Why a Charismatic Evangelical was Drawn to the Catholic Church
In this week's episode of Catholic ReCon, testimonies from reverts and converts, guest Seraphina Wyman discusses her early years around the gifts of the Spirit, some bad relationships, and discovering a few seeds of Catholicism. In college, she knew something was drawing her heart toward the Church, which led her to say she had never felt this way, she had never felt such peace. Finally she could feel God's spirit and presence. The Lord was warming her heart, literally and figuratively.

Seraphina, your journey home to the Catholic Church is truly inspirational, especially to the many, many youth who have experienced no religious guidance! It's 100% your free will on becoming a Catholic after your personal research, etc. No one forced/preached to you on the journey you embarked on. Your living example will encourage more 'lost sheep' to find their way to the Church. God bless you, and may you enjoy a fulfilling life! From a cradle Catholic of 67 years from Johannesburg, South Africa.❤

The Mass (Instituted in AD 394) Definition: "At every mass, Christ is sacrificed again." Catholicism says: "In the mass, no less than on Calvary, Jesus really offers His life to His Father." But must Jesus be continually sacrificed-or was His one-time death sufficient to pay for sin forever? Christ's one-time sacrifice is sufficient; here's why: 1) Jesus, as He died, said: "It is finished" (John 19:30)-the whole work of salvation, for which He came into the world, was accomplished on the cross. Nothing more can be added to it. The mass insults Christ's death on the cross as being not good enough to pay fully for all of our sins. 2) When Jesus died, the veil in the Jews' Temple as torn from top to bottom (Matthew 27:51), showing that the way into God's presence was open to all believers in Christ's work on the cross. No other sacrifice or priesthood was needed, just Jesus' High Priesthood. 3) The New Covenant states that: "Now where remission of these is, it is no longer necessary to offer sacrifices for sin" (Hebrews 10:18). The Catholic mass contradicts this clear statement. 4) In the book of Hebrews, Christ's sacrifice is said to be accomplished "once" for all-never to be repeated: Hebrews 7:27; Hebrews 9:25, 26, 28; and Hebrews 10: 10, 12, 14, 18. Peter adds that "Christ indeed once suffered for sins" (I Peter 3:18). 20. Penance

Transubstantiation (Instituted in AD 1215) Definition:"The whole substance of the bread and wine is converted into the actual and real, entire body and blood of Christ." Radbertus first suggested this idea in the 9th century. Catholicism supports this by a literal view of Matthew 26:26-29. The bread and wine, however, were only symbols of Christ's body and blood-partaken of as an act of remembrance (Luke 22:19). There is no "conversion" of the bread into literal flesh, nor of the wine into blood. Note: 1) Jesus, after saying "this is My blood" in verse 28, added: "I will not drink at all of this fruit of the vine…" (verse 29)-showing that it was still wine and had not changed into blood. 2) Jesus often described Himself in symbols, yet no one takes these literally: • John 10:7 "I am the door"-Did Jesus mean He was literally wooden? No. • John 14:6 "I am the way"-Did Jesus mean He was literally a road? No. • John 15:5 "I am the vine"-Did Jesus mean He was a literally a vine? No. • John 8:12 "I am the light"-Did Jesus mean He was literally a light? No. • John 6:48 "I am the bread of life"-Did Jesus mean He was literally a loaf of bread? No. • John 6:63 indicates that Jesus was speaking figuratively, spiritually-not literally. 3) The bread and wine did not become Christ's body and blood because God forbids the drinking of blood (Deuteronomy 12:16; Acts 15:20, 29). 4) We take Christ as our Savior once. Passover is to be a recurring memorial and, therefore, has no saving merit of itself. Catholics are commanded to believe in transubstantiation because the teaching was decreed at the Council of Trent (1551) as essential for salvation. The Council pronounced a curse on anyone who would deny it. Paul, on the other hand, pronounced a double curse in Galatians 1:6-9 on anyone who preached a different Gospel-one that denied Christ's death and resurrection as being fully sufficient for salvation. 5) Before Jesus ascended into heaven, He promised to come to us via the Holy Spirit-not through some mysterious "sacrifice of the mass." "[God] shall give you another Comforter, that it may be with you throughout the age: even the Spirit of the truth, which the world cannot receive because it perceives it not, nor knows it; but you know it because it dwells with you, and shall be within you. I will not leave you orphans; I will come to you" (John 14:16-18). How then do we "eat Christ's flesh and drink Christ's blood"? By taking in the words of God when we call on Christ to save us: "The words that I speak to you, they are spirit and they are life" (John 6:63). Peter got the message: "You have the words of eternal life" (verse 68). The scribes, who heard Jesus' words, understood the Hebraic idea of receiving God's words into one's inner being: "Your words were found, and I ate them" (Jeremiah 15:16); "I will put My law in their inward parts" (Jeremiah 31:34). If the transubstantiation doctrine was formulated in the 9th century and is necessary for salvation, what happened to all those living before that time, before transubstantiation was thought of? Did they all go to hell?

