    Hi Nev, great video. Very helpful. I'm a carpenter and a bit of a fixer / maintenance of all things at home. I have a F&P washing machine / top loader. I copied what you did, but I tweaked it. I didn't drill/ hook in the springs to the circumference ring. I thought the plastic was a bit thin, so I made 4 small , L shaped ( colourbond sheeting) brackets / riveted ( used washers with rivet size hole on the rivet stems for more strength) L bkts to the outer drum ( the plastic is thicker/ will last btter over time / just clear of the big plastic cover ring. The L bkt has a 1/8 drill hole to hook spring on.The other end of spring hooked onto the suspension rod stem . I drilled a 1/8 hole into the top plastic of the suspension rod and fed wire through hole and down to the spring and wired the spring upwards , which gave the spring abit more tension. did all 4 corners. I got the springs (C- 163 88.9mm long) from Bunnings.

    This is exactly the fix I was looking for! I do wonder why the barrels are so loose in the first place? Love the idea to put the savings into cars, my plan too!

    My collection of springs is growing due to removing them from washers where this fix has been unsuccessfully attempted on the current models with the metal dampers.

    Thanks so much like some of the comments i almost threw our machine outside but noticed that simple little spring was the issue. It had fallen off.

  • @88kwthomas
    @88kwthomas 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    it's called a bias spring because there's only supposed to be 1 and It's designed to keep the drum pulling back with the centrifugal force. Chances are if you have an out of balance issue then the sensor is doing it's job amd you need to rearrange your load for the spin cycle.

    Thanks for this. The F&P out of balance has traumatised me so much I have contemplated ending it all and just wear dirty clothes for the rest of my life. New suspension rods did next to nothing, so I'll give this a crack. My only question is over time did the plastic ring break or did those metal rods you glued in work? It's a pretty flimsy bit of plastic.

    When I first got my machine it would practically spin the clothes dry. Do you find, now it’s more stable, the clothes being spun better? I know answering questions about washing machines is not what a car guy wants to do but thanks for indulging this old lady. I just replaced all four of the stabilizer bars and considering this hack as well.

    Hi Nev, you video is extremely helpful. My Fisher and Paykel had the same problem and sounds like an earthquake during the spin process. I open the top panel like in your vid and found all 4 springs detached and 3 were missing actually. But I think I left the problem too late and now the machine does not even turn on. It makes a ticking sound only when plugged in the power. Is there any way to reset it? Thanks a million!

  • @TomWorthingtonFACS
    @TomWorthingtonFACS 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Good tweak. But does anyone mod the F&P control system? It would be good to reprogram it so that when the out of balance switch is activated, the machine slows down to a more gentle wash or spin, rather than just stopping and beeping. That way you would get your clothes washed, if not as well.

  • @dalecoward5601

    The newer machines (e.g. WA8560) do not have this mechanical switch for OOB - they have an electronic sensor in the motor drive , called "bump detect" - so, strangely, it does not sense the sideways movement of the bowl. (in fact I have manually moved the bowl in all 4 directions to touch the side walls of the machine, while spinning at full revs, and not tripped the OOB). So it measures torque changes - so I think the single top spring in the back left corner may influence the 'torque movement' of the bowl. If anyone can tell me the solution to this OOB stop - it would be appreciated.

      @fecksfx 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have a newer model too, and found another video that talked about another brand with damping in the spring suspension system. I found mine dampens by slowly bleeding air out of the sealed off spring covers. I taped the spring covers to the rods which increased the friction and slowed the air movement. Has worked well so far.

    • @xavieraxiak6866
      @xavieraxiak6866 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@fecksfx There is foam material in a piston groove in the cylinders that's meant to cause damping friction. This foam material eventually disintegrates. I do backyard repairs and have been trying to find a reliable DIY fix. A year ago I started using a foam rubber replacement I got from China with perfect results so far. It's called 35A duro ejection rubber.

    Why not just level the machine???

    • @enigmatum100
      @enigmatum100 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I found levelling the machine doesn't necessarily solve the problem. I levelled my machine last week, but we still get the out of balance error all the time. I checked what's happening with the lid open and it seems the whole bowl is bouncing up and down violently, need another weekend to look at it

    • @Redeemed12
      @Redeemed12 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I thought that error meant the clothes were out of balance inside the machine? When I get the off balance error I just move the clothes around so they’re more evenly distributed and it works :) don’t know if it’s the same error code as yours but just replying in case it helps.

    Fischer and Pykel are rubbish machines a decent machine should not do this stupid out of balance alarm my mum had an old Hoover machine that gave up the ghost after 35 years and didnt need a thing done to it except replace the taps and hoses. If the manufacturer knows this issue why do they keep making it this way ? why not add the extra springs in when it comes off the line ? I know load of people who all complain with the same issue on this brand of machhine which I wont buy again as they complete rubbish .
