  • The Red Line is a rapid transit line of the Washington Metro system, consisting of 27 stations in Montgomery County, Maryland, and Washington, D.C., in the United States. It is a primary line through downtown Washington and the oldest, busiest, and currently the longest line in the system. It forms a long, narrow "U", capped by its terminal stations at Shady Grove and Glenmont.
    The Red Line is the only line in the system that does not share its tracks with another Metrorail line. However, it runs parallel to the Metropolitan Subdivision between Washington Union Station and Silver Spring as well as between Twinbrook and Shady Grove stations. These tracks used to be part of the former Baltimore and Ohio Railroad route. The MARC commuter rail system uses this parallel route with stops in Silver Spring and Rockville when traveling between Washington and Martinsburg, West Virginia, while Amtrak uses this parallel route with a stop in Rockville when traveling the Capitol Limited route between Washington, D.C. and the Chicago Union Station. Enjoy!

    Man when did they start closing the backs of the trains? I remember they used to set the cab to half in the backs so you could sit back there and watch the tunnel fly away

    No 7000 series in this clip because there temporarily out of service because of a derailment on the Blue Line back in October 2021.

    Um, if you take the red line to Farragut North (Shady Grove direction) right before the train goes into the station on the right hand side is a side tunnel that connects to the Orange/Blue/Silver lines.

    • @SandBoxJohn
      @SandBoxJohn 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      A & C connector, walked that tunnel many times during construction back in the early 1970s. Ironically i never walked the B & E connector but road aboard a train through it when WMATA ran the Green Line Short Cut before the opening of the mid city segment of the Green lin.

    • @Procard72
      @Procard72 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Do you mean the tunnel between McPherson Sq and Faragut West? That might connect to the red line to Shady Grove plus in the 90s Orange line goes there to Faragut North

    I always thought that the Washington metro traiñs had no governors on them, which make the fast!!!!

    • @SandBoxJohn
      @SandBoxJohn 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      In a sense they do have governors as their performance curve has been detuned to reduce the rate of acceleration. This was done for two reasons, to lower the current draw on the traction power substations and extend the service life of the trains. The 1k cars developed stress cracks in their bodies from being run hard and put a way wet during the first 15 years of their service life.

    • @Reallynow101
      @Reallynow101 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Each section of track has a certain speed limit for which the train should and can be operated at and can be changed by people in the operation control center.

    wmata trains look short

    • @Rebelnightwolfe
      @Rebelnightwolfe 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      They look short because they are in a six-car configuration due to issues with their newest train sets (7000 series) and need to spread them throughout the system more due to the scrapping of the 1000, 4000 and 5000 series trains. Which means shorter trains for now. All 7000 series trains were pulled from service which make up the majority of the fleet. Majority of service would typically consist of eight-car sets.

  • @collectivelyimprovingtrans2460
    @collectivelyimprovingtrans2460 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    No 7000 Series. 😥 I know why. I don’t need an answer. They could be using six car trains because it allows for more trains to be used