I am a cradle Catholic. I went to every church, Buddha, new age etc. I felt empty and saw others have a five minute high and then empty. Protestant churches always ask for money passing the plate over five times Lakewood. Think about it the reason Protestant keep creating churches is so the pastors etc don’t have to work. They are stealing from the poor. Trust me I have a story. When I decided to go back to the Catholic Church. I have Peace. No stress. I am happier.

Your testimony is fantastic!; backed by a thorough, necessary research information and from a Catholic (ignorant) defector to a Catholic convert (with depth) of experience and knowledge. Your testimony is worth sharing with all Catholics, especially the youth who are defecting to Protestant, Charismatic, pentecostal, what, what by superficial and holier than-thou, and other baits. It is also worth sharing in Protestant angles, where superficiality and the Lutherian attitude towards the Catholic Church have grown Protestant denominations to 45,000 worldwide today.😢 You would want to find the Black-American Pastor called Jinno Jennings, who has learnt NO theology , claims to stand on the authority of the Bible alone, and smashes the statute of the Holy Virgin Mother of God in front of his congregation and America/the whole world in protest against the Catholic Church. May God annoint abundantly as you share this truth to help people get back to God and to the right CHURCH. ❤

I came to Christ through Revival Centres Australia , a Pentecostal movement . I married and my husband who wasn’t even Catholic told me ‘I want my children raised as Catholic’ . Neither of us knew what Catholic practices looked like but after the birth of our first baby we had her baptised in the Catholic Church. Then we decided to convert. Both my husband and I being baptised and confirmed and taking our first communion together. I was afraid of the Catholic Church . But then I got to know Mary, Jesus Mother and she took me into her heart. The rest is history but it’s been quite an adventure and I am proud to say I am Catholic.

Young people refusing to go to church is because many things but one it’s the anti catholic propaganda specially in movies and entertainment. Second because the Catholic had stopped evangelizing, you see pastors in the streets but you don’t see monks or priests walking the streets and talking about God, being available. There are some in the inner cities. I saw some in Ireland in the low crimes areas of the cities, I think they were Franciscan but in general we are not there, neither Catholic know enough to be a catholic apologists or try to evangelize and now because of the pope it would be harder to convince people about the only religion.

I would tell Seraphine to study the history of Jesus Church and our first centuries. We were called the Nazarinees or the people who followed the Way. Catholicism is not Bible alone because for us Sola Scritura doesn’t have any sense when we come from one point in time with one event in history and that is so much powerful that everything else. Our firsts ministers, the apostles and the Fathers of the Church and the organization and grow of the Church as the branch of Heaven or the Kingdom on Earth, and the councilors starting with the Jerusalem . Also the martyrs stories and the mysticism and the divine or spiritual world and the miracles and supernatural events. There’s so much to know that one life is not enough but the more important thing is to have a relationship with God ( aAdoration helps a lot with that) and love Him and follow His doctrine.

