” Alaskan Alaskan sawmill, as well as I’ve used my stihl 064. Unless your a pro running them everyday, relying on these saws to cut 100 trees a day, I don’t see a difference. Everything wears out, but I can put 10-20 piston and cylinder kits in my farmertec for the single price of my stihl.

Also, from what I’ve learned (again, not a professional) in foreign country’s their two stroke oil is far inferior to ours, and that’s why they have you running 25:1, but around here with a tc-w3 oil standard, we can run 40-1, or 50-1. Even more advanced oils such as amsoil synthetic, recommends 100-1 in a 50-1 setting.

for those curios the ms660 is 1100 new, not "a few grand" I personally own and run stihl, husqvarna, and the huztl saws. The knockoffs are fine if you know what you are doing with a saw, and are willing to get some oem or upgraded parts to make them last, expect to at the very least have to replace a jug once on the knockoffs if you use it somewhat regularly but as the parts are so cheap and are becoming readily available it is usually under $50 and an hour job after you have done it once or twice.

There are Facebook groups dedicated to these Farmertec and Holzfforma saws. The way they come from the assembler is lacking and the tune is off. You can hear that in how they run. The company that sells them from China are compilers of parts that are made all over the place in China. They sell kits and assembled saws. The company that sells them bought the plans for saws that patents have expired on. The parts they put together are from the original patents. Some are good and some are made horribly. HOWEVER. Since they are exact copies the oem parts fit exactly on them. Meaning, that it is know in the groups that there is a list of parts (choke lever, recoil string assembly, safety brake, oiler, bolts backing out, etc replace carb with oem high-flow unit) that need to he replaced. There are some builders that buy bulk packs of these saws then build and tune them. The difference is night and day in how they perform and last. If you use them "off the rack" they're barely ok. If you address the weak points you have pretty decent saw.

I use the G660 for milling. No it is not a Stihl, but it is pretty damn close and way less expensive. I went this route because you need the displacement for milling and I didn't want to drop over a grand to see if I liked chainsaw milling. Long story short, I love milling and this saw does it well. I would suggest buying from a dealer in your area. They will check them over and loc tite the proper screws and check them over before you get them. If you know your way around a stihl saw you will know your way around these clones as they are exact clone of them. If something breaks you can replace with OEM. Most people replace the carb and chain tensioner and sometimes the bar oiler or open it up some. Mine has aftermarket exhaust and high flow air cleaner and has been ported. This brought the cost up to about double of what a stock one costs, but I am very happy with the performance. Have put about 25 tanks through it so far and no issues.

Got my construction company to buy these cus it was way cheaper and parts are so easy to find and trade off of the stihl's we already had. You can't change out a lot of the body "plastic " but engine, bar, and other main metal parts change right over with some fitment issues i found on a few from lack of machine cleanup from manufacturing tolerances.

I can confirm, they wait until the patents are expired and remanufacture them out of lesser quality materials, often cutting corners to the production process. Definitely a case of you get what you pay for. And direct from china you often lack any kind of warranty support. Basically don't buy a cheap saw and expect it to perform and last like a name brand saw. As long as you understand that when you purchase the saw, and look after it appropriately they can be a reliable and functional saw,

    I like stihl.
Keep in mind, I’ve only used the professional grade stuff. I always use 2 - 3x the power then I need. My thinking is, the tool or equipment is over engineered for my work load then that’s the tool for me.
    1. It seems to last longer with less breakdowns by not over stressing or over working. Service departments don’t like that in-which is good for me.
    2. I’m not using so much fuel to complete a job
    3. High productivity with any laborers I may need to hire. Example, If I can complete 6hrs of work in 4hrs or 8hrs in 6hrs or 10hrs in 8hrs. (you get my point) Less wages need to be paid to laborers.
    4. The customers are happy & impressed with high productivity.
    5. Positive word of mouth reviews
    6. Keeps morale high. The laborers enjoy high powered over engineer equipment. Call it the “Tim Allen effect” more power
    Vs.
All the opposite of what I listed above.
But, I do understand the video experiment of the upfront cost of equipment. This is only going to be profitable if this China brand saw doesn’t burn-up under a heavy work load. So 400.00 for the 1st saw, providing it doesn’t need a replacement. Then you have to x2. So now that’s 800.00 plus expense of labor which isn’t included. So that put you right at the price or maybe just below of ms660. Why use a ms660 when an ms880 gets the job done much quicker? I got a 5yr warranty on my stihl stuff. Let me put it like this, when the US Forestry service or the Pacific northwest loggers start to using this China brand chainsaws then that’s when I’ll consider maybe using this cheap Chinese brand.

So far so good. Northern Canada, only used it in the -20 to -40C temp range as of yet. Oregon chains and bars. Only problem so far, decompression valve failed.
