I LOVE this movie ! The Martin Short movie you really need to check out is a very underrated 80’s movie called INNERSPACE, the practical effects won an Oscar and frankly have never been topped.

1) This is how Martin Short first met Steve Martin. I saw this in the theater and have loved it ever since!
2) Randy Newman was the voice of the burning bush. Look him up, he's a songwriting legend, most famously for "Short People" but also the Toy Story films among others.
3) Finally, they absolutely had sewing machines in 1916. Singer made the first home sewing machines in the mid-1800s.

The Three Amigos suits where beautiful in 1986 and are beautiful now. They are very reminiscent of a true Traje de gala Charro jalisciense with real silver embroidery.
Love also that each one has a unique design and motif:
Martin has the sun (energy, life and joyfulness), Steve has a horseshoe (good luck and confident steps), and Chevy has the eagle (courage and freedom).
Rest of the mexicans, vilians and villagers are also on point for the time this takes place in.
Costume designer knew what she was doing.
This whole movie is an underrated masterpiece.
I lived in Texas and worked in a live music Tejano bar. These outfits are dead on.
and this is why cultural embrace needs to rise, because there was nothing culturally inappropriate about the stunning suits, so why if I wore one out id be called a racist.....we're not being inappropriate, we're actually culturally killing ourselves....why can I accept a culture, but not embrace it?I can be a part of it, but im not allowed to introduce anyone else to it? I would have loved to wear a Spanish suit like these for my proudest moment at grad, but I was too scared to show my love for it out of heart id be told that im a racist and actually hate it and get my life messed up.
Life is hard when you have to sacrifice what you want, but don't need, to avoid someone else feeling mocked for their culture.
Todays hypersensitivity is a pendulum swing from yesterdays bigotry.

El Guapo is the most underrated comedy villain in cinema. He owns every scene he's in. It's a magnificent performance by Alfonso Arau.
He's also great in a small part in Romancing the Stone.

"El Guapo" means "The Handsome one" In spanish. Alfonso Arau was amazing in this movie.

One of Steve Martin's first jobs was as a performer at Disneyland. He was great with a rope, so he incorporated it in the fiesta scene. The guy has always been so freaking talented. Watching him with the lasso is still pretty impressive. This movie is such an 80s comedy classic. Seen it a hundred times. It never gets old.
Surprised you haven't seen Martin Short before. Better late than never. He is one of the great comic geniuses of the past 40 years. He was a star of Second City TV as well as Saturday Night Live, creating such iconic characters as Ed Grimley and Jiminy Glick. He and Steve Martin have toured together in recent years and co-star with Selena Gomez in the TV series " Only Murders in the Building ". Also does killer impersonation of Jerry Lewis. Check him out.
I loved Martin Short's performance as Franc in Father of the Bride 1 & 2. He's a funny guy and when you put him and Steve Martin together, it's comedy gold. He was also great in Three Fugitives with Nick Nolte.
Steve Martin and Martin Short met for the first time making this movie. Their friendship has lasted ever since and they have partnered on several join tours and are currently starting together on Only Murders in the Building on Hulu. Chevy Chase was notoriously famous for being difficult to work with. ✌️

Chevy chase met them while filming for the 1st time as well. There all friends to this day. Only the unfunny community actors hated chevy. Plenty of actors have said the opposite of him. Never listen to unfunny comedic actors who get their feeling hurt. Chase is pure comedy gold.
“Captain Ron”with Martin short and Kurt Russell is great one to watch.
*“Dead Men Don’t Wear Plaid”* is Steve Martin’s best movie in my opinion. “Dirty Rotten Scoundrels” is another one of his greats

I can't believe no one has mentioned 'The Three Fugitives'. Martin Short is excellent in it. Hilarious and endearing. Co-starring with him is Nick Nolte, who was also great. It's definitely a must watch.

