My Gem was an Aussie/BC mix too. She was my first dog and bl/w. I named her after the Empath on "Star Trek" in '79 after I bought her that day and was trying to figure out what to name her. She grew up to be quite empathic, always sending our moods and cheering us when we were moody or ill. My yr.old niece especially loved her and even my parents grew to love her too.
