Good to hear this interview. I am a Catholic priest of the Personal Ordinariate of the Chair of St Peter now serving as chaplain to the Dominican Sisters of Mary Mother of the Eucharist. Brought up Plymouth Brethren and, after seminary and a doctorate in England while teaching in Germany was called into the Episcopal Church (helped found an evangelical Episcopal seminary in Pittsburgh). Eventually, as I was starting to join the Brothers and Sisters of Charity, Domestic expression, I was called into the Catholic Church (along with my wife). The long and short of it is that my wife and I never tire of listening to the stories of reverts and converts. They are always interesting. No two are alike, just as none are quite like us. But all are encouraging, often giving us a pointer or two on sharing our faith with others. Blessings on your work.

Quite a journey. There are Plymouth Brethren in my area (Seem like good honest people) one of whom once said to me that they like the Pope because they like authority, which surprised me. I would be very interested in what they believe verses what is in the Catholic faith.

Exactly why I seem to be hooked. Defending the faith and expressing how we feel about Christ can be hard in this almost purely secular world. The Holy Spirit needs to help me and everyone else, as much as we can accept the gifts He gives us.

The Eucharist is such a great gift!! My catechesis wasn't great and before I understood what the Eucharist truly was, God was using it to draw me closer to Him. I remember dragging my feet and not wanting to go to mass in high school, but after receiving the Eucharist I felt like I was Brand New, full of energy and joy! I couldn't explain it at the time.

Up until today, Christ doesn't have to suffer on the cross for our personal sins if we abstain; as matter of fact, we can mitigate His pain on the cross by taking on other's injustice. Many knowledgeable saints, in actuality, have done just that. Contrary to counter spiritual statements that Jesus Christ is no longer on the cross, he still suffers our digressions.

Eddie and Mr. Bruce thank you so much for this wonderful interview. I was so good to here your story as a convert. I have family that are Church of Christ and they really don't like that I am Catholic but we agree to disagree. I think I am going to send them this video and let them watch it as you did a great job in comparing the two. While there are huge differences I do believe if you can have things that are alike people will listen. I also loved how you talk about wan you leave the Protestant Church and the many activities and the family feeling to come to the Catholic Church and can feel like the opposite. I have been struggling with this feeling for 6 years now. But what convicted me was when you talked about what the Catholic Church the the Protestant church across the street doesn't. That is the Eucharist. I don't need to worry about the people I need to worry about the communion with the Lord through the Eucharist. thank you for those words and for the slap in the face (figuratively) it was needed. Eddie what a great interview and can't want for Tuesday again :)

We are cradle Catholics who stepped away to the UU denomination for a bit, and while the UU services and community were wonderful, the spirituality and the truth were not there. The experience left me longing for more, and put me on the track to studying Catholic history and the journey back home. You cannot partake in the sacraments enough-

Eddy. So far, you have never failed. Always a different story, always the same problem. True statement about most of these stories; either you allow someone to have authority over your life, or you don't. Sometimes i think people accept God's authority (they think), or the Churches authority, (they think). However, truly surrendering everything in your life to "that" authority is difficult. We wonder why the jews had to wander for 40 years in the desert for a 3 week journey. Honestly, it still failed them. Here's why. They did not have the Eucharist. They did not have the Church. Amen brother. Another great story that outs ALL the tools back in the bag to hold everything in our faith without forgetting, or leaving some behind. Your desert analogy strikes hard to the facts.

As you believe Jesus did not keep his word I am amazed you believe in him at all.
However, as your major objection seems to be statues, that is easily dealt with. Read the Bible. See for example:
Exodus 26 Where God commands the making of the Arc of the Covenant.
      See also Exodus 37:6-9.
1 Samuel 5:3-4 And when the Philistines captured the arc and put in at their altar, God made their idol prostrate before it.
1 Samuel 6:19-20 And God killed men who disrespected the Arc
Ezekiel 41:18-20, 25 The new Temple lots of images
Numbers 21:4-9 God commands a bronze serpent be made and put on a pole to heal.
      John 3:14-16
“Just as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of Man be lifted up, that whoever believes in Him should not perish, but may have eternal life. For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish, but have eternal life.”

99% of the argument between Catholics and Protestants come down to authority. Instead of constantly being on the defensive, try turning the table around and ask why they believe in the Bible and their own interpretation of the scriptures over everyone else's. Once you get them to take the blinders off, that's the game changer.

But the truth of the matter is, if it's not whole truth, there is falsehood mixed in. And falsehood comes from the enemy for the purpose of sowing division among the body of Christ.

I think Catholicism tends to conflate justification with sanctification. Faith in The shed blood of Christ is our only basis for salvation. When we repent or metanoia(change of mind) and put our faith and trust in that we are saved. Believers are marked as God’s own and sealed until the day of redemption. The works that follow are the works of sanctification and discipleship. The Gospel is quite simple but man always complicates it.

"They went out from us, but they were not of us; for if they had been of us, they would have continued with us; but they went out that they might be made manifest, that none of them were of us." - 1 John 2:19. NKJV
Expanding on the scripture verse: Those who went out, were never born of the Holy Spirit of God, and if they had been, they wouldn't have gone out away from them. And this is the case with the Church of Christ pastor who became a Catholic. There is little similarity between the Church established by Christ, and the apostate Roman church. Sad but he was religious and never was a follower of Christ, for if he was, then he deserted Christ. The apostle Peter said: "For it would have been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than having known it, to turn from the holy commandment delivered to them." - 2 Peter 2:21 NKJV.
He can give any reason he likes to justify becoming a Catholic, but he can't justify it in God's eyes. And as the description says: "Bruce Sullivan describes his intellectual and emotional pivot into the Catholic church." Nothing spiritual, just intellectual and emotional. Atheism is also intellectual and emotional.

That's not even an argument against the church. Go read your Bible and see who Christ is. See who the disciples are and what they taught, written, and believed... And what about all those who lived and worshipped along side the apostles of Christ? What did they believe? What did they call themselves?
To call yourself Church of Christ is to steal the name of the Church Christ founded. The one true universal church that compiled your Bible, achieved and continues to achieve God's mission to us to find and convert the whole world...
Who created the hospitals, who formalized and created modern education and universities, what religion gave us science and a clearer understanding of the world and universe around us?

If reading the bible gives you authority, then everybody has authority. Do you get a fuzzy feeling inside? Does that give you authority? Because all those religions get a fuzzy feeling inside. The bible has some things to say about that, you know.