I never saw this movie but El Guapo looked familiar then he opened his mouth and I knew immediately - he’s in Romancing the Stone! Alfonso Arau. He’s still alive at 91 - good for him!! 👌🏼

My favorite scene is when they’re singing by the campfire and the animals get involved, especially the singing horses. The first time I saw that, I just about fell on the floor laughing. It’s one of those “so stupid it’s funny” moments. I loved it. 🤣

This movie was on repeat throughout my childhood! Your next Steve Martin movie needs to be Roxanne! It's funny as hell, and romantic too, it's based on Cyrano De Bergerac, an old play with a plot so good they made movies of it every decade, in multiple languages!

I love The Three Amigos. Such a timeless, funny film. The first mechanical sewing machine was invented in France in 1830.
This is such a classic. When I want to annoy my husband I impersonate the singing bush. This movie is full of great one liners and quotes 😂
All 3 actors essentially met while filming this and became lifelong friends till this day.
In 1988 at the age of 8 my mum took me to the dentist and promised me a blockbuster movie rental afterwards. I chose this movie and that night it had me in tears of laughter. 35 years on and i love it just as much!
This was def a high regular rental from the video store for me in the 80s!!
I grew up laughing at this movie, and it still is pretty funny. In particular, the "plethora" exchange got a lot of play in my family, and I always associate that word with this movie. "Jefe, what is a plethora?" Say that and my sister and I will start quoting the whole thing!
It's a parody of the Western genre in general, but especially of "The Magnificent Seven" (1960). I highly recommend that movie -- it's an action adventure Western with a bit of romance and drama, and a real high point of Hollywood entertainment. It has an all-star action cast for the time, too. I've watched it probably a dozen times at least and it hasn't gotten old. If you like that one, then you can go to the movie that inspired it and watch the Japanese classic "The Seven Samurai." That one's definitely farther afield for the average American viewer, as it's a 3-hour long black-and-white samurai drama that you have to watch with subtitles, but it's worth it. It's so worth it. The action is great, the characters greater, and if you're not used to black and white movies you may be shocked at how pretty this one is.
So anyway, "The Three Amigos" is based on a serious Western, which in turn was based on a Japanese samurai epic, which itself was inspired by American Westerns. Fun stuff! I'm glad you enjoyed this one.

When I was a kid I learned what a plethora meant from this movie and never forgot it! 😆

Ironically, this movie actually TAUGHT me what the word "infamous" means.... which in short being famous for doing the WRONG things. So, after seeing this movie when it came out, at the age of 15, I could finally understand how being "famous or infamous" were DIFFERENT things.

This is the inspiration for GALAXY QUEST, where actors are mistaken for real space heroes who must save the galaxy.
A bugs life, Rango, galaxy quest and three amigos are all comedic versions of the 7 samurai/ magnificent seven.
Oh! Galaxy Quest would be a good one for them to watch ...it's got my vote!

For nearly 4 decades, every time I hear the word "plethora", my brain jumps to "would you say I have a plethora of pinatas?".
Surely this movie has to be like the holy grail of movie marketing for pinata salesmen.

Love love love this movie. So many great quotes in this movie. It’s so silly and they make such a great comedy team. The singing bush is by far the funniest scene. “GREAT…YOU KILLED THE INVISIBLE SWORDSMAN!”
Steve Martin & Martin Short have maintained a close personal and professional relationship ever since this movie was made. They’ve done several live comedy tours together and collaborate in the TV series “Only Murders In the Building” along with Selena Gomez. Very funny men.
To this day I'm impressed by that invisible swordsman gag.

