How To Replace and Adjust the Throttle Position Sensor

  • Today we're replacing, and adjusting, a throttle position sensor. The sensor detects the opening and closing of the throttle valve and feeds that info to the vehicle's computer. This was performed on a 1997 Nissan Maxima. Check with your vehicle's repair manual for testing parameters.

Dude u r by far the best mechanic on here. The way u explain things r dead on. Ur not too fast or too slow. No wasted time or annoying intro. Nice and calm. Thank u . I had no idea about using meter and testing with dc for tps sensor. And ur paperclip to allegator clip truck is so neat I use it on everything with tight spots. Thank u so much. Keep slinging the wrench

I already watched this once when replacing the TPS on my 95 Nissan maxima the first time. But I'm replacing it again. I thought the transmission was going out, it was slipping so bad. Some one told me to test the TPS because the idle was surging up and it was bad, replaced it and no more transmission problems. Thanks again as always for the videos!!

My 2001 Infiniti I30 idles up and down when heated up. this been going on for a while. I've changed MAFS, Throttle body more than once. However, they're used but the problem continues. sometimes it stalls, you push the gas, the car don't move and you can see the meter go up but not moving. I'm fixing to change the position sensor like you did. but it's had to get around it for lack of space.
    Can you help.

First, I want to let you know that your Videos are very clear easy to follow. Now I changed the TPS in my 2003 Infiniti QX4 before seeing your video and mistakenly placed the TAB on the opposite side of the throttle pin. During testing, the engine was revving up and down and then stop working. Found out ECU was fried. Purchased one on eBay and after installing the ECU and the IACV engine did not start. Pull out codes P1610 and P1611 which I guess would be normal. Had my original ECU repaired and reinstalled but the engine won't start. At this point, I need to find one last option to get the engine up and running or tow the car to a mechanic for repairs. Greatly would appreciate any input.

Best video I have seen yet! I have a 2005 Hyundai Tiburon. It was "bucking" and hesitating. Also idling all over. I changed the TPS by myself but didn't know it had to be set to a specific spot and/or to reset the idle position memory. The car continued to have same symptoms. I decided to clean the IAC valve thinking maybe that was it. It ran pretty well for a day or two but it's back to the same old same old. It has to be that I put the TPS on wrong and I didn't reset the idle position memory! Do you have any tips on how to do that with an 05 Tiburon? Thanks!