Being Catholic nowadays is very hard and I would say not for the faintly of heart because we live against society that push and embrace anti Christian and specially anti catholic agendas. The church used to pray for the conversion of the test of the non catholic world and now we have a pope that says that all religions are paths to God or that the miracle of the bread and the fed of 4000 people is really a symbolic passage but in reality people we “ sharing the food they had” so some Catholics are very confused, imagine the ones who want to become Catholics and that it’s why i enjoy so much to watch the testimonies of people who still want to become Catholics regardless the craziness that we are living, embracing sins that until many decades ago were still sin according to our Lord doctrine. I just came back from Rome and the jubilee thing is circus wise and propaganda. I know Bergoglio is not pro choice but he hired some pro abortion people and also Argentina, our country, abortion was illegal until he was elected pope, after that we legalize abortion, and he didn’t do anything neither excommunicate the ones in power, all allegedly “ Catholics “ they are Catholic as Biden is or Newsom or Pelosi are but they are not Catholics, you are not if you don’t live like one .

I am very grateful for your beautiful testimony. I am permanent Deacon and in my young years I was very involved in the Catholic Charismatic movement and i can witness that the Charismatic movement did great things in my life. Welcome home. Thank you for your love for the only true church of Christ.

I was lukewarm until I submitted to the baptism in the Holy Spirit. No looking back.

When asked why did I return to the Catholic Church, it’s because Jesus is a mighty magnet and I am a tiny pin!

:-) What an elegant analogy/metaphor. I can testify that Jesus is a powerful magnet, but sadly in my particular situation, the anxieties and the pride of life are far more powerful. If I'm being honest, my two biggest idols are myself and money. I sometimes reconsider Christ as he is not without his appeal, granted, but the pull of the hope of a good life systematically, and quickly, brings me back.

Have you noticed there is no mention of Jesus being received as Savior and Lord in this “conversion” to Catholicsim. “Something” was drawing me.” No mention of being saved from the power or penalty of sin. This is an example of choosing a religion rather than receiving Salvation in Christ Jesus said you must repent and be BORN AGAIN not become Catholic, Methodist or Lutheran

Brother! Religion it's a Latin word (Religare)which means God's relationship with Men, Isaias 7,14 Behold a virgin should conceive, and bear a son and his name should be called Immanuel = God with Us ❤

@ This Holy God can only have relationship with men who have repented of their sin and trusted in Christ alone to redeem cleanse, sanctify and and save. Nothing unholy or defiled will come into his presence, brother. Many religions claiming to be right. Only one relationship that can redeem us. I am the way the truth and the life. No man cometh unto the Father but by Me. (Jesus) Not Mary, the saints or angels. Joining church will not save us from our sin’s just penaltyYou must be born again

False dichotomy!!! I was telling my friend my story the other day about my big catch of a large mouth Bass and how excited i was. His response was, “so are you no longer the biggest Yankees fan?” 🤦‍♂

@@douggreenway7283 You are certainly welcome to believe and profess whatever you want to believe, there are plenty of differing beliefs in the world today based on the Bible, just pick one. But to glean this from the historically decidedly Catholic Trinitarian book is just plain frivolous… History shows us that Jesus didn't leave us a bible, - the apostles didn't tell us which books belong in the bible, - the church fathers never agreed on the 27 books, and ONLY the 27 books of the NT through the 4th century, - not only did they not agree but their individual lists of would-be NT canons were GROWING during this time. Therefore, if it wasn't the Catholic/Orthodox church, guided by the Holy Spirit, that compiled the 27 books of the NT in the 4th century, and preserved these scriptures by laboriously hand copying them over and over throughout the centuries before the invention of the printing press, the “rule of faith” for many, please tell us who did? And if this church no longer exists today, what good is the text which came forth from her if she couldn't sustain herself? Peace!!!

If you go to church to feel good maybe a good start but that is not Catholic. You go to a church because you know it has the fullness of the truth. Feelings are for protestants. The truth is Catholic. ❤❤

Because end times apostasy is the sign time is coming to a close. Most people / religions are on the wide road to destruction because they don't know the Gospel which is the narrow way to life that few find! !