About 5 minutes in, this is giving me Galaxy Quest vibes. Carmen and the kid see a silent movie, and they think it's real (like the Thermians). Then the Three Amigos, who think it's an acting gig ("oh great... real bullets!") have to become real life heroes. I don't know why this hasn't occurred to me before.
Steve and Martin are a legendary duo anything there together 👍👍 they r friendship goals i got to see them at the casino laughed sooo hard my face hurt they told the story of when Steve and Chevy lied to Marty to have him show up to the premier of the movie in full Amigos costume and they showed in nice tuxidos lol that special should be on netflix still definitely do father of the bride and father of the bride part 2
Galaxy Quest (1999) the Tim Allen movie is a Sci-Fi remake of this exact movie.... I LOVE BOTH!
And A Bug's Life is a cgi remake of it!
The Male Plane joke gets Me every time; when I was little My Dad was watching this and My Mother, Who was a Devout Christian Woman laughed at that Joke and Shocked all of us kids, It's a fond memory from childhood!
Steve is from Orange county his first job as a teenager was at Disneyland. He learned to make balloon animals from an employee who was famous for that, he also learned trick roping from another famous cast member who did it at frontierland. He does one of old routines here.

Funny when you realize the "Amigo Salute" is a hernia check (turn your head and cough). The singing bush (although annoying) is probably the funniest thing in this movie, such an energetic performance that never quits!

I saw this when it came out in a packed theater. The audience went wild! It was one of my favorite all time theater experience!
The poster behind Steve Martin when they were stealing their costumes was a silent film depicted in a classic movie, Singing in The Rain. Singing in The Rain is considered to be one of the best movies ever. An actual classic.
The Dancing Cavalier? I never noticed that! It would be amazing for them to react to Singin' in the Rain.

With the lasso scene Steve actually DID know what he was doing. During his early years at Disney, he learned.
Fun Fact: Actress Patrice Camhi the lady playing Carmen, also played Victoria Escalante in 1989-1992 Family Channel's "Zorro" Duncan Reghr played Zorro in the series, it was a great show.
Steve Martin also hosted the Muppet Show once, way back in the day, and they did a schtick where they cancelled the show to do auditions for new cast members. Steve didn't want to miss his chance to perform, so he keeps sneaking in to auditions to do his bits. 😂❤ Including playing his banjo!!! It is on Disney plus, and is a fun 30 minutes to react to!!

A really fun 1952 musical comedy with a plot about how Hollywood transitioned from silent movies to "talkies" with sound in the late 1920s is "Singin' in the Rain," starring the singing-dancing-acting (triple threat) geniuses Gene Kelly, Donald O'Connor and Debbie Reynolds ("Star Wars" Princess Leia actress Carrie Fisher's mom). The American Film Institute has named "Singin' in the Rain" as the best movie musical of all time.
One of the greatest westerns of all time. Right up there with Back to the Future III.😂😂
Loved this as a kid when it came out. Comedy layered for every age group. To this day I still do the 3 Amigos salute, hip thrust and everything.

You need to watch "Housesitter" with Steve Martin and Goldie Hawn from "Overboard". Great comedy from the early 90's.
Martin Short is great in a the movie "Captain Ron." It has him and Kurt Russel and its a hidden gem that not many people know about
Love this movie and great reaction as always. There have been some good suggestions for more movies for these three. I have to second "Spies Like Us" for Chevy Chase, "Dirty Rotten Scoundrels" for Steve Martin, and "Innerspace" for Martin Short. Martin and Short team up again for "Father of the Bride" 1 & 2 and I would also recommend "Pure Luck" for a Martin Short showing off his physical comedy.
EDIT: Martin Short also plays a great straight-man in "Captain Ron".

Martin Short played a role as a kid in 1994's Clifford. Martin really takes the spotlight in that one. It's a movie I don't see people reacting to but I think it's really funny! I especially love the scene where they tell him to look like a human boy for just one minute and he makes every face possible but just can't do it! 🤣
El Guapo was also in Romancing the Stone. He was the drug dealer who read Joan's romance novels to his men. 😂

You TRULY need to watch "The Father of the Bride", both, that includes both Steve Martin and Martin Short!!!!
I was changing the water in my 200 gallon aquarium and walked next door to my sister's to get something and got distracted.
I came back home two hours later to a flooded living room with water dripping through the floor into the basement.
It took the better part of a week for it to all dry up.
Under rated classic. The subtle one liners are so top tier.
You will not only do the salute, but you will also find yourself saying "son of a motherless goat" when ever you can. :D

I remember falling in love with Martin Short’s comedy on SNL. His Ed Grimley character was very decent, I must say. You’ll love Martin Short with Dennis Quaid and Meg Ryan in Innerspace.
I think I liked his Nathan Thurm more than Ed Grimley. Much more subtle.

