The reason I like to cut in first and then roll, even with water based modern paints, is because you blend the brush strokes back in with the roller texture so the transition from brush mark to roll mark/texture is more subtle and smooth. In other words, you achieve a more uniform finish.
thanks I will be doing more. THe only problem I have is I dont do much that I can film anymore. Most of my work is commercial with branding on the buildings. The residential stuff I do is not much but I do have some high net worth customers who I cannot film at their houses. typically very private people. That is why I crack up when guys say you dont know how to do custom work. Ha ha. tell that to my high end high net worth customers with super nice properties that I do on a maintenance basis. No estimate just send me a bill.

Thank you Cut before you roll all the time 😊 If you roll first and cut next; your leaving brush marks. If you cut first, then you can roll over the cut as high/close to that edge as you can get to eliminate that brush mark. Basics 👌 Blessings 👏
Not sure I have ever used a flat brush. Been using a angle brush forever. Good info Mike all true!. Like your little factoid in the beginning about the reason cut before you roll.
More videos..........MORE VIDEOS! I have learned so much from your videos and am hungry for more of them! I know it's hard to film on the job. Maybe if you have the machine or brushes still full of paint at the end of the day just bring them home and do a 5min video say spraying some cardboard or roll of paper (the 3ft stuff) taped to a wall to show too high of pressure or low and then just right. Or brush strokes. Or roller mistakes and so on. I know its difficult to try to keep up with new info but sometimes doing the same info again brings up new info (like the sash vs wall brush...........I've liked the wall brushes more since you've been talking about them......but was just blown away about the length of the bristles on the sash being unequal from tip to heel. That finally made since to me now!)
Sash tool is different to a sash handle brush. Sash tools relate to the shape of the head of the brush being round and were invented to bridge the gap between needing to use an inch or inch and half brush until it was rounded at the top.
Just my opinion, if your putting 2 coats , coverage shouldn’t be a problem , if it’s gonna cover in 1 the new color would have to be close to the old . Brushes a matter of what work for who’s using them.
better if you have a good brush and get the cut to cover. similar color should cover yes. But if you are not using the right brush and or drag the one you have it can cost man hours. Using the right tools and getting the most out of them is super important. can cost you another cut coat. which is the most time consuming.
Depend on situation : Rentals : Roll tight , not a big deal on halos. Nice Residential gig, Always roll so no halos. Imo And them Harbor freight avril ones are great 1 job throw away on rentals .
