30:10 "does this guy remember all the lyrics on stage?" one of the things i love about Geordie is that despite being able to memorise insanely complex pieces of music he very often either forgets his own lyrics or gets bored of them and just decides to sing something else or nothing at all. i only realised after sugar/tzu was released that in the original KEXP performance he's speaking gibberish for like half the song because he didn't have the lyrics worked out yet. I also liked a recent show where he changed some of his lyrics to be about Peep Show. There's a good deal of improv about it
@@Jake_Richards might’ve been their glastonbury 2022 set, when geordie introduced the band he also said “mark corrigan on the guitar, jeremy on the guitar”
It is an exciting concept, to think of genre as just another component of a composition. In a song you can change key, timbre, volume, tempo, etc. and use that to convey some emotion. Why not use genre just like that?
Black Midi is a band that took me a second to get into, but when I did, I really fell in love with their music and vibe, and your reaction to Schlagenhiem was the gateway for me, feels like we have gone on this band journey together in a way. Great reaction!
I'm glad somebody pointed out how good those lyrics are at that final part of 27 Questions. It's my favourite moment from the album and that's saying something.
HELL YES for Hellfire! I can say with confidence now that absolutely no band on earth is truly making music like these lads. Completely insane to me that they’re all in their early 20s. Omnium Gatherum soon for the channel OGs? (Pun acknowledged 😉) So glad you’re still doing your thing, Six! Big love from across the pond!
This album genuinely changed me, the transitions between the songs is incredible. I never listen to the songs individually because of how satisfying the flow between each song is
After initially overdosing a bit on Black Midi, I’ve recently gone back to them because of how magnificent Geordie Greep’s solo album is, ….’and’ ..because I’ve spent a limited amount of time on TH-cam music channels I was intrigued to revisit your channel to see if you’d reacted. You haven’t, and should at the earliest opportunity, but your Black Midi reaction has reminded me just why I subscribed to you in the first place many years ago. The outro of ‘Still’ is truly beautiful.
@@realkaibr Yeah, Black Midi and BCNR are good friends and they have a lot of fan crossover. Not sure if they tour all the time, but I know they're touring right now because BCNR's lead singer/writer left the band right before Ants came out, and the band promised not to play any of their stuff that included him out of respect. They're only playing brand new songs that the rest of the band wrote. They don't have a lot of songs to play, so they've just been an opener for Black Midi recently.
The first time i heard Hellfire all the way through I knew instantly I had to get it on vinyl. I was not disappointed, it sounds 10x more beautiful and chaotic on record.
Responding to your question regarding if the lead singer (Geordie Greep) remembers all the lyrics on stage, surprisingly he does. No stands or anything, he's absolutely insane.

Really respect how you play the actual vinyl for your first listen. Sounds like such a simple concept but not a lot of people ever do it. On one hand, it offers a more cohesive listening experience as intended by the band, which is awesome-on the other hand, it doesn’t give much of a break at all to comprehend what it is you just got hit in the face with (*especially* in the case of this one). Suppose anyway that if you wanted to pause the music, you could’ve used your tonearm lever. But I’m kind of glad you didn’t, this album actually somehow works better when it’s able to musically overwhelm you track after track. This also reminds me just how much better the album does with the much less compressed mix that they used to cut the vinyl. If there’s something that doesn’t need an ounce of dynamic range compression, it’s this. Even the most complicated sections are able to breathe here, with the intensity still intact, and it’s just a testament to the fact that we don’t need that added loudness in our music.
I just saw these guys live last night, and their drummer is indeed a goddamn phenom! He made a meal of the entire set, and regularly improvised even more complex fills and solos than what’s in the album. And he was the one giving cues to the rest of the boys. He literally carries the whole band on his back and makes it look easy. To answer your question: the singer Geordie Greep indeed has all his lyrics memorized. It’s honestly pretty incredible how well he can improvise his delivery while not missing a word.
Absolutely amazing album, my favorite from the band and my second favorite of the year, hope to catch them live someday, I live in Brazil so sadly that's not very likely :(

Love the work you put into making all your videos stimulating and engaging, much like the album you're reacting to here! Also, some 2-cents here: Cam (bassist) is possibly one of my favorite rock bassists with how his parts always add, never subtract. He's the biggest inspiration for me taking learning bass seriously.
I'm gonna see these folks tomorrow and i can't wait. I love your energy and steez. musically off top from Black Midi, but give BC Camplight "Shortly After Take Off" , I picked up the vinyl not that long ago and i can't stop listening to it.
While I’m not in the same boat that this is the AOTY, Welcome to Hell is one of those avant-garde songs that I am in love with to a surprisingly high degree. Last year it was “Boys at School” by Spellling. Welcome to Hell is very well orchestrated and has great momentum and vivid lyrics. I also love the singer’s voice. Very unique.

If I had to describe black midis cover artwork I would simply describe it as “black MIDI” as in the actual music genre. When you watch a black MIDI piano cover, all the notes are mulching together in a way that doesn’t make sense.
An interesting album but not Kiss Land. Abel sold out all 20 stadiums on this North American tour which ended last night in Toronto. Perhaps he deserves another reaction from you.
