    I wish New York didn’t demo as many els and had those soviet station design more (island platform, super deep, three vaults). The 5000 cars actually use the same or very similar propulsion to the R179.

    • @QuarioQuario54321
      @QuarioQuario54321 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      nycbk23 And the population of New York would decrease to less than 100,000.

      I wish that they had kept the Second Avenue El around and merged it with the Bronx portion of the Third Avenue El.

    • @bryfii

      @@WakkoKakko They should have never demolished it unless they had a good enough replacement.

      I completely agree. All of the els should have been saved, even if they are considered redundant as the els had slightly different routes and stops than the subways which replaced them.

    CTA 5000's sound similar to the R179's

    • @yuuycockdemnations69420

      It has the same propulsion. Only difference, R179 is louder.

      And the pitch of the sound is what also makes the 5000 series different to the new kids (R179s).

      I think it's because both the CTA's 5000-series and MTA's R179 trains were produced by the same company, Bombardier.

    Glad see you out here in Chicago! The Blue Line has I believe 4 sets of 5000s pretty rare to see em, only run them during rush hour rest of time it’s still 2600s

    • @CZYP202
      @CZYP202 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Snoofy Air Yep! They borrow two pink line train sets and run them in morning peak from Racine to Jeff Park

    • @snoofyair4744

      Porter Crumpton ahh so that’s where they come from, evening rush hours you can catch a couple doing the full route as well

      BLACKHAWKSVISION yea it seem the blue Runs 2600, 3200 and 1 5000 set. I was informed that the 3200 couldn’t do subway operations awhile ago ig they can

    • @packr72
      @packr72 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Snoofy Air The 3200s with roofboards(former yellow line cars) can’t fit in the subway. They will remain on the Brownline.

    The cta is more unsafe for track workers than the mta,because the side of the tracks don’t have places for workers to stand on.

    • @justnekoboywglasses
      @justnekoboywglasses 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Also remember that they still have the older styled uncovered third rails that were more common with el-rail systems during the early 20th century (think of the BMT Myrtle Line going south of Myrtle-Broadway) where contact shoes receive electricity from below rather from the sides.

      Here's a comparison between the Train cars of the MTA and the CTA:
      MTA R40s = CTA 2000s series
      MTA R42s = CTA 2200s series
      MTA R44s = CTA 2400s series
      MTA R46s - R68s = CTA 2600s series
      MTA R110s - R143s = CTA 3200s series
      MTA R160s - R179s = CTA 5000s series
      MTA R211s - R262s = CTA 7000s series

      As a Chicagoland fanner, I can say this is somewhat true. You just need to know what areas you gonna fan at. For example, fanning downtown is safe as nothing happens downtown anyway. And the north side of Chicago is really safe. As far as areas such as Eaglewood, and stations like 95th station, you're in a war-zone if you fan there at night.
