    The reason why we wanted to try these out was because of your glowing review of the first version. Great stuff as always!

    Perfectly reasonable to be leant a product to review, particularly like this where you own a similar unit.

    I am one that bought the original 15' Megamon based on your review. Wish they gave a firmware update like Portkeys did.

      I still love my Megamon, but you're right, useful firmware updates do encourage brand loyalty from customers who've invested. Personally, I wish they could incorporate the EL-Zone system (exposure colour) like SmallHD and Atomos.

      @@extrashot Thanks for the review. And always interesting when brands make something a bit better and then leave those that helped support them and buy their products out to dry by not offering any type of firmware update. But I still do enjoy my original and won't be upgrading... not having control over picture controls seems like a step backward with the other better features. Also wonder about that joystick - and if it would survive the rigors of repeated work in the field.

    Great review thanks. Im a reseller of Osee and have tested the 1000nit and 1500not 15" panels. The new one, I do find the joystick to be very fragile. It works fine but would not take any knock what so ever.
    One things, I would be keen to hear from you, how do the blacks hold up at 1/10 in a dark filmset, where and OLED would be ideal? Keen to hear you opion of a darkly lit scene and this low brightness. I know the original 21" 1000nit panels failed in this test as the blacks were milky, like many high bright panels. You can not seem to have both good oled type blacks and good colour outdoors. The 15.4" isn a great improvement.
    I have asked Osee to offer a few firmware upgrades. Screensaver option as Black ionstead of yellow. Black could of course be with smaller Osee logo on black and no sdi signal words. I also suggested a dot as centre marker.
    Also the focus peaking I felt even at 1 was very intense and I suggested they make 1 the new 3 and add 2 new settings lower intensity. Thanks

      Thanks for the notes Nigel, you make some good points. I too wondered about the strength of the joystick. When you first start to use it there is definitely a 'bendy' feel to the plastic. I used the monitor for about a month before reviewing and much of that was on the road, so wasn't treating it with kid gloves. To be fair, once I'd got used to the joystick I stopped worrying but only time will tell for the reliability.
      What I loved about the original Megamon was how black the blacks were. When I first ran the Mega 15S out of the box, I did notice that the blacks were very slightly 'less black'. However, you'd only really notice it with both monitors side by side and only with the brightness turned too high. My feeling was that on a dark filmset you're unlikely to have the brightness wound right up anyway. Once I'd properly calibrated the Mega 15S I couldn't really spot a difference. If anything, I wondered if the change in panel polarisation was having more of an effect on the blacks?
      I do hope Osee offer firmware upgrades. Once people see manufacturers regularly supporting their products, it really helps build customer confidence in the brand.

    Great review as always! 👍🏻 I’ve got the Mega 15S and the Mega 22S on order. I already own an X-rite i1 Display Pro with USB-A connector. Will I be able to use that to calibrate the 15S or do I need a more modern version of the i1 Pro (as the port is USB-C), or will a USB-A to USB-C adapter suffice? Which i1 Pro did you use to calibrate yours? Thanks for any help.

    • @extrashot
      @extrashot  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I used an old X-rite i1 with a USB-A to USB-C adaptor. It worked perfectly once I found the 90 degree sideways trick. What's confusing me slightly is... I watched another review where they showed calibration in the correct orientation. Maybe it works that way with the newer models? Anyway, you should find the X-rite i1 works fine. 👍

    Are the blacks any better on the new monitor. Thanks for the great video

    • @extrashot

      Hi Barry, The blacks on the original Megamon looked great to me, and after calibration, the blacks on the Mega 15S looked just as good. However, the Mega 15S is now 1500nits and if you push the brightness too high, then I can see very slightly more 'milkiness' in the blacks, (when pixel peeping the black bars top and bottom). To be fair, in a dark studio you wouldn't be running the monitor at full brightness so it's not an issue. Out of the box I was initially worried that the blacks didn't look quite the same on the new model, but thinking about it, I doubt anyone would notice unless they have both monitors running side by side. Turn it down two clicks and they match fine. Take care.

      Thanks for the reply, before changing my monitor I will wait for an affordable one with HDR 1000,000 Contrast ratio. may be a long wait..

    Have you found the blacks to be lifted a lot when looking at the screen off axis? I had a recent demo on the Mega 22s (which should be the same panel as the Mega 15s) and when looking from anywhere other than directly front on, the image washed out really badly. Wondering if the model I looked at had a fault or if their off axis viewing is just bad?

    So I tired the same technic of calibration but it didn’t work for me ? Any leads ?

    • @extrashot
      @extrashot  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You could try gently pressing on the calibrator so it's perfectly light tight on the screen... that helped my reliability with the 90 degree trick.

    The question is, will the OSEE Megamon 15 get the menu upgrade that the 15s has?

    • @extrashot
      @extrashot  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That's a good question... although I'm not sure how much of an upgrade that would be without the joystick / button thing?

    hye.....thanks for this review.......on your vidéo you said the monitor is a little bit brighter.....but on the picture it seems a lot more brighter.....is there any way with the backlight button to have the same brightness like the old version monitor....thank you for your answer

    • @extrashot
      @extrashot  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hi, Oh yes... my comparison shots were with the backlight on both monitors turned up to the max (10). Turning down the Mega 15S to match is not a problem. I had the backlight on the old Megamon at 5 which looks pretty much the same as the Mega 15S at 3. The settings will obviously be different depending on the brightness of your location, and there's definitely something going on with the polarisation of the Mega 15S, but they are very close after calibration.

    aHi thanks for a great review. Are re the blacks better on the 15s. an does it have a 100nit setting for grading (can you set up nits without a probe?

    • @extrashot
      @extrashot  หลายเดือนก่อน

      To be honest, I'm not sure the blacks are better on the 15S... they are about the same as the Megamon, which is very good... but you have to be careful not to wind the brightness too high on the 15S. I can't see a specific 'nit' setting in the menu although you can set the colour space and gamma settings to match the input, including REC709. Hope that helps.

    i bought megamon after your review, but just yesterday, my sdi 1 input is dead, it isn't working but sdi 2 input is. any tip you would recommend?

    • @extrashot
      @extrashot  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Sorry to hear that, I've heard of faulty monitors with dodgy power causing bad earths across the SDI cable and blowing the input circuits in susceptible cameras (mainly Sony)... but not the other way around. I've also heard people say you should always connect all SDI cables before powering on any equipment... but I must admit that's sometimes hard to do when quickly moving to multiple locations.
      However, I've not come across this on a Megamon before. I don't know where you bought the monitor, but is there any included warranty?
      Sorry I can't be more help.

      @@extrashot Yes I was using sony fx6, It happened with me in 2016 with Red Epic camera, it shortcircuited each and everything connected to SDI out, terradek, tv logic monitor, Dtap splitter , cables and Red's output SDI module, So the Red team suggested always power up the camera/devices and then attach sdi cables. But I agree it's very hard for run n gun style shooting with multiple Operators, I purchased this via b&h, mailing them and Osee too that if they can ship me the SDI component, Ill get it replace locally, as I am overseas. This has never happened with my atomos Sumo though, probably something in OSEE ? Thank you

    Which calibration probe did you use? I have the Calibrite Disply Pro but the 15s does not recognize it.

    • @extrashot
      @extrashot  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That's what I used... does it pop up an error message or just not respond at all?

    • @scollins904
      @scollins904 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The probe would blink but the calibration sequence would not start. Didn’t even start flashing any color tones. I don’t think it is communicating well. I even tried turning it on its side like you did but it’s not the polarization issue.
