  • Definitely, a Philodendron that goes by several names in different locations.
The Philodendron Malay gold (as it is known in the UK) can also sometimes be seen as the golden Goddess or Lemon Lime Philodendron
As far I have been able to research this is a man-made philodendron hybrid. but above all, it is super easy to grow and is definitely quite imposing
Join me whilst I go through some of what I have learned whilst growing it and what has worked for me, which hopefully will help you too, when growing it in your home

I bought the Malay Gold 3 years ago as an 'oh why not' plant together with some others that I actually wanted. From the start it has put out consistent growth. The plant has been very forgiving of late waterings and has also dealt with the small pot, dark corner and the lack of fertilizer no problem. It sized up beautifully growing up a bamboo pole (which many of my other philodendrons refuse to do) and while all the other plants around it were under threat from thrips and spider mites on several occasions, they never established on this plant. It has brute forced its way into my heart and I'm so glad I got it on a whim, can't imagine my collection without it.

.. So that's the answer!? "Team Janky" yaiii 😄 I've got several of them in my house from chop sticks to orchid sticks and bamboo sticks 🌞🤗 they certainly come in handy when needed ☺️
.. I don't have pests on any of my plants, that be my neons, limes, or any other plant.. My Malay Gold is only a 1/3 of yours, but she's beautiful and enjoys a place in bright indirect light (from spring until end of summer) , where she grows her best.. From October until February she likes direct light (not the sun)..

Just a constructive criticism, Imthink you should show the plant more when talking about it, it is beautiful and we want to actually see it 🙂

Team Janky Support Stick for the win! I made a wonky trellis last night for a hoya, so you could have multiple product lines. I have what was sold to me as a P. Moonlight, but I can’t differentiate between the Moonlight and the Golden Goddess. Either way, it’s very pretty! FYI, the Moonlight does well in household humidity.

Yay for Janky Support sticks, i have been meaning to do the same with a trellis via the sticks, but i have not got round to it yet, it might have to a holiday task.
Ohhh that is good to know, I think a few other friends said the same thing to me, that it does well in household humidity.
TBH I think the moonline/golden goddess and Malay Gold might all be the same plant, but called something different in different countries🤷‍♂️

I hadn't thought of it until now either but I haven't had any pest issues with my neon/lemon lime plants either! Whether they're in 20% humidity or 70%, they've all been great.

So this, and painted lady (which iirc same parent), are basically the two philodendron that grow well in my first floor without additional heating aka they're probably better at handling cooler temps then most plants

this experience with light for plants with lighter leaves - I use. And we come back to the fact that in the house (without lighting) even the southern windows "are not as bright" as the sun in nature :) :) :)
My plants love light, in autumn and winter in Europe I have to light up most of them so that they can grow, not sleep!
I don't have a neon epipremnum, but I found it interesting that it doesn't like strong light! I have to get it and have fun :)

Completely agree 👍 but yeah the neon epipremnum does better for me in medium light

The paste works, I can confirm. (At least regarding philodendron silver sword) However if you over use it you can kill your plant as it doesn't have the root network to sustain itself. But I find when I trim my silver sword it puts out 2 or 3 grow points anyway. So I feel the paste is only worthwhile if you *don't* want to chop or shorten your plant. 😁👍🏻

OMG, all of you lucky owners of Golden Goddess! I spent a fortune on so called Thai Sunrise (or whatever name they use in Europe for the variegated Golden Goddess) and what? Same old, same old.

    • @Houseplantygoodness
      @Houseplantygoodness  2 ปีที่แล้ว

oh no! was it not a good plant? i know the Thai sunrise can be really expensive, but I have never seen one up close

.. I've never seen a Thai Sunrise, but I do have a Malay Gold (and her baby).. I don't know where you live, but I do hope you've got yourself a Malay Gold by now🌞🤗 surely mine is not as big as Memo's, yet, but I am so very happy to know how big she can get.. None of my neons have had any pests 🤔 but then I just don't have any pests on my plants.. At all..

Now that you mention it, I'm going through a pretty invasive thrips infestation, and in all my physical examinations, I've never seen a thrip on my golden phil. So interesting. Is there a defensive compound in the phytochemicals??

Please make a video about SHARTREUSE color in foliage, so much loved but misunderstood.

There's a phrase here that I'm not hearing properly. I hear it as "echooserpon". Closed captions are translating it as "choose a pond" and "choose upon". Something to do with repotting? Possibly a hydroponic medium?

Lechuza pon :) it's a hydroponic potting medium.
