    Even as a kid when this originally aired I could tell I was actually watching a classy show.

    This is so cool! I actually used to live right down the street to a Yale building which was originally supposed to be the house for the Addams' Family but Yale denied them access to it in its entirety! The house looks EXACTLY like the painting! Even spookier in person! :)

      That's the Betts House at Yale Unuversity, a 21,000 square foot mansion built in 1868. Yale wanted to demolish the building in the 1990s but preservationists and students stopped that. The house was extensively renovated in 2002 and now houses a globalization center.

      Thank you for sharing that! I love learning the history! Absolutely wonderful that they were able to preserve the house and make it useful as well. Kind of sad they didn't let them have access to it though.... for the Addams family show. That would have been awesome!

    Great job dude! I love the Addam’s Family. My ex-wife didn’t get it. But I had a beautiful girlfriend who loved the Addams as much as I do. She was making a Morticia dress as I had a Gómez suit tailored. Unfortunately, she passed away suddenly in Sept. 2014 before we could reveal our costumes. She’s still with me. Some may call it a haunting or mental problem but she’s still with me. We loved the way the Addams didn’t judge or hurt people just because they had different views. We loved the passion between bobola and querida. Most would lament a passing but I don’t because I had that love. Unconditional love is really something to behold. I’m fortunate. And I’ll see her again soon enough. Thanks for the great video.

    You briefly covered the Addams' house in another video, but thanks for going into more details in this fine video. All I can add to the comments below, is it's a shame that some Addams Family fan group didn't try to save the house that was the basis for the one in the TV series. They could have drummed up the money somehow and had the house moved to another location, where it would have been a popular tourist attraction. But, that opportunity is long gone.
    As always, as you say, Stay Positive and Be Hopeful!

    For the first 10 seconds of your video, you show a portrait of the Addams family house, that isn't the house on Adams Blvd, or the Matte painting that was created based on that house. This one appears to be more weathered and run down, with an overgrown lawn. That picture of the house used in the opening credits, appears to be drawn by Charles Addams, who was involved in the pre-production of the series. This has always had me wondering. Did Charles Addams use the photograph to create a version of the Adams Blvd house more like the house that his characters resided in with the New Yorker Cartoons, or (if Charles Addams did the run down version) did he base the drawing on the Matte painting? I suspect Charles Addams may have done the original redesign of the house, which is more in the Mansard Roof style of the New Yorker cartoons, as opposed to the Queen Anne style of the house filmed in the pilot. Many of the houses that Addams liked to draw, including the house he drew for the opening credits of the film "The Old Dark House" were Mansard Roof houses, and the Matte Painting of the house seems to be more of a well maintained version of that house more in keeping with the rich eccentrics that the television family were known for being, then the drawing of the house at the beginning of the video.

      More Italianate than Victorian I think.

    • @ottobaron6392
      @ottobaron6392 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@SonOfTheDawn515 Ittaliante is just one of many Victorian styles, and was in fashion at about the same time Mansard Roof homes were popular during the Victorian period. The original house used in the Pilot was a Queen Anne house built in the 1880s. However, the style of Building Charles Addams typically drew for his family in the New Yorker was clearly Mansard roof, or Second Empire, so a restyle was given the building, where it had the flat roof, with sloping sides, and dormer windows, so it could be more like the home in the New Yorker.

    To me, it looks like a house is modeled after a funeral parlor, with that front entrance with the roof over the top, and it looks like you can drive a car underneath of it.

    I thought it was fairly obvious that it was a painting. What I didn't realize was that so much of it was real! And I don't know why they bothered. There are real, spookier houses all over the place.

    That house always looked like an obvious painting. I didn't think they were trying to make it look "real." I figured they were trying to make it look like the original house from the Addams Family comic. But then again, I never watched an episode. I was a Munsters fan. (Along those same lines I never watched a "Bewitched" episode either, but loved Jeannie.)

      Similar yes, to the title credits. However the Munsters house was an exterior facade and no matte painting...pretty cool! All real, at least just the front facade. No rear to the home or interiors which were shot in an interior sound stage

    On the New Addams Family set they had a miniature of the house for exteriors. I believe someone told me it had come up from California, and it looked like it had seen better days, being kind of bent and dinged. But a little lighting and the right focus enabled it to pass for a real house.
    Any idea where that might have originated?
