Wonderful dish IChang. There is a Japanese who just opened Nasi Kandar in Japan(as he loves Malaysian food so much during his travels to Malaysia) and has long queue. Maybe you can Google it and someday you too can have restaurants in Japan and Hong Kong.
In Singapore, they also sell Ayam Masak Merah with Briyani rice and Nasi Lemak Rice. So if you happen to make a big batch of Ayam Masak Merah and freeze it,you can have variations every other day. Ayam masak merah is very versatile dish. Keep up the spirit in cooking Malaysian food.

We call it “campak, campak” style. Throw everything in, don’t worry it will still be tasty 🤣 Jimmy also became more camera comfortable. The ayam merah will be much nicer if you add some canned peas after you add in the onions (at the end of cooking ayam merah).
And the set is made completed with Dalca, which is a type of vege curry.

    Hi iChang and Jimmy :)
Just a suggestion based on how I usually do it.
Instead of crushing the daun pandan with your hands, you can also carik-carik (slit it) the middle of the pandan before tying it. That way more flavour and smell of the pandan will be infused in your dish 😬

Acar is actually a kind of pickle because it is made with vinegar and sugar. You can make the acar 1 or 2 days before and leave it in the fridge for the full flavour to come out. In fact, you can sprinkle crushed peanuts on acar before you put into fridge and pickle it. The crushed peanuts make it super delicious. Acar can be kept in fridge for up to 1 month. The flavour mellow out and become very nice if you leave it for few days.
Another vegetable you can add into acar is thinly sliced cabbage and chopped long beans. Cabbage can also be pickled with acar, like kimchi.

You just made Acar Mentah (raw acar) there's also another type of acar which is cooked such as acar rampai and acar buah that uses more ingredients and spices and usually cooked. These acar are also served for special occasion like weddings, hari raya and such with special rice like Nasi Minyak. Maybe you wanted to make and try those acar?

I use heinz tomato soup for my nasi tomato. 6 cups of rice for 1 can of tomato soup. it has to be heinz, other brand not so good. once rice is cooked, fluff up the rice and drizzle a little bit of orange cordial drink brand sunquick. you will have amazing nasi tomato; rich from the ghee, amazing tomato flavour from the heinz and the freshness taste from sunquick.

You can add Tomato soup in Nasi Tomato and ayam masak merah to boost up the flavour. For the acar, maybe you should slice thinly the onion.. so your acar won't have the strong onion taste...and if you put too much vinegar combine with lemon..., your acar will taste sour because both ingredients had strong acidic effect. Overall, everything is up to you.....
Good Job Ichang and Jimmy 👍👍👍💖💖💖

Nasi Tomato goes very well with Daging Masak Hitam too, it's an unusual combination since that most people usually pair Nasi Tomato with Ayam Masak Merah. anyway, love all your videos. p/s, maybe you should try cooking some east Malaysian cuisine from states of Sabah & Sarawak in near future.

Put mint leaf on top ayam masak merah for more attractions
My opinion while you blend cili kering put some cooking oil on for that seed inside cili kering blend well
I saw i chang “burp” when eat nasi tomato…
Maybe you need some water before you eat nasi tomato
    Everything awesome👍🏽👍🏽

Just a suggestion I-Chang... To get the tomatonish & sourness for the rice, add in tomato sauce or ketchup for about 5 tablespoons, 1-2 tablespoons of Sunkist concentrated & 1 cube of chicken stock... SEDAP🤤🤤
Your acar can go for any type of rice... Nasi tomato, Nasi minyak, Nasi Hujan Panas, Nasi Bukhari... It looks really sedap I-Chang... Haiyah, some more I am on diet... Your cooking is killing me🤤🤤🤤

Thanks for sharing this wonderful video. Nasi tomato n ayam masak merah combo is one of my all time fav comfort food. I love my late mom's recipe but couldn't replicate it. But I improvise it with my own way.