My great grandmother use to play piano for the "soundtrack" during the silent movie era. So going from that to helping her setup a vcr in the 90s, is a memory I'll always treasure. 🥰

I'm still advocating for my top favourite movies - Adventures in Babysitting, License to Drive, The Secret of My Success (with the fabulous Michael J Fox), The Money Pit (hilarious Tom Hanks), and Big Business(Bette Midler plays a twin). I know you'll love ALL of these. All are hilarious comedies from the 80's. With AMAZING soundtracks. And of course Eddie and the Cruisers as well - with the backing vocals of John Cafferty and the Beaver Brown Band. Pretty, pretty, PLEASE??

The Money Pit 😂😂😂! Such a simple plot, but full of laugh-out-loud scenes. One of the best slap-stick movies ever.
Anything with Bette Midler would be awesome. Whoopi Goldberg made some hilarious movies too.

You guys should definitely watch Parenthood with Steve Martin. It's a fantastic movie with a lot of great actors and Innerspce with Martin short, absolutely hilarious.

While The Three Stooges relied largely on physical humor and sight gags, their movie career did begin after the advent of sound films. Parenthetically, there quite a few worthwhile silent films you might watch - though I'd definitely start with the comedies. And, by the way, El Guapo, ironically, translates as "the handsome one". The songs are by singer/songwriter and film composer Randy Newman ( also the voice of the singing bush ) who, it seems, sould write for any genre. From a very musical lineage, he had three uncles who were prolific composers of film scores and four cousins also in the trade.
Watched this in the theater back in the day. It still holds up after almost 40 years.
Amber you hit the nail on the head. You rewatch movies like this, because of the One liners. Martin Short is an SNL alumni in '84. he is currently in "Only Murders in the Building" on Hulu with Steve martin and Selena Gomez.
Jay, you said that you knew Chevy Chase was doing his own singing because you saw him singing on. A Paul Simon song you can me Al but I Have some bad news for you he was only lip syncing because that was Paul Simon’s voice coming out of Chevy’s mouth! MIND BLOWN!!!

You guuys should watch Father of the Bride with Steve Martin, Diane Keaton and Martin Short. Just hilarious! AND it has a sequel, just as funny!!! BTW Ned is played by Martin Short
Father Of The Bride was a remake. The original version was from the early fifties starring Spencer Tracy and Elizabeth Taylor. Both are good and funny, I like the original better because I saw it first.

For those shocked by the amigos real skill, it is a reference to the actors of that time having be well rounded talented individuals who did in fact train and become experts for their films. Like Errol Flynn and Rathbone with fencing, Gene Kelly with dancing and the amigos with gun skills.
How they never did a sequel, is beyond me!!
Back in those days sequels weren't really a thing; they were more the exception rather than the rule. Talented actors and writers preferred to come up with new ideas and material. It was also more about the art and way less corporate who try to squeeze every nickel out of an IP.

@@zatoichi1 It wasn't. There was a hell of a lot more one-offs in the 80's than sequels. I never said there were none, I said it wasn't a thing like it is today. Today's movies are made with sequels in mind and show it, back in the 80's not so much; especially in comedies.
Sequels have always been around since "Birth of a Nation" and "Fall of a Nation" in 1915-16 and in every decade since, including the 80's, but again no where near as prevalent as they are today. Once more, exceptions not rules.
Also, read the words again... because "weren't really a thing" does not equate "not a thing".
