I'm Mexican American born and raised in Los Angeles. When I first heard this song I wasn't really bothered. We spoke pretty freely in the 80's. But when I heard the line "radicals and racists, don't point your finger at me. I'm a small town white boy, just trying to make ends meat" I understood the prospective much more.

Right, that's a thing about music that a lot of people overlook. It's a perspective, contexts. I understand veing mad at words but different time which you can't hold older years to now standards and its what was happening. He spoke his truth.

@@SarahraeLivingLife I know this video is a year old, but it just popped up on my feed. Watching your reaction to the song, then scrolling down the comments..... I have to applaud you for "getting it".
I remember buying this CD when it came out, as well as both of the Use Your Illusion albums.
I hate to point this out, but it WAS a whole different time back then. I'm not saying it was "better", or "worse".... but it was DIFFERENT. But I hope you haven't allowed that to keep you from doing a "deep dive" into that era (and the eras prior). SO much good music came out from the mid-1950s through 2000... you REALLY should try and see what you will like. You will likely find a LOT of it, and likely some you don't. But on that last part.... that's okay. But as long as you find stuff you like, it's worth it.
You seem to get the actual message of the song, whereas many people just flip out when they hear "certain words". I applaud you for that.

One in a milion together with" You' re Crazy" my favourite songs in album" Lies" . Axl' s voice...sound....lyrics so amazing!!! I ' m very agree for this reaction. I love the intensity and the way Axl sing this song but everything I say about his performance don' t give him what he deserve. Just an incredible talent like him can do this masterpiece! Love him and Guns and Roses!!! This is Stuck in my head . ..But I' d like to see your reaction on song " You' re Crazy " in his acoustic version from album " Lies" or in one if their live...thank you!

I remember the uproar that 'Lies' caused with this song's use of the 'N-word'.
    No...not 'Narcissist'. 🤤😁
My favorite was, 'I Used to Love Her' which turned out to be the story of a dog. 🐶
It was like us late 80s folk were being prepped for the oncoming 'PC Culture' war.

    Sarahrae ~ Yeah,
    Kool Video Footage my Friend.
    “ONE IN A MILLION”
    From Guns&Roses
That controversial song has influenced many new young artists.
With it’s extremely pleasant guitar riffs & gruff voice.
What i Liked about it was how quickly our Mr Ian Stuart reworked it to a much more up to date Lyrics,
& Turned it into a modern Song that reflected our favourite goal of a Patriotic, Nationalist Government That one day would rule our Lives for the Better.
The Remix Of ONE IN A MILLION
    By IAN STUART
    is Available on TH-cam
& i recommend that all True
    GUNS & ROSES Fans.
Keep up the good work & Help us to keep Rock ‘n’ Roll Alive & Kicking.
You Get A Big Thumbs UP 👍🏻
    From me Sarahrae !

      Sarahrae ~ Yeah,
Ian Stuart, Like so many young men dreamed of a career in Rock ‘n’ Roll but when in 1977 he formed Skrewdriver,
A Punk Group Based in North West England,
No-One could have predicted the rollercoaster ride that he was about to endure.
With two singles and an album recorded Skrewdriver were heading for the dizzy heights of rock stardom,
But when their concerts became battlegrounds & gained the band a reputation that saw them Banned from London venues,
Disowned by their record label and slaughtered in the mainstream music press most people would have put it down to experience & shuffled off into a Dystopian day Job.
it is testament to the resilience of Ian Stuart That against staggering odds he refused to be defeated.
This Remarkable in-depth story is well documented in the fascinating book called
“The Ian Stuart - Skrewdriver Biography”
This book records the historical journey that started as a highly rated punk vocalist mixing with the likes of =
      The Sex Pistols,
      Sham69,
      Siouxsie & The Banshees,
      Motörhead,
      Bob Geldof,
      Iggy Pop,
      Sting from the Police,
& Suggs From Chart toppers Madness,
Right the way thru to National Front Demonstrators,
      British Movement Marches,
Ku Klux Klan Leaders in the U.S & Top Skinhead Recruits for the Blood & Honour Organisation That he founded Back in 1987.
The Record Shops refused to sell his albums,
      Yet they sold thousands,
His Concerts were starved of any ideas,
Yet even his enemies would admit that he could easily fill venues as big as the Royal Albert Hall.
This Remarkable in-depth story traces his early beginnings in Blackpool through to his Murder as a National Socialist & Skinhead Legend.
Yeah, we’ve all heard stories about rebellious Rock Stars,
But this is a Truly unique account of a Rebel with a Cause,
And One Who Lived thru the Pain, Pressure, & Patriotic Pride that was his Life.
So even if you Revile this Rock Movement,
      it’s ideas, & it’s music,
This is still a very interesting & important piece of Social & Youth Culture History.

OIAM gave me a hard time when I was 13, but it helped me form my opinion, and I'm grateful to Axl for that. The song gives a voice to a small town boy without making you sympathize with his opinion. Should it be re-released? No, because as Axl himself said, it can be too easily misunderstood. Should it have been heard? Absolutely. The song forces you to take a stand, and that's what art is for. The song is from the 1980s.

I'm going to use a paraphrase of what Axl Rose. People didn't listen to all the verses or they would have known I wasn't talking about a race when I use n*****. He used it like scumbag to anyone that was the most full of decadence in a society. Not saying I agree since I am multiracial but slash is biracial with a white pop and black mom. I had to toss that out there as a notice that people should know before they listen. You did a good job for reals little miss TH-camr

    • @HoyaSaxaSD
      @HoyaSaxaSD ปีที่แล้ว

That’s not accurate. The most one could say is that he was referring to a certain type of black person-the kind who he said hassled/accosted him once he was off the bus in L.A.-so maybe a more criminal element, or what may be called “thugs” today. But it’s pure revisionist history to say that he was using that word to refer to white or Asian ne’er-do-wells, for example. Axl was not illiterate.

One in a Million is a good song IMO it’s not necessarily about his experience but is more like of all the BS in the world then and today he is trying not to get caught up and lost in the sea of BS he just wants to live his life and not be haggled or hustled by people who want to try to take advantage…Axl says this himself in an interview about this song…he goes on to say the whole album Lies is just that imperfections, half truths and whole lies…the melody to one in a million is excellent and is a falsetto key and chord procession

Actually it’s the 80s 1988 when they released the Lies EP. So not quite 90s just yet. Not politically correct at all. I think he wanted to be intentionally non PC just to shock and be rock and roll but honestly I think it detracts from an excellent song and music. Without those words the song would still be powerful and haunting.
